Carroll Singing The Blues While Yossi ExtendsSubmitted by Neville Nixon on 25 May, 2007 - 17:19.
West Ham's Northern Ireland goalkeeper has requested a transfer from the club which has been granted. Carroll is believed to be on the verge of signing for Cardiff City in order to ensure first team football. Having been in re-hab for drink and gambling problems a move to a new club will hopefully be a fresh start for the player who joined on a free from Manchester United, we wish him all the best in the future.
Yossi Benayoun has put pen to paper on a new five year deal, obviously the little spat that he had with Alan Curbishley regarding him playing for Israel while injured has been forgotten..
Birmingham have cooled their interest in Paul Konchesky because of an 'excessive' price tag of £4 Million, this from a club that made Hammers pay well over the odds for the injury prone Mathew Upson..
It does appear that Matty Etherington has earned himself a reprieve at the moment, as his name has been discounted from the current list of players for sale, a list that includes Jon Paintsil, Christain Dailly, Callum Davenport and Nigel Quashie..
Holding out for a high price for players like 'Konch' might seem foolish, but remember there was a huge clamour for him to be called up to the England squad not that long ago.
All in all things are looking good, more of the same please. - Ed

I have heard strong rumours
I have heard strong rumours that Carroll wanted to stay and re-pay the club for its help and that it was Curbs who forced him 2 go. Does any1 knw if theres any truth in that? I feel sorry for lad, with his back last season and other problems this season. Good to see yossi on board just hope he can keep his form !

curbs seems to have a bit of an ego himself. examples with konch, nrc, massi, and now apparently tevez and carroll. maybe it's not just the players......
I cant see this Tevez thing being true, as I understand it there was a conflict between the two and that it was sorted a couple of months ago, I do think Tevez is looking for a bigger club and maybe he needs an excuse as he has a genuine love of the West Ham fans but I cant see him saying this, now it could be this source was NRC, Konch or their agents having a bite at Curbs. If he does go it will be hard for me to see him playing for another EPL club better it be a Spanish giant, however if he did stay the only club I could live with is Liverpool never the redsox or the plastics
Without Tevez possibles include Gudjohnson, Viduka, Ashton and Zamora. And remember a lot of coin will be amount. There are plenty of happy songs to be sung amongst that lot!
If the Guardian is right then there has been a big bust up between Tevez and Curbishley.

The only way to have Tevez stay would be for Curbishley to leave West Ham. Tevez does not consider Curbs to be a good manager. He maybe partially right as most of his signings were a flop. However, it was a coup to get both Neil and Boa Morte to West Ham in face of competition from Liverpool. However, I expect Magnusson to be behind Curbs 100%. So we maybe losing Tevez or the media once again are spreading scurriliously misleading information as usual against the Argentinian pair. Also, hope Sheffield United are docked points for their stubborness. They have to accept their fate rather than wait for the AGM to toss them out. The Toronto Fan
A real shame if this is true. Maybe these two should sit down and calmly sort out their differences. Maybe an apology or two would not go astray. That being said, nobody is bigger than the club. Not even a great player like Tevez. The club is on the right track and their will be other stars. If Tevez does leave, he does so with many fond memories.
flap flapping Reo Coker, he's a mercenary and is detrimental to team spirit. Curbs knows this and that's why he's letting him go. Good riddance i say. There are bigger and better players out there. No one is bigger than the club. It may take a little while but we will get there.
Got that right. Much better to build a star team than a team of stars. Build it, and they will come, my son!
confidence is high, whu are going places.... funny though, it doesn't feel right, im used to yo yoing divisions and losing to teams we should beat and winning against "bigger teams". Im sure i'll get used to it. Anyway NRC, i think im with the other posters, im not bothered if he goes or not, he put in the request..his decision, he probably thought curbs would beg, tough luck son, now youve made yer bed, lie in it. ive said it once, i'll say it again, im right behind EGGY. TEVEZ and EGGY the best hammers all season !!
