The Sun Are At It Again!

Printing false or spurious information seems to be the bye word for those working at News International's Sun newspaper, what initially looked like lazy journalism is actually a rather unpleasant occurrence of 'media led' player destabilisation. The Sun's report claims 17 year old Reece Oxford, Slaven Billic's favourite young player, wants £40,000 per week in wages and a 'signing on' fee of £1 Million! Wait a minute, a 'signing on' fee for a player who is already signed up? Confused, you should be, as is Oxford himself. The young Hammer of the Year was quick to respond on social media that the Sun's claims were 'fake', this was the second time in as many days that the Lad has felt compelled to deny false accusations regarding his contract at West Ham United. Firstly West Ham are unable to extend Reece's contract because of the FA ruling over the length of contract that an under 18 player is allowed to sign up for, secondly Oxford is a Hammer's 'jewel in the crown', rightly compared to a young Rio Ferdinand before his departure to Leeds, and eventually Manchester United. There is no way the club would sanction the sale of Reece Oxford, and the figure of £10 Million that was plucked out of the air by those bastions of truth at the Sun is rendered irrelevant by the fact that West Ham United are no longer a selling club, this irks those who don't like to see their croneyism with the big clubs threatened by the 'lesser clubs', Leicester City brke down the door, and now a host of other clubs including West Ham are rushing through the gap, fuelled by the insane TV rights money soon to be available. Further more there is a suspicion that there is a bit of a hidden agenda with regards to West Ham, due to the anchor tenant Olympic Stadium deal, so expect a lot more hot air in the ensuing weeks.
Obviously it would be naive to ignore the fact that major clubs will be 'sniffing around' Oxford, the youngsters talent is widely known, but Slaven Billic is keen to protect his player from unnecassary overhyping, and if anyone can Slaven can. Oxford comes across as an intelligent and balanced young man, not the sort of person swayed by bright lights and big words, he is confident enough about his own ability to know that he will make the step up to the match day team sooner rather than later, but you won't read about it in the Sun first. - Ed

Nev I don't see what the significance of it being in the sun is? You could probably say the same about every tabloid paper and probably every tin pot website. Agenda against West Ham? Possibly as we reflect on the trouble at liverpool game last night has almost gone unreported! And the attack from pool fans on the team bus last round wasn't reported either, whereas our trouble was splashed every where. I have watched bbc news and there was no mention of the trouble. So in short, why pick out the sun? To single out one source when in all reality you can believe nothing from any of them not even the bbc, seems like Dare I say it an agenda? I think we all probably take what the sun says with a pinch of salt, football or otherwise so no surprise there, but to blame the sun when they are all at it allows people to become complacent with their media if they are not reading the sun. Outside of football it's a dangerous thing to do, far more than the sun as everyone jumps on that easy bandwagon while media just as bad peddle crap that gets unnoticed. (Bbc)

You have to take it as nothing more than filling papers or time, football news has become the everything.

Maybe suing the media could put an end to this crap? The player is denying it, the club is denying it yet these clowns publish their tripe and call it news.

with a grain of salt too! Possibly he'll go, but not before another, better defender is brought in. I don't think Oxford is ready for a full season just yet, not the way he got skinned by Lukaku. And Tomkins won't go for £7M (the reported amount) either -- it would be more like £10M.

Yeah that line on the 7mill was minimum for a first team player, not the asking price, so don't come looking for a cheap buy unless you want JOB. I suspect Tomkins will go. Reid, Ogbonna are first choice pairing but I suspect Reidy's place may be under threat if Slav targets another CB. With Ginger Pele as solid back up, Tomkins could find his playing time limited and may want to test the waters elsewhere.

7 mill must admit I thought it should be 10 mill. Gota hunch we will look for another centre back so Tonka could be surplus to requirements I think Collins is probably occupying a space till Oxford is ready
