Pardew Stitches Up Hammers BodybagSubmitted by Neville Nixon on 24 February, 2007 - 21:04.
Last Season West Ham were champions at coming back from being down, next season they will be down in the Championship hoping to get back up.
OK so there is a mathematical chance that salvation from the drop is still possible despite the 4-0 drubbing by fellow relegation strugglers Charlton at the Valley but realistically most fans will now have accepted the inevitable. Dean Ashton, Lucas Neill and Mathew Upson, three 'world class' players will probably be available for the home game against Tottenham next week, but given the 'car crash' state of affairs at the Boleyn they will most likely have as much influence as a calming injection given to dogs and cats prior to being dispensed from this mortal soil.
Effectively the game was over by the 33rd minute when Jerome Thomas scored from 12 yards out to put Charlton 2-0 up, the home side had already gone ahead when Darren Ambrose scored the goal that was waiting to happen on the 24th minute having been put through by Marcus Bent who had repeatedly skinned Paul Konchesky, the game was up by the time Darren Bent crashed the ball in from the edge of the box 5 minutes before the break. The Hammers players trudged off the pitch knowing that their fate had been sealed at least for this match and almost certainly for their season. Carlos Tevez showed a few touches and came close with a free kick but Hammers lacked the bite to take on a Charlton team that were pumped up for the occasion, to be honest the deficit could have been even worse.
The second half started with Alan Curbishley's team showing a bit more endeavour, hardly surprising bearing in mind that they had nothing to lose, but despite plenty of huff and puff they could not break down a resolute Addicks defence. With Harewood and Blanco on for Etherington and Cole Hammers pushed for some form of respectability in the final scoreline with efforts from Tevez, Harewood, Benayoun and Davenport all going close but as if to put one of the final nails in the Claret and Blue coffin, Jerome Thomas scored his second and Charlton's fourth with ten minutes remaining.
The rest of the match was like attending a funeral that you wanted to escape from but are obligated to stay till the bitter end.
We have a team of gamblers drug takers and posers who have been found out, if the previous chairman had not sought to persue his own agenda for becoming super rich and had invested in new players to bolster those who would obviously be 'found out' for their lack of footballing adaptability, perhaps things might have been different, but as things are even wholesale changes won't be enough to turn things round this season, best just to wipe the slate clean and plan for the future. - Ed

Alan Curbishley:
"I'm as devastated as the fans are. We just can't get any lift-off. We created a bit more second half but the game was over by then.
"We were disappointed about the first goal although it was well finished and we could never come back from it. (???????)
"The question is are we going down with a fight or a whimper. There are 10 games left, lots of points at stake."
Alan Pardew:
"The performance was good but today the win was all-important no matter how it came.
We've set our standards for the rest of the season with this win. It's been a difficult day, a difficult week leading up to it for me because I have a genuine love for West Ham and their fans which will never die."

This is so sad, I don't know
This is so sad, I don't know where to begin.
If Curbs was a real man, he would resign. The Eggman needs to admit he made a mistake, and try and get Pards back.
If Curbs won't go, can we get a petition, or something, organised to get him out.
How many Agents have been in to discuss their players' futures (don't forget, the players belong to the Agents, not the Club). We need to get our Next Season sorted now.
No break this year for the players. It needs to be hard graft from now until the end of August.
And didn't that young Argie bloke play well for Liverpool?

i find it so funny when im talking to me mates who are fulham man u and chelsea fans, saying how bad the team is and how great fans i find it stupid that we the fans along with Tevez are the ones trying to keep us up. it is ridiculous the players shuld take a hard look at themselves or someone should tell them they won't get a move to a so called 'bigger club' with how bad they are playing now.
O.K. The last thing we need at the moment, is that cruellest of emotions: hope...but...
