Blackburn 0 - 1 West Ham United

A dull match against Blackburn at Ewood Park sprang into life in the second half after Dean Ashton, who had replaced Mathew Etherington at the start of the second half, fired home the rebound of a George McCartney cross to seal the points and earn Hammers their fourth Premiership away victory of the season. Mark Hughes is no mug and has been touted as a candidate for England manager, he usually sends out a well organised and resourceful team, but they must have had an off day, even a second half cameo appearance by 'Lily' Savage failed to lift them! The home side did exert some early pressure and they were more comfortable on the ball, but with the exception of a shot from Dunne that grazed the bar and a pile driver from Tugay that veered away from goal when it seemed to have beaten Robert Green, Blackburn didn't really pose too much of a threat to a resilient Hammers defence and a combative midfield ably marshalled by Scotty Parker. After the re-start Dean Ashton scored his goal and Rovers keeper Brad Friedel kept out a Luis Boa-Morte strike to keep his side in the game, but Roque Santa Cruz spurned two great chances by heading wide and blazing high over the bar at the other end. Deano should have sealed it late on only to sidefoot high and Luis Boa-Morte fired over when he could have put the game to bed but Hammers held on, despite a late Blackburn rally which saw Tugay have another rasping shot that was well saved by Rob Green. Lucas Neill was booed every time he touched the ball but walked off with his head held high, there is no better way to stuff the words down supporters throats than to leave with a victory. The whole of the defence impressed, with Danny Gabbidon returning to form and Mathew Upson steadily looking the business, and of course George McCartney was imperious. Carlton Cole ran himself ragged as usual and Luis Boa Morte did put the Rovers defence under a lot off pressure. All in all an unexpected and welcome win, the joy of which will be tempered by a quick glance at the fixture table between now and the 3rd of January 2008! - Ed MATCH STATS: Possession Blackburn 52% West Ham 48% Teams: Blackburn * 01 Friedel * 07 Emerton * 04 Samba * 02 Ooijer (yellow card) * 03 Warnock * 19 Dunn (70 Reid ) * 15 Mokoena (45 Savage ) * 05 Kerimoglu * 12 Pedersen (76 Roberts ) * 09 Santa Cruz * 10 McCarthy Substitutes * 32 Brown, * 08 Savage, * 14 Reid, * 27 Derbyshire, * 30 Roberts West Ham * 01 Green * 02 Neill * 04 Gabbidon * 06 Upson * 03 McCartney * 15 Solano (76 Spector ) * 08 Parker * 17 Mullins * 11 Etherington (45 Ashton ) * 12 Cole (yellow card) (88 Camara ) * 34 Boa Morte Substitutes * 21 Wright,(not used) * 09 Ashton, * 16 Noble, (not used) * 18 Spector, * 33 Camara Ref: Alan Wiley Att: 20870

slavan bilic will be our

slavan bilic will be our next manager as paolo is probably a little too headstrong!! and have to apologise but am i the only person on this site that thinks carlton cole and luis boa morte are absolutely dreadful, coles first touch is so bad his next is always a header! and as for boa morte it seem everytime we are on the offence as soon as he gets the ball we have to defend a second later, please tell me we got a striker (thats not injury prone) lined up for the jan transfer window as bellamy looks like he gonna be out for a while yet

i think its a shame we could

i think its a shame we could lose bellamy for a while cause he needs another operation and if thats the case we could do with another striker soemone who has pace cause we can't just rely on 3 big strikers who have no pace and expect long balls to be played to them all the time, the one striker i'd like curbishley to buy is that vagner love from cska moscow they r out the champions league so its worth putting a bid him 4 him

Only site to consistently

Only site to consistently show every West Ham match live is on a website called LOFOOTY. http://www.conami.net/index.php You can pay per day (£2.50 to £3.50) or for 30 days (£10). The game v Everton is scheduled. Sometimes have to wait for the match day to subscribe. The viewing quality is nearly as good as watching it on TV. It often comes via Greek and Italian T.V. so you sometimes have to put up with foreign chat/adverts etc.It only takes a few minutes to download the gear to watch it.Unfortunately next Saturday's match v the Toffees will be the first time this season that a Hammers match isn't on the schedule.

Looking at the squad against

Looking at the squad against Blackburn, I noticed that Freddy was not included. Surely he cannot have picked up another injury, especially after his recent poor performance coming off the bench. Although I was excited when he arrived I am starting to think that he is a bit of a white elephant. From where I stand it appears that we are paying him big bucks to keep himself fit so as he can play for his country. I hope that he proves me wrong and shows his class. COYI...

