Martinez been scoring for fun in development squad and now scores on debut for oxford. He has a natural ability and i feel we should be playing him in the first team squad. thoughts

Ive seen most if not all of the goals he has scored posted on twitter. I know development league is not the greatest level of football but he is still a natural goal scorer. Im not saying he should start but should be on the bench and Brought on when carroll/antonio need to come off. Ayew is pants so to me martinez should be given the chance. Alas he has now gone on loan and already has scored on his debut so we wont see him until next season.

Can't understand the reluctance to play him. If he's good enough who cares how old he is? We've got a huge talent in Reece Oxford, so why is HE not playing??? The Academy is now a complete waste of time, as all we are doing is nurturing players for the benefit of other teams.

Im not saying he is a great player, but look at Stanislas - we offloaded him and he ended up at Bournemouth and has played more than a few notable games for them since they were promoted. At the level the club is at now, or at least aiming to be, he wouldn't of been considered a key player but not a bad option to bring on and have as backup. I'm sure he would of been better than Feghouli and Tore. Oxford is a much better prospect but when is he going to get a chance to become a regular player? Think the risks are too high for a club to bleed youngsters

Patience is a virtue! Sadly that's lost in football nowadays. Martinez will probably get more game time at Oxford plus he will learn the lesser refinements of the game. I think the next six months at Oxford maybe the right call. As for Oxford the man, there is no reason he can't have a lot more 20 minute appearances, even if it's full back, midfield etc.

Id rather him go out on loan and play every week. If he cant do it at league 1 then whats gonna make you think he can do it in the prem. Its a tried and tested system thats worked for years and worked with Rio lamps, and many others.

I recall the clamour for Elliot Lee, and this thread reminds me of it.
It's not a question of his age at all, as I do agree that if you're good enough then you're old enough, but the management/coaching staff work with the players on a daily basis and base their judgement on what they see and I believe that this loan move to Oxford United is for him to prove himself by playing with and against senior pro's in a highly competitive environment, something which young players get less of an opportunity to do since the demise of the old Reserve team system (Football Combination and Central League) which existed for so many years.
Reece Oxford is a player who I might well have given more opportunities to this term, but a reason why I feel he hasn't been used more could be our poor form early in the season and perhaps the rumoured issues behind the scenes and it was felt that it was not an ideal environment to bring an 18 year old into.
Yes, we all like to see young players make their mark, but the timing of bringing them into the senior squad is crucial to their development.
i know that many on here won't agree, but I back the judgement of the management team on this and I think that in the long term, they will be proved right.

But we havent brought any young players through to the first team from the academy for years and many have gone out on loan. Have they all been rubbish and if so what does that say about our scouting over the years and the academy itself which cannot develop these players. Or is it tht managers have been just too scared to give them a chance (forget the Sam debacle because he was just being stupid)

So what young players who were at the Club during Sam Allardyce's time are now established Premier League players? I back his judgement as an experienced, proven professional over that of someone who's watched someone score a few goals on Twitter I'm afraid.
Just a thought on that last point, anyone remember when Redknapp signed Boogers on the strength of a few videos?

Difference is that the goals on twitter were all scored for west ham and included comments frim people at the match.bilic has also said he has been impressed. So this is completely different to the boogers situation. I for one disagree about Allardyce but respect your opinion as the thread was posted to stimulate discussion which it has.

Mate, the spell at Oxford will do him a power of good. Better for him to play regularly in a highly competitive environment than training with the first team, playing with the second string in what is a low key competition and then warming the bench and possibly getting twenty minutes.
Also, who are the "people at the match" who are making these comments? I ask as it would seem to me that they would probably be people in Claret & Blue specs and therefore their views, which they are fully entitled to, are probably somewhat less than objective.
As for the Boogers comparison, he was seen in the videos scoring goals at first team level in a highly competitive league, and that's a big difference from a few snippets on twitter from the U-23s.

And now we are left with calleri and fletcher. Whats makes fletcher better than martinez ? Ive seen both play. Calleri is a waste of space. Fletcher to me is a bit lght weight. But thats just my opinion as a supporter.

We also havent had any prospects as good as these ones for years and whe nthey go out on loan they either bench warm or dont deliver. Josh Cullen is playing 90 mins every week for bradford and has been there best player and gets rave reviews each week. But your saying youd rather them sit in around the first team and not play ?

No not all of them just martinez as he scores goals regularly as his debut for oxford illustrated and im saying he should be brought on regularly.Any way i was just looking for peoples views on the matter and it seems thar most people would prefer all players to go out on loan.

Completely agree mate. Oxford, Burke, Cullen, Martinez, Browne. 5 Top prospects that id be shocked if they didn;t make it at the top level. But there not gonna improve sitting on our bench. If they play 30-40 games for a league 1 or championship team and do the business then you take the next step in there development and try blood them in the 1st team. If there development halts, you try a different method etc... Lamps, Rio, Sturrdge, Wilshere, Noble, Carrick, Glen johnson, kane, etc.. all benefitted from loan spells.
