i seem to have stirred up the proverbial hornets nest with a couple of comments regarding creative players, and that west ham should look abroad for these type of players, of all the teams in the premiership can anyone name an english player as the most creative player at their club? rooney better than ronaldo? i think not, gerrard better than torres? anyone?

I was hoping Bentley might do ok tonight after his excellent game on Saturday but he failed to get involved too much, mind could have done in getting him on earlier.

A quick run through of all the teams in the Premiership and I find I can only think of possibly 2 English flair players that excite me aka the DiCanio, Best or Rodney Marsh and that would be Walcott and to a lesser degree Lennon, who is a bit inconsistant. Mention of Ronaldo is a bit off the mark, as talent like that comes once in a blue moon. I think you have a fair and valid point, but one only has to go down the local parks and watch todays young schools teams or local football leagues to see that all natural flair and talent is stamped out for the good of the team effort. Formations, tactics, fitness and yes even cheating take precedence over good basic ball skills of which one should be the ability to kick with both feet. Probably we would have to go abroad to get the skills from say, the poorer countries where kids play with rolled up rubbish bags or with punctured blubber on beaches but I've no doubt that the skill would be drummed out in favour of safety first. I leave you with a link to a player with audacious skill who I would love to see try that at Upton Park wearing the Claret and Blue colours. Watch what happens when he tries the skill out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYlqql38XkY

I disagree completely. The kids I see are doing step overs all over the pitch. Loads of the lazy buggers have knackered lungs because of smoking and can't be arsed to run anyway, but the skill levels are much higher than when I was a kid. They see Rooney and Ronaldo do their tricks and copy them. A huge problem is the selfishness they show. Every player not in possession is yelling for the ball, irrespective of whether he is in a position to receive a pass. They do not play with their heads up and have a very poor awareness of the whole pitch. a lot of this is probably down to learning their football through TV - where they only see a narrow window of the pitch at any given time. They also play on full size pitches far too early. There is too much space so they do not learn how to move to make space.

You're right - my son trains with Ipswich Town's under 10's and i have to say that he doesn't learn any more playing for them than he does his saturday side - if anything, the saturday side has a better standard of coaching but the whole coaching process in this country seems to be the 'get your foot through it' philosophy...there are quite a few young kids there who are very comfortable running with the ball but you can guarantee that will be beaten out of them - Don Howe and Howard Wilkinson have a lot to answer for if you ask me...

Noble. Can't think of anybody else in a Curbishley team that qualifies as creative!

Parker maybe? O.k, he runs around in circles when he has the ball, but I`ve a feeling he`ll become one of our most creative players

Bentley - Blackburns most creative player. Young is a pretty instrumental to Villa too.