Just saw the NRC and Anton

Just saw the NRC and Anton gang show. What a pair of tits. It got me thinking though, what a tragedy with Anton. I remember watching him in the Play Off final against Preston and being amazed at how calm such a young fella was in one of the biggest games in the clubs history. Having seen Rio mature next to Super Slav as a youngster I actually saw things in Anton that made me think he would go on to actually be the better player and I genuinely believed they would play for England together. If he knuckled down and went for it it still isn't too late but going awol last season and telling porkies just highlighted that he's not taking his career as seriously as he should. We are looking solid at the back now and I applaud that but Anton really has something a bit special for a centre half and if there was ever an example of too much dough too young this is it surely. I personally would be sad to see him go but he seems to have gone as far as he can with us. I hope I'm wrong though.

According to Curbs, Anton is

According to Curbs, Anton is very high in his thoughts and there is no way he will let him go. Remember, Anton is very young still (22) and potentially he can play for England with Rio. If he is fit, I prefer him to Gabbidon as he is stronger in the air and more accurate with his passing.

A sad indictment on modern day society, I blame the parents !!!!!!!!!

Now THAT says it all! Curbs

Now THAT says it all! Curbs ol' son, January's a comin', so do the right thing and offload some more dead wood. By the way anybody else noticed how solid the defence is without ol' Bling Crosby!

Bad Day for Blackburn?

Bad Day for Blackburn? I share everyone's frustration at the press reports that say "Blackburn had a bad day" (or "Derby had a bad day" or "Tottenham had a bad day") and so on. Yeah, right. I saw the replay of the match on Fox this morning, and have to say that Hammers were far and away the better team, and it was due to Hammers' composure, pressure, strong defence and use of width that we won it. Have to say that Cole was a little bit lucky not to be sent off; don't think his challenge on Friedl was intentional, but you can see the studs going into his groin, and often enough that's gonna get you a (second) yellow. But Cole was great in the match, and you can get an idea of just how high his work rate is by comparing him to Camara, who admittedly needs match time, but who couldn't win possession the way Cole did. Other observations from the replay: people say Roque Santa Cruz missed a sitter. True, he did great work to bring the little flick with him, but I have to say Green played him perfectly, forcing him to go high with the shot and cutting down the percentage a lot. It's just one of those little things about Robert Green that won't get noticed because he does so many other fantastic BIG things (like the save against Tugay!!!!). On the replay, Upson's header out (near the post) doesn't look as dangerous as it did at match time; I don't think it was really close to an own goal, and it got the ball out of play. Also, Deano's side-footer over the bar had to be hurried due to Emerton (?) arriving fast. On another occasion, Deano's soft flick from the corner to LBM almost resulted in a goal, and LBM's shot was hard and on target, Friedl making a good save. And finally, when was the last time you saw Hammers show such composure in the last five minutes of a match -- controlling possession, passing well, all the things you should expect but didn't dare expect! All in all: A truly SUPERIOR West Ham side all the way around. But that said, I don't mind the press saying "x had a bad day against West Ham"; Let 'em all think that while we go on beating them. Everton, by the way, does NOT have a terrific away record. So just watch out for Cahill lurking around the box and I think we'll be singing on Thursday. Come on you BEAUTIFUL Irons.

i think since parker has

i think since parker has come back in the team is more stable and his last two games i have him as man of match

another professionaly

another professionaly display from our defense. We appeared to be cutting it fine at times, but at least the rest of the team know they have a solid back 5 to play in front of. I have to say that Upson has really won me over.
we beat blackburn at their own game. a well needed and well deserved 3 points.

Great comments, excellent

Great comments, excellent result and no negatives. That's a proper away performance and you grind out results against teams like that. Remember we got beaten 3-2 there in a humdinger a couple of years back? I'll take this type of performance any day and when we get one or two more back the flair will improve as will the number of chances we can create. Parker showed the type of form we saw at Charlton and will sharpen up more. Curbs needs to work out how he and Noble can play together though. Defence good again - the opo has to create some chances in 90 mins and Rob Green was great. Upson showed some good glimpses bringing the ball out of defence with good distribution and even LBM seemed a bit more positive than usual. Great for Deano - he must start against Everton. Also must go 442 for that. They're set up similar to Blackburn so if we squeeze them and defend as a team I see a similar result, perhaps one more goal in us too. All nice to see. COYI

great game, great game plan

great game, great game plan and a great whole team performance. people our on here worried about deano and why he never celebrtaed. thats is easy. he is not happy at being on the bench and its the first time in his career this has happened. once he is in the starting 11 again he will be fine. before the chelsea game i saw an interview with him saying that he would be pissed off if he was not starting because thats all he wants to do. now he knows he ahs to play well every week to get his place back and i for one thinks he will start on wednesday night

Thanx Gentlemen! COYI!!!!!!!!

