when you read that what seems to be holding up some transfers we might do is how much the player wants in wages and that the club has a structure in place and does not want to upset other players at the club by paying one or two players a lot more than other squad members get...well in the wide world of work most of us experience I am damn sure people doing the same job as you and me may get paid more for many differing reasons from productivity to ability and so forth so why should football be different....a reg prem player I am certain has a level of wage which most clubs gauge and adhere to but when you get a player who is of a better standard then of course you have to pay more...its like headhunting you don't go looking for a top employee only to say look we know your far better than anyone we have but your pay will not reflect that as we do not wish to upset others who have nowhere near your ability....any player who has a problem well buck your ideas up improve your game and get rewarded otherwise what someone else gets paid is really nobodies business except the club and the player

but unfortunately football is not the normal world and as DITM says every footballer thinks they are the best so expect parity at the very least....and of course when they are criticised for wanting so much to lets face it kick a ball around a field! the old line comes out well its a short career you have to make money incase of an injury ending that career...at the lower end of the football spectrum that would be true but players even say on the basic 35grand a week earn more in one season than any of us are ever likely to see in our lifetime so they do need a reality check sometimes.

Interesting post that hammer girl, the basic principle of what you say is IMO correct. The trouble is football writes its own rules that can't be fitted into most jobs. A lot of it is just made up as they go along. All rules go out of the window when greed raises its ugly head and football is one of the most greed driven industries in the world. Good post tho.

But football is mostly all about Greed, from a very young age a lot of these players are paid a fortune, have never known what its like to graft in the real world so it goes to their heads...for instance hernandez reportedly wants 140 mill a week,if we sign him, expect a few players at westham to throw their toys out & to want parity with him, just the way it is i suppose!!

The issue is, other players wil lwant wage increases. Another issue is our annual wage bill cant go over a certain limit, which is why we seem to be trying to offload players first. Feghouli is apparently on 80k a week!

he was a free transfer so because of know fee the wages higher than the norm...bang average with know real stomach for a fight...we need to learn lessons on how we pay players of dubious ability...Snodgrass is another one...and yet we dither over paying hernandez the money he is clearly worth.

We have to sign him as he is a proven goalscorer FACT! Surely we could pay him a big signing on fee and £100k per week to stop the greedy underperforming players knocking on the managers door? Pure greed and stupidity of any player doing that when they earn what they do theses days!

I agree with you antkb we pay 90 grand a week to Carroll for sitting on his arse for half the season .Hernandez is a real live wire with another four years in him .worth every penny

When we read all these bullsh1t headlines about the problems with his wage demands of £140k per week, as he's a proven quantity and variables exist in all market places so why is it a problem?

seems to have caught up with us because now they are saying Chelsea are interested in him!! squad filler for them first team player for us that's his choice fair enough but if its over a measly twenty grand a week we miss out on him to them well shame on us shame indeed

Some good points here. I believe if a player is that good and makes a difference he should be rewarded accordingly. For example. Hernandez wants £140k a week. We should offer the ceiling level then say right score x amount of goals per month and we will make your money up? As for defenders and keepers keep x amount of clean sheets and you will be rewarded. I'm sure they are on some sort of bonus but a larger carrot may produce better returns?

As everyone has said: proven goal scorer. Isn't that exactly what we need? We gave up on Giroud (another proven goal scorer) and we're now currently looking at a winger and some unproven foreigners. Really wish Sugo would pull their finger out and get something done.