Can anyone honestly tell me that they have the priviledge of supporting a better club than West Ham? I mean let's face it, football, at the end of the day is a game of emotions. It stirs loyalties, and it can crush you with one own goal. More than that, for years we have felt every emotion that you can experience. The depression of relegation, the frustration of having Scrooge McDuck as our penny pinching chairman, the man who sold the crown jewels, and rode off into the sunset with a cool £40m. This season alone we have gone from being everyone elses favourite second team, who gallantly lost last seasons FA cup final, and turned into a team that has been stripped to the waist and whipped with just about every possible sensationalised headline the press could use against us. Finally, finally ...we are about to get our just deserts, for all those years that we have sold a Rio Ferdinand, or lost to a lowly second division team in the cup, we are about to buy 'world class' players, and according to Lucas Neil 'go after anyone, even if they are ungettable' - we have a chairman who will do that. For every time that someone has had to stand, in the North Bank...we are moving to a 60,000 seater £350m stadium, and entertainment complex. A club with the history and supporters that this one has deserves success, cos we've taken the blows..and we've always come back for more. Fortunes always hiding? Pah, I think that they're just around the corner. Mind how ya go...Smiffy.
(I'm sorry if these points have been made before - too many posts to read). I'm actually fairly ambivalent about Reo-Coker transfer request. I reckon he's talented and I'm sure he'll have a long and successful time in the Premiership but I can't decide if I'm pleased to see him go or not. Last season I thought he was too young to be captain by he proved me wrong with a term of good/great performances culminating in an excellent cup final, but it just seems like that success went to his head and the supposed bids from Arsenal or Man U made him think he's too big for West Ham. The fact is, if he takes the move to S***s (most likely), he will spend most of his time on the bench and there's no way that one of the top 4 are going to come in for him. Basically he burnt his bridges this season assuming that he was one of the best in the country and now he's made himself unwelcome at West Ham and proven himself unloyal and inconsistent. I genuinely think the best thing for his career would be to get stuck in as a West Ham player next season and either cement his place in the team and secure the fans' affection or secure his place as a quality player and get the "big" move he's after. I think he could have been great for West Ham and if Eggy's plan's come true will rue the decisions he's made this season.
top post. I would throw in that SINCE Eggy's arrival I've noticed a big improvement with him. When you're so young fame would tend to go to your head especially if you're passionate. As an England international / under age captain I'd like him to stay. I say address his issues away from the training track, see him mend his ways and have the fans give him a fresh chance, review in 12 months. To strip him of the captaincy, IF that is what's been inferred, is to make him feel unwanted, spit the dummy and leave. Predictable. If we had the opportunity to sign an England u21 captain, we'd be looking at it very closely.
Sorry lads, proper link here:

Oh yes! Luco's got it bang on there. I don't remember beating Chelsea tho. Robby C is a bit of a riduclous target. I think I'll join Nev running round the pitch naked if Robby C pulls on a Hammers shirt next season! And yes Luco's missus would undoubtedly get it

Lucas Neil talks about West Ham tabling a bid for Viduka, and Roberto Carlos amongst othet things - plus he's bird is a proper f*ckable little thing! Hands up who wants to be Lucas Neil? I'll settle for being a West Ham fan tho! Up the Irons!
Smiffy.
When my brother was 13/14 (around 1990) he decided he was tired of supporting West Ham and started supporting Leeds United (!). He had no reason to choose Leeds in particular, we have no family from Leeds and none of us had ever been there. I think he thought that West Ham was a bit of yoyo team and Leeds were on the up and maybe it was a bit of a teenage rebellion thing. I remember he had a picture of Eric Cantona on the wall that he used to literally worship. A year or so later Leeds won the league and it all seemed a good idea. My brother tried to get me to convert and as an 8 year old influenced by his older brother I almost wavered, but I held firm. Even at that tender age the likes of Ludo, Potts, Parris Bishop, McAvennie and Morley had already made their mark. There was something that couldn’t be changed. My blood was already Claret and Blue. I remember writing Judas! on bits of paper and hiding them all over his bedroom, in the pockets of his clothes and in pages of random books (he kept finding them years later!).