Thanx Gentlemen! COYI!!!!!!!!

It really is getting very

It really is getting very boring hearing that every team we beat had an off day!!! We played superbly yesterday for the away team and could have had 2 or 3 more goals.Blackburn are no mugs and don't lose many, that was only their 4th defeat of the season. Only Pompey and Chavski and Liverpool have won more away games than us. I have really good feelings about our team and I think that we will win something this season, possibly the Carling Cup and I fancy us to be back in Europe.

We'll I'm one 'appy 'ammer

We'll I'm one 'appy 'ammer t'day peeps! The sun is shining over the atlantic horizon, there isn't a cloud in sight, it's 22° already and the best bit is WE DID THE BIZ AGAINST A VERY TOUGH TEAM TO BEAT! And what an entertaining match it was as well! I thought though that the first half wasn't such a drab affair as a lot of people seem to have posted. On the contrary, I thought both teams came out shooting from the hip and set their stalls out early doors and were both up fer it. As for Blackburn havin' a bad day - Bollox. We closed 'em down, we worked, we harassed, we jockeyed, and we got in amongst 'em early. We made 'em look bad - end of! And, we looked what we were . . . . fkn good! So stand up and take notice ev'ry one. West Ham are comin' to town or even worse: You've gotta come to our gaff!!!! Get those trophy cabinets spring cleaned Doris 'cos pretty soon they're gonna be bulging and bursting at the seams!!!! Curbs don't need the England job 'cos 'e's got the best job in the world anyway.

Yet again I struggle to

Yet again I struggle to think of a Monday morning moan. I think Spuds winning is the best that I can come up with. On current form, they may aviod the drop after all (shame). On the Hammers front, I am fed up with hearing that we did well because the other team were out of sorts. When will we get some credit for our efforts? I am probably a bit over sensitive to it, but it is really winding me up. Although some of our players probably had more in their lockers yesterday, it was a strong team performance over 90 (+ 4 minutes!), so overall lots to be pleased about. I hope Deano is just p1ssed about his slow return, as I know there were a few links to Manue during the summer. If if did go, Fergie must die. COYI......

Couldn't agree more MB!

Couldn't agree more MB! Fergie has to die anyway, but seriously, what do Manure want with Ashton. Plus the board won't sell 'im! Can you imagine the Eggman honestly letting those manx twats tap-up or take a player that we really own!!!!!

He was probably a bit miffed

He was probably a bit miffed about starting the game on the bench. Great all round performance by the Hammers tho. Defence looked really strong apart from Neill giving the ball away too often. Parker looked the biz and Curbs may have pulled a master stroke in getting him on board. Ethers rightly made way for Ashton and LBM switching to the left worked for me. Credit where credit is due, players and manager got it just right.

Well worth waking up at

Well worth waking up at three in the morning to watch the game. We matched them and bettered them in almost all departments. Yeah, a few sloppy passes but overall everyone played their socks off. Defence was solid. Upson still needs to practice heading the ball out of the box before strikers are on to him though. Thought Lucas held up well with all the jibes. Nobby was playing some sublime football, Scottie Parker was going for everything and winning almost everything and well, DEANO. What a GEEZAH............ all those are still not sold on Curbs after the past 2 weeks have my sympathy. He has brought this squad together playing in unison and everyone seems to be enjoying being out there. Sign of the times I reckon. You give it until the end of the week with the 2 Everton games coming up and I'm sure you'll agree he has come a long way baby. Bring on the toffees. COYI.

ime concerned why ashton

ime concerned why ashton didnt celebrate. seems a bit strange if you ask me. hope nothings up ie transfer window ect ????

Sussex, I have heard it all

Sussex, I have heard it all this year, from the commentators and even from posters on here. "We were lucky, we played this team when they had an off day", bla bla bla. I have a feeling teams are going to have plenty of off days against us this year. Is it just me or do we seem to be getting better and better. Bring on the full squad and lets get into Europe.

Great result today and

Great result today and worked for very hard. I thought Gabbidon was outstanding, closely followed by Scott Parker and Robert Green. Ashton looked a lot sharper this week - maybe he will start on Wednesday when we will be without Solano who is cup-tied. Will Mark Noble get a game too?

Tell you what, watching the

Tell you what, watching the boys on TV is so much more stressful than being there. Those last 10 minutes were murder. Brilliant performance. Hughes, the pundits and Nev talk about Rovers having an "off day" - I'd say it was an enforced off day as we didn't let them play just like we didn't let Chelski last week. We are really going places, oh and again 10/10 for the travelling fans who outsung the home crowd yet again.