Our next three games are home v Spuds, away v Blackburn and home v Middlesborough. Now don't tell me this is stupid, 'cause I know full well it is, but these three teams are all safe from relegation and are too far off a Uefa place to have any serious consideration with finishing in the top six. Add to that 'Boro and Spuds are in contention for other prizes; that we have a habit of beating Blackburn, and the fat sow in the sky is still looking for the lyric sheet!
I know that it's Chelski and the Arse after that, but if we did get nine points from these three games, a draw against either of these two would get us to 30 points and then it's the Blades (who I believe are the team to catch), Everton and Wigan. Bolton are beatable at home, and Man U may already have one the league by the time we play them, and may have a Champions' League final to look forward to.
Yes, I know this is all utter bollocks, but I reserve my unaliable right to utter bollocks should I choose and to pass on any hope I feel, so you too may suffer!
Just a thought on yesterday; why bring Kepa on when he's primarily an aerial player and take Etherington off, when he's about the only player who can provide crosses of sufficient quality? Also, is there a conspiracy against Mark Noble?
It rhymes with "clucking bell"!
SJ
Quite frankly it would be better to not get those points - because we're going down and it would only get our hopes up just to bring us crashing back down again :-(
Its all well and good saying that its all bollocks, but if we could scrape a win against those tossers next week, it might just kick start something as it is still mathematically possible.its hard i know, but i am still hoping,i cant stand the thought of dropping down into the fizz again.
I've watched an old 'Fools and Horses' today but your post was even funnier !
Thanks for making me learn to laugh again !
"nine points from these three games" We will be lucky to get 9 points from now until the end of the season!!
Well Curbs really sorted his team out after a 2week break for him to train his ideas into them! What excuse next? Altho ulimately the players are to blame he cant get ANYTHING out of them! Thats what his job is!! Pards was sacked after a 4-0 defeat away against an always difficult side going for europe. Eggert sacked him due to no motivation and employed Curbs. A few months later we have actually gone backwards Curbs has shown what we knew already that he lacks enthusiasm and MOTIVATION and we end up being beaten by a poor team that were going down! Eggert made a panic decision to get Curbs. Give him till the end of the season and make sure you make the right decision this time! Mad Dog should be involved somewhere in the Club. As for you Tevez lovers its time to stop blowing smoke up his arse, he has yet to score still ewven against the poor teams like Charlton. How long before you wise uo and stop blaming everything else for his lack of goals?
there's a saying my old man told me .....keep it real son .
was your old man renowned for melodramatic nonsense too ......oink ha ha
Curbs has blamed bird flu for turning his multi-million pound side into a bunch of lame turkeys. Since joining the Hammers, Curbs has done what he does best: trying to keep Charlton up.
winston churchill or harry redknapp ha ha ha ha ......that's a classic
Would take someone with a little intelligence to understand about simile. If a manager can "lose the dressing room" it takes a character with respect to get it back and harness it. But I'm probably wasting my time again, my ole man always used to say "don't cast your pearls among swine" I rest my case oink
we'd better hope this doesnt happen ...

Souness took a Newcastle team that was challenging for a champions league place to fighting from relegation within a season. If he joins Wet Spam then he'll take you lot from a play off place in the championship and into the conference. I say give the man the job...............
Curbs: "We came here to win today"
Well why start with Dailly, Mullins and Quashie??
Curbs: "Confidence is the issue"
Well what's the point of your effing job? Inspire them. Or at least use tactics & a selection that might get a result.
Curbs: "We need a lift-off"
Good change of expression from '3-pointer'. He must be reading this website.
Sack him.
Sack 75% of the squad in the summer.
Bring in Mad Dog or Billic.
WHUFC 'till I die.
I hear Curbs has been banned from going to Threashers as they are afraid he might turn their claret into piss too. You lot are a joke.