I endured years of belittling and almost pity from my Judas brother while Leeds won the league title and had their heady champions league runs. He was smug thinking he'd made the best decision of his life. BUT NOW!! OH YES!! Leeds in the old THIRD division, in debt up to their eyeballs and in Administration, while we have a multimillionaire backer, just had the most unbelievable, unprecedented escape from the drop and THE APACHE, the modern day Eric Cantona. I suppose I feel a little bit for him and Leeds now but he definately deserves everything he gets , I mean what self respecting boy changes clubs. WEST HAM THEN, NOW and TIL I DIE!!!!!!!
your brother is a typical glory hunter m8 and deserves everything he gets for jumpin ship!!good for u stayin loyal...we r the westham CLARET N BLUE army!!!!!
Benayoun signing shows that he has obviously seen the ambition around the club and wants to be a part of it. I suspect that Curbs and Eggy have shown him who's on their summer hitlist and that would have convinced him that he's going to be a part of big things at Upton Park (or the Bobby Moore Stadium for that matter!).
So NRC's handed in a transfer request. I feel as though I should feel more sorry about that than I do. Unfortunately I don't. I don't wish the bloke any bad feeling, but I think we knew he would be off sooner or later. I remember his agent being interviewed outside upton park by sky sports last year just after a meeting and he said nrc would be a west ham player for the rest of the season but after that ...
He has a greedy agent who is the kind of slimey, self hyping, egotistical, arrogant individual who would rub any club up the wrong way in my opinion.
Ady
II see reo coker has handed in attransfer request
I like the fact that Curbs is going to give this kid Ephraim a chance (just signed on for another year). I've seen him play if he gets a chance with Tevez and Ashton this season as a back up I can see a potential star in the making.
He has been out on loan with Colchester and by all accounts they love him, also plays for england youth be interresting to see what Curbs and Merv can do with him, they are pretty good at bringing talent through. One for the future
I really just can't understand how anybody can stand up for Reo-Coker. 'Oh, he helped get us out of the relegation scrap'... But he was one of the main reasons why we were at the bottom of the league in the first place. He's clashed with his own fans, refused to accept criticism for his dreadful form at times and sulked when he wasn't told about interest from Arsenal and Liverpool last August. Frankly, his attitude sucks. He can get the hell out of here... None of the 'big boys' will come in for him now though.
i do think it's right that he goes and he's had a very poor season as have so many others. His attitude is awful especially as captain , no denying that. But, in 05/06 he was unbelievable, led like a great captain, was one of the best english mids in the prem and shud have made what was a poor england world cup squad, there's no denying that either.he has since gotten too big for his boots it is however right for him to leave but i expect he'll be a very good buy for whoever gets him and will be an england regular in years to come. for now good riddance.
I think he shouldn't go he is an amazing back up keeper to have in your squad.
I persoally think it is a refreshing change that we are showing someone the door for the right reasons and not like it always has been for the cash. It is obvious that we are letting NRC go because he does not fit or want to fit into Eggy and Curbs plans.
I am confident that they have a replacement lined up and I think when we find out who that is we will be glad to see the back NRC.
Everyone keeps saying Parker is coming in I think we could do better than that.
Sensible post mate. Completely agree. It's clear that NRC was too far up his own arse to give a *** about the club. I personally can't wait to see the back of him. He even clashed with some of our fans last season at Upton Park if I remember correctly. That's exactly the sort of behaviour that you want from your captain... Not. Good riddance.
I'm trying to think of 3 letter swear word for you post (***). So far i've come up with poo, nob, wee & ass but they don't really fit
not a good example of a captin at all! think of past captins moore, bonds....legends, even someone like lomas used to have the right attitude unlike coker.
we might end up keeping him because of his high pricing, and who would want him, man u - getting hargreaves, arsenal have gilberto, fabregas and diaby and wont wana pay over the odds for an overrated english man, chelski have got sidwell along with makelele, lampard, ballack, essien and mikel, liverpool have got gerrard, alonso, mascher and sissoko. who from the rest would want to pay over the odds to buy him because he is potentially a future england player and possibly captain. tottenham may do but they have jenas, zokora and huddlestone - they need a goalscorer in midfield. everton have a load of midfielders - cahill, arteta, carsley, neville etc. big sam probably wont be interested when he has parker, emre and dyer. so whose going to buy him? he should have realised that unless he's got a move lined up, then he will end up staying and the fans may get on his back again. he should have thought this through unless he proves me wrong by moving within the next few weeks.

