FA To Review Manuel Lanzini 'Dive' AND Stoke City Manager

The FA review panel will sit today at Lancaster Gate in order to decide whether Hammers' talisman Manuel Lanzini was guilty of 'simulation in order to gain a pernicious advantage by deceiving the match officials'. That's quite a mouth full, but no where near the mouth full that beleaguered Stoke City boss Mark 'Sparky' Hughes gave to his ex-striker turned pantomime villain Marco 'Elbows' Arnoutovic. Viewers did not need to be lip reading experts to decipher what Mark Hughes said to Arnoutovic as he was leaving the field, the home crowd were incensed by the player they once worshipped's attitude during the match, especially when he gave the crossed Irons sign and a bit of shirt chest pumping. Perhaps the fans might want to look at themselves in the cold light of day, it is not only Stoke City fans but fans in general that give former players 'pelters' on their return, the amount of anger usually being dictated by how acrimonious the departure was. The FA are to investigate the crowd situation and Hughes' actions separately.

Modern day footballers, with a few exceptions, are highly paid sporting mercenaries who have a relatively short shelf life and when a team wants rid of them they are expected to depart without too much of a fuss, but when the situation is reversed fans get their collective 'hump', however this invariably leads to the returning 'sinner' playing out of their skin against their former club. The more stick the home fans give the better the visiting former player performs, West Ham fans know all about this having been on the receiving end of Frank Lampard's 'revenge' on numerous occasions in the past, Lampard came back to haunt those who taunted him about his weight, his nepotistic relationship with Harry Redknapp and just about any other thing they could blame him for, completely forgetting that Chelsea paid top dollar for him and that it was only when he left the Boleyn that his career really took off!

Angry and disgruntled fans are one thing, however highly paid football managers are a different breed who seem to think that they are above sanction, simply put if a player on the field tells the Referee or one of their support staff to F**K off or call them a F**cker they will more than likely be sent off and could face additional punishment for 'bringing the game into disrepute'. Mark Hughes' was more guilty of 'bringing the game into disrepute' by his actions that were plain to see by millions of TV viewers than 'Manu' Lanzini was of 'diving', slow motion will be required to come to a conclusion whereas there is no defence for Hughes' actions which provoked further action by an already angry crowd culminating in an item being thrown from the terraces. Although it was only a scarf that was thrown at Arnoutovic, it is a fact that any item thrown from the crowd at an opposition player is an offence and liable to be sanctioned by the authorities.

At the end of the day the FA will either take no action or they will take action about the alleged 'dive' but also against Stoke City for failing to control their crowd and also their members of staff! Given the circumstances it would seem that a 'score draw' decision would be the most appropriate on this occasion, but if they do ban Lanzini it will make him unavailable for the 'Elk Cup' quarter final against Arsenal on Tuesday evening and Saturday's home game against Newcastle.
On the other hand Hughes could be banned from the touch line and his club fined for failing to control their crowd.

Its West Ham, we never get fair treatment from the FA. However, a little 2 game rest will give Lanzini a chance to recharge the batteries.

But the refs view was unobstructed he was 10/15 yards away at best looking straight at it and he gave a penalty...so what are the F.A. going to do about him? if you can CON the official that easily then he has no place in the professional game..i hope we dont appeal the cup games a chance to see what we have as back up and we should have enough to beat newcastle so take the medicine and move on....as for hughes he's just shown what a fool he is with his comments....unprofessional would be putting it mildly...still he aint our problem and i hope he keeps his job because he will be taking stoke down then.

The club has until 6pm Tuesday to appeal whether they do or not remains to be seen, personally I would be tempted to play Ayew in midfield in a central role.

Diving is cheating whether in or out the box,so why didn't delph get a ban,for coning the ref and rice, that lead to Ci££y equalising, a goal that cost us from getting a draw.

Because the commentators wax lyrical about everything they do. Even a simple tap in gets the mic guy blowing his load over his co-commentator!! The FA support this and do not want to see the team that is carving up the league be seen to be anything other than perfect! Double standards have been about for donkey's years, in the Prem since it's inception and nothing will ever change as long as the money keeps rolling in!

looked like a dive by leaning into the defenders leg before going to ground and getting a pen...ref once again had an unobstructed view and you could call this a dive but of course its bfs side and rooneys so of course nothing made of it and jamie carragher just saying nope and quickly move on.

The game has changed since all the overseas players started playing in the Premier League.Diving in Spain Germany and Italy was part of the game.We didn't see it in this country but nowadays the refs are so poor that players can get away with it and the top clubs are the biggest offenders for example Raheem Sterling any gust of wind and he falls over in the penalty area.

Neither alli or Kane should get away with their tackles v city I'd say the same if it was our players . Disgusting tackles. Looked deliberate to me.

they will say the ref dealt with it on the day and by booking the players there is nothing they can do.....what utter rubbish....you see the foul and think thats a red only for the commentator and pundit to say it looked worse than it was then you see the replay(in both the kane and ali tackles)and they kind of try and justify it by saying something along the lines of "well it looks worse in slow motion but at normal speed its not that bad" yet you so much as sneeze in the direction of one of those players and MOTD/SSN will crucify the player for doing it.

I've always hated diving and I know its always been in the game at least since the early 70's when I was a little lad. For one moment over 19 years ago I dropped my guard on my hate of diving when Michael Owen cheated the Argies in the 98 World Cup. The stakes were high so I was happy with that at the time I was a convert. After the dust had settled and getting back to week in week out league football I changed my mind back again. I just want to see a true and honest game with an equally true and honest result. It's sad that one of ours has dived but inevitable with the game as it is. I just hope the FA make it true and honest by treating all clubs and players the same and I hope it works at getting the game how I want it.

After the Hand of God goal, you could have wanted payback. True sportsmanship is wanting fair play no matter what happened in the past.