I told you I'm a boring tosser from another club and I'm so boring and my club are such rubbish that I have to come on your site
oh shame you didnt put a bet on it as we lose every game, but you aint clever enough to do that. i wonder if you know what the offsife rule is,(although neither does our defence!) YOU are the pr**k who isn't clever enough to get a f**kin grip and p*ss off. you are a loser, a disgrace and a pathetic excuse for a fan. do you know what a fan is? how's school?
bring back billic la la la la hey! get rid of curbs at least we'll see ashton next week in a hammers shirt you never know next season it could be a newcastle 1 :(
The NOTW reporter as just said on Jimmy Hill's Soccer Supplement ' West Ham are doomed, they are a yo yo club and always will be'.
Sums us up pretty well I thought !
"In May 1940, after the disastrous Norwegian campaign, Chamberlain resigned and Winston Churchill became prime minister". When it's a fight to the 'death' what you need is a war-lord, like Winston Churchill or Harry Redknapp someone who will rally the troops then join us all in spirit in that tooth & nail, life & death struggle, courageously BATTLING till the end. During WW1 Lord Kitchener said "Your country NEEDS you" West Ham squad if ever the Claret n Blue army needed you it is NOW. For me tribal football is the modern version of urban warfare, not only do our front-line troops do battle for us taking on the 'enemy' on their own turf, we (the fans) dig the trenches dig-in behind our boys and support our them with a rear-guard action, the rear guard action is there but our front-lines are being over run we feel vulnerable and under a sustained attack that we seem unable to repel. I refuse to sing "you're not fit to wear the shirt" or "we want our money back" but I will also REFUSE to sing "Alan Curbishleys Claret n Blue Army" Eggert Magnusson made a monumental mistake when he sacked our 5 star general instead of backing him with more troops in our winter of discontent, as he promised. Our then under seige army was thrown into chaos and disarray some fled the field others became casualties, there was no one to take up our Standard, we were on the fields of Flanders or Bannockburn we were being defeated; our general had been banished because of our war cabinets panic they had listened to The media broadcasts of Lord Haw Haw and instead of standing resolute they had collapsed under his persuasive evil. Even though we may have bungling senior ranking officers that will send us insanely on our disastrous charge of light infantry down the valley of death, our troops need to show that same courage that same inextinguishable faith the true belief that we can beat them and overcome; charge head-long into the might of the full opposing army carrying our standard high. The British cavalry distinguished themselves with two astonishing charges. The second of these was the now world renowned, Charge of the Light Brigade.
On Lord Lucan asking what he was to charge, the only information was "there is the enemy and there is your order."
"There the enemy consisted of fifteen thousand infantry, four thousand cavalry protected by ten guns, to reach them we had to go down a ravine between two hills with ten guns on each besides a host of riflemen. Down we went very steadily, the fire was terrific, it seemed impossible to escape, we were well in range of grapeshot on each side besides the barkers in front".
Eggert gave us AC to rally the troops in the call to arms, Dunkirk was one of the worst ever British military defeats in history, but we were all VERY PROUD OF OUR BOYS, our hearts are warmed even today by the talk of the "Dunkirk Spirt" NRC, Anton, Hayden, James Collins, Noble Mark Noble, The boys in the frontlines our allies form around the world from Israel from Argentina, those with Polish ancestory, those with Christian Spirit, Hear the call to arms fight for the Claret n Blue, Never in the field of tribal football have so few owed so much to so many. Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer we'll keep the Claret n Blue flying here.
I heard the fat lady sing at Newcastle... 2 nil up and allowed them back in. I refuse to spend a single penny on WHU until August when we are back in the Championship and shipped out the Baby Bentley boys. Next season the Premiership will have 3 sacked WHU managers... Ol' Bagpuss, Rodent and Pards. Dont sing "we want our money back" just dont go in the first place... these mugs dont deserve our money. if you do go the song should be "your not fit to wear OUR shirt". The claret blue comes in one size...it must'nt be allowed to shirk to fit the saps that wore it yesterday!
