Chelsea: Courtois, Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta, Kante, Matic, Willian, Oscar, Hazard, Costa.
Subs: Begovic, Fabregas, Pedro, Loftus-Cheek, Moses, Batshuayi, Aina.
West Ham: Adrian, Antonio, Reid, Collins, Masuaku, Kouyate, Nordtveit, Noble, Ayew, Carroll, Valencia.
Subs: Randolph, Obiang, Tore, Ogbonna, Byram, Payet, Oxford.
Slaven Billic had a fairly unique situation to deal with in that he is virtually obligated to play new £20 Million plus record signing from Swansea Andre Ayew, but still accommodating those players who have served him well in the past. Dimitri Payet was still a little off match sharpness, so perhaps Billic decided to start with Ayew and then replace him by around the 60th minute of what will be a very hard fought match against Conte's Chelsea. - Ed

Looks like a flat back four (?)...Arthur getting his debut at left back.
Valencia starting, as we expected an attacking line up....Would love Enner to score and sort his confidence out, good luck lads!

Poor start, we didn't deserve anything tonight.
Distribution was shocking and Chelsea looked a yard or two quicker - Mistakes cost us dearly but no complaints we were second best all over the park.

Tough loss, despite being away to Chelsea. Could have/should have secured a draw. Neither team looked ready for the start of the Premier League -- West Ham quite a ways off where they were this time last season. The Ayew injury -- what can I say, the curse strikes again. Valencia poor and should sit. Antonio needs to be forward. Tough fixture list to start the season, so WHUFC better get this sorted quickly. There is no evidence yet that we have moved upwards from last season. Time will tell; COME ON YOU IRONS.

That was far from a full strength side Bilic put out,but even so it was a poor showing.Persisting in playing Antonio at RB shows Bilic is determined in his ideas, but I just hope this isn't all going to backfire. The player himself has recently come out in the media stating that he wants to realise his potential as an attacking winger, tonights subbing him after 52mins couldn't have done a lot for his confidence, playing at RB.A good man-managing coach respects the view of his players, and takes them into consideration ,failure to do that will erode away the respect for him.I just hope Bilic relents and doesn't dig his heels in on this ,because it will fester .Cannot believe Westham had all their main players out Payet(sub) ,Lanzini,Fegouli,Cresswell,Calleri,Sakho and now Ayew out with injury to add to the frustration. But I know Bilic is a good coach,he has proved that at all the clubs he has managed,he will rise to the challenge,he knows how to motivate ,he reads the game well, and you can bet he won't be happy with tonights performance. We will see a different side next game.

I think Ants reaction to giving away the pen and when he was taken off said it all ,talk about not valuing a player ,the second highes goal scorer last seasonand now forced to play rb ,i hope Slav isnt goin to become a stubborn fuker ,he could start to loose a lot of friends

Missed the game tonight, doesnt sound like a good showing! Hope Antonio doesnt get illusioned as he more than proved himself last season and is a machine when playing in a forward role. I just cant see why Bilic plays him at RB... how was Mousauka sp??

Thought he did well and even rescued the Hammers from a Costa breakaway in the first half. But this time round he wins the ball and tries to be too pretty near the box, loses it and then gives away the penalty. But what is he thinking when he boots the ball away to receive that unnecessary yellow card? Definitely Costa should have been sent off for that late tackle on Adrian. This referee has no problem dishing out red cards to West Ham, but that let off is too biased. All in all a poor and disappointing opener. Still the silver lining is that even with such a poor display we should have got a point as the guy who should have been sent off gets to stay on and score. Earlier Kante should have received a second yellow for his tackle on Payet.

Wonder what the lineup will be on Thursday. Bilic is bound to bring in more youngsters for the Europa Cup game. Guess Payet will still be on the bench. Hopefully, this fixture will not be surrendered so cheaply like the last season.

not so much the result but the performance, cant understand Ant still at RB and why is the lightweight Valencia first choice, he never keep the ball longer than 2 sec and contributes very little. thought the defence was pretty good first half, we lost it in midfield.

Totally agree enough is enough asking him to play at Full Back he is totally wasted there he is a Proven Attacking Goal Scorer in my book .. If Slaven persists in playing Antonio at Full Back we might as well Sell him and use the Money to Buy a decent Full Back .. Personally I would keep Antonio who I rate very highly and just Buy another Full Back !

Yes I am also not very happy with Valencia these days .. Since his bad injury he has not really been the same player he was before it .. I also think Carroll is only any good to us if we use him has just an impact type player for around the last 20/30 minutes of a game .. He is Excellent in the Air but he is just way too Slow and Clumsy for my liking he was probably the Slowest Player on the Pitch against Chelsea "imo" he is simply just not good enough to be starting a game !

I think your wrong there Steve ,firstly he covered more ground than anyone last night ,secondly you cant seriously expect the one up front system to reap goals ,its not fair on him running around like a headless chichen you've got to get more men forward and into the area otherwise whatts the point ,the big mistake was giving Costa the room not only to shoot but giving hin planning permission to do so ,Collins and Ried (i think) continued to track the flight of the ball instead of sticking to him like glue ,there wasn't anyone within five yards of him

Yes your right having thought a bit more about last night's game .. Albeit the Antonio playing at Full Back farce *isses me off as much as anything else currently and the fact that Costa should have been sent off before he scored of course !

Seeing the highlights, wasn't that challenge what they call a 'leg-breaker'?? How can Costa, Feilaini etc. get away with this week in week out

Somewhere I think I read that Ogbona can Play Full back when we first signed him. Did you see the distraught look on Antonio's face when he came off. Every body in the Club Knows that He's not a right back Apart from Slaven, He's told Bilic he aint a full back so Think its about time he played some body who does want the job, and put Antonio back on the wing where he belongs And perhaps Slaven can stop being so Frikin Stubborn, only I can see if he keeps this tatic up he's gonna leave, this club in this transfer window. Last season he was fantastic and we were all saying what a fantastic buy for 7 million Micheal is a talented winger and NOT a full back then perhaps you will see Andy Carrol get more service. Dont know if anybody saw but Winston Reed got a bad knock right at the end of the match hope this dont cause more trouble at the back

Winston Reid getting injured would be a blessing. Shouldve been sold over tonks. Hasnt had a good game since City away last season. Collins, Ogbonna need to start

not wishing an injury on Winston, but he's our third best and is often caught out and commits silly fouls. I agree with you about tonks too. JT was a hammer through and through, and one tough bloke -- the number of times he took big hits and kept on playing I can't count. But the big thing is that he was more versatile than Winston, and we still need that with a squad that's not quite big enough.

I do hope he's not goin to get the hump and keep playing Ants at rb ,its the one fault ive found in him ,if he cant see that Ants is a winger and not a rb then he'll be off ,mark my words ,oh and one more thing did anyone notice he was as nervous as fuk in the tunnel, chewing his nails off ,poor sod must think his world has fallen apart