he'll go to spuds. they've an awful habit of signing a load of midfielders on d same level, where nobody is better or worse than amyone else.
Regarding the Reo Coker situation.
Reo hands in the request and West Ham accept. Then the agent says he is surpirsed that West Ham will let the Captain of the club leave? He handed in the request didnt he? That in itself says he is not dedicated to the club. I think personally the fact that Reo has not been able to accept the abuse he got as his part of the crap season we had shows he either isnt mature enough to handle the position and/or he didnt want to be here in the first place. Sounds like he expected West Ham to plead with him to stay cos he's so great and it didnt work out for him.
As Eggy said, if a player doesnt want to be part of West Ham then they can go. Eggy and Curbs have seen first hand what a destructive dressing room does to the team and they are definately making sure they have committed players this year.
Also, whilst Reo Coker is very strong on the ball, has a great engine and is a decent tackler, he cant pass a ball more than 10 feet thats why he often runs with it so often and doesnt scrore enough goals, certainly isnt a play maker. Yet he isnt really considered a defensive midfielder either, hence Mullins played with him. That was a lot of our problem last year, we had no creativity in the middle and Yossi and Matty werent playing that well on the wings so we were f88ked.
Anyway, i applaud Curbs for saying addios if he has handed in a transfer request. But the good thing about this that is that if we are letting him go we MUST have a replacement lined up, otherwise they wouldnt do it. Parker could be on his way???
My understanding of the situation is that NRC can leave,if someone comes in with an acceptable offer, circa £8m rumoured. How would it be possible to have a replacement lined up if, as reported by NRC's adviser there has been no contact from any other club?
Mind you Barry Fry stated that Tottscum were close to nabbing him! Does this mean that Defoe is on his way back, or maybe Huddlestone as an anchoring centre midfielder? DJHammer.
Totally agree with the above post, superb. The team was comprimised with the inclusion of NRC, but he was the best of a bad bunch. Our central midfield was weak until Noble broke into the first team. A result of that was Tevez dropping too deep to try to collect the ball, and he couldn't get back into scoring positions. I think that this is the best solution for all concerned.
Brown, Aldridge, Pard’s and NRC were the ones presiding over the clag that was the 06/07 season & NRC's request to leave us seemingly acknowledges his part in that calamity. However, due to his youth vs. the learning curve that he’s on, I would easily forget about it if he did - but his transfer request indicates that he’s unable to.
Best wishes Nige (- please don’t do a Lamp’s on us cos that would be ‘Cry Baby Bentley’ and arguably both undeserved & unforgiveable after what we’ve been through).
surely now we need a goalscorer from midfield, reo-coker has managed 1 goal this season - shows you where the problems are, we need a lampard or a gerrard who can pop up with these goals at least aiming for 5-10 goals a season. parker wouldnt give us that, but someone like cahill would and thats what we badly need. noble will pop up with a few but we need a few more contributors in terms of getting goals. it might mean looking abroad, but has curbs got the ability to pick out another benayoun? and by the way reo-coker will realise he should have stayed when we are flying high. but he has been committed in helping try and stay up, good luck to him for the future unless he goes to S***s or chelski!
Not sure about Parker in general, havent seen him play enough, but I do know that he was a goal scorer at Charlton, definately an attacking midfielder, now everyone seems to think he is a holding type player. Dont know what happened to him but Im sure of you check his goalscoring record for Charlton it was pretty good. Could be wrong though.
Parker is a similar player to NRC, I agree if paired with Noble would seem an effective partnership, not the most imposing duo though in the hurly-burly prem, due to lack of height. If as suspected NRC goes to spuds, how about bringing in Huddlestone + cash in return? This boy can play and is built like a brick out house.
Has curbs got a history of good signings, inc at charlton??
curbs may be able to bring in players like Darren Bent and Darren Ambrose who both wouldn't want to stay in the championship.
George.P
Yep did well with next to no funds got Charlton up and kept them there for quite a few years.
Plus done ok so far Neill, Boa( was not 100% fit this season still to see the best of him). Upson (unlucky with the injury but a good signing).
OK Quas was a bit of a panic buy but we did have a lot of injuries at the time.
I am looking forward to see who we get I am quietly optimistic I think we really do have a chairman and manager that know what they are doing