Yeah know how your feeling and can go some way to support what you say but its hard when it's not just a game and the Claret n Blues is in yer blood
A really gtreat piece of writing. If that could score goals we would be up and away in the League. I have just read (as I expect many others have) the report in the Independent. From that, I sensed that the feeling was that there was too much emotion for Alan Pardew that the players were almost frozen. There was emotion from all sides for AP. It might have been a different story if our men had been playing a different side. Just too much bagage there in this side in this match. Hopefully we will see a different force going out in the next match flying the Claret n Blue flying.
Cheers mate I'm a real passionate bubbler my two boys (Scott and Dean) are distantly related to 'Arry and mad West Ham fans too, I have great respect for the man, another sacking that proved to be a wrong move. I was there with Dean yesterday; when the forth goal went in we left the Valley that is something I have never done before, left early, if I'd have stayed I mighta cryed. I hope AC can do for us what 'Arry did for Pompey last campaign
Dean here - like my Dad i was disgusted by the lack of grit shown by most of the "players" on the pitch yesterday. What disgusted me more were the excuses cooked up by Curbs as he smiled sweetly into the camera and apologised to the West Ham Fans...
Pards showed more respect to the team and to the fans than Curbs ever could or would, proving he really is still a Charlton man, despite his best efforts to try and convince us all otherwise...
Call me a knee-jerk reactionist, but i think Eggbert NoBacon should go (he's proved what he knows about "soccer") and so should Curbs - he isn't even man enough to quit (but he should give me back the 35 quid he owes me before he closes the door)...
IRON!!!
Dailly, Ferdinand, Davenport and konchesky were absolutely disgraceful yesterday. I've just watched match of the day and can't believe just how poor they were. It was like watching the Keystone cops at times.
Are you having a laugh, they were the best players on the park. Those 4 can have a start every week as far as I'm concerned
The tactical and positional sense of a number of our players has cost the team points throughout the season. Konchesky was caught out for at least one of the goals, probably two. Dailly went missing so often we may as well have been playing three at the back. He isn't quick enough to get back following an attack and Charlton exploited that.
They also pulled West Ham wide down both flanks knowing that the far post ball will always kill us off because we don't mark up well enough. When a wide defender is drawn we don't have a midfielder tucking back in to protect him.
Very poor.
I am astounded that Pardew seems to have got this happening at Charlton because West Ham have been like this all season, not just since AC.
Our situation is not helped by such poor ability to control a ball - again Mr Konchesky is a chief offender - and we keep turning over possession through poor passing. Today West Ham just kept giving it over, putting themselves on the back foot. There was no leadership on the park although I thought Tevez tried his heart out. The angle Green allowed for their second goal was not up to the standard required.
I have remained a true believer all season. I honestly thought we would pull away from the zone. But the players have to want that too. I don't think enough of them are hungry for it.
There's not much left to say is there? We are gone. And what's more that's exactly what we deserve.
From the kick-off to the final whistle, the entire team was going through the motions. There was no urgency, no determination, and worst of all no fight. Nothing else needs be said about the game itself. As for the players, I find it surprising that Tevez is still getting lauded for his performances by Hammers fans - he was ordinary. Sure, he runs and fights, but when he gets the ball he looks clueless. In the first half when he lost Song and went for a run to the Charlton 18yard box, he looked like every time he altered his course to goal he had strayed down another dead-end alley with one of our players waiting at the end. That pretty much sums up the entire team for me - 10 dead-ends. No point passing the ball down those alleys, nothing will get done with it anyway.
I have defended Dailly in the past, and I still think he is a good man, but he is a rubbish right back. He deserves criticism for his performance, but Davenport surely deserves more. Davenport was dismal from start to finish. Just look at the third goal. At least Dailly has the excuse of being past it. Etherington is rubbish, I cannot wait to see him sold. Just once I would like to see him go into a tackle as if he expects to win it. Konch got his recall, and didnt he make the most of it? This pretty much sums up his game: tackle, yellow card, got skinned, got skinned, got skinned, mis-kick, got skinned, looked confused, got skinned. Mullins - wait, was Mullins playing? Benayoun is useless in a beaten team, and our strikers? Amazing isnt it? We have 6 fit strikers in our first team squad and not one of them could score if their lives depended on it.
I think it is clear to everyone at this stage that Alan Pardew should still be West Ham's manager. As somone who defended him at the time, it is satisfying to note that I dont see anyone going on about Pardew's private life now, or the limited scope of his managerial abilities, or how he had lost the dressing room - I'd gladly accept all that for a 4-0 win over a Curbishly-managed Charlton in this situation. When all is said and done, we are going down. What is truly galling for me though, is that we are going down without our manager in charge.
Lets face reality. We're on our way back to the championship. Disaster season but that's what being a West Ham fan is all about. We're up and down, good times, bad times. One thing is for sure, sacking Curbishley is not the answer. We need him to make the team his own. Get rid of the big time charlies - the Reo-Coker's, the Boa Morte's, the clause-in-the-contract-couldn't-give-a-bollox Upson and Neils. One thing is for sure. We'll come back to the premiership stronger and with a team that wants to play in the claret and blue. Ashton will stay for sure, and with Harewood and Cole and no need to sell, we'll have the goals to fire us straight back up. Noble will be the new Reo-Coker and the rest we'll just have to wait and see. We'll go down fighting, there's no way Curbishley will let it be any different, but 100% guaranteed, us true West Ham fans will turn up week in week out and sing our hearts out until the team gets back to the premiership where we belong. COOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMME ON YOU IRRRRRRRRRRONSSSSS.
He looks like hes had enough to me.

4-0, 4-0???There is no use for weeping in media that same old Mickey Mouse crap! It seems to me that there is no one fighting except TEVEZ!Can't believe Claret and Blue is going down like this; no fighting spirit, no bollocks, no nothing... and all what we got is some common clint clints flipping useless weeping in skysports! This is disgrace! How can crap crappy Charlton beat us 4-0?cup final...4-0, there were no football! I just can not understand the way WESTHAM played, useless crap, no fighting, no spirit, no football... I still think that Curbs is a good manager, but where is CLARET AND BLUE? there were no westham today,I don't even know what did I see??? How can westham cock up so important game, so utterly disgraceful way they did?4-0??? clint clints flipping gruelarses!
COME ON U IRONS!!!COME ON CURBS!!!
WE STILL BELIEVE!!!!!!!!
I was convinced that after two weeks of double training sessions that Curbishley would have it sorted. But it looks to me like the players can not be bothered. As soon as the first goal was conceded they reverted to the usual routine, i.e. collapse. They seem to have no invention, they cannot get shots on goal, or decent crosses, it looked bad today. The defence were poor and the midfield, Ferdinand looked like he was still on Pardews side (They had a lovely cuddle after the game). Where are the goals gonna come from. I'm stunned at how little Curbishley has achieved so far, he seems to have no idea how to spur his team on. The expressions he uses like "we are waiting for lift off" waiting? make it happen. "I thought our position would change" Why? Make it change! Having actually had a negative effect on the club and given that west ham have a nice round 10 games left Curbs could salvage a little respect by resigning. Having said that it will need a special replacement manager to get this bunch playing properly again. We need someone who plays an attacking style, Curbs doesnt seem to know what to do at the moment.
Nah *** it i change my mind... we're gonna drop christian dailly, win 5 games, get 15 points stay up and wigan go down!
- Morgan
Embarassing... But, I'm sure the players are sleeping soundly!
Followed West Ham since I watched them win the first FA Cup I ever saw as a boy living in Australia.
I watch hammers when I get the chance. Man football is not my number one sport so I am no specialist but I know sport.
And half this side has the heart the size of tic tac. The manager might be average but he can't pick them up and phsically carry them around.
This lot must have spent time with the English cricket side.
There is never any excuse for a professional sportperson not to try. Never. And you learn about character (who has it and who does not) watching struggling sides.
Been supporting the Hammers for over 40 years, but I've had enough !
Despite having had great players wearing the claret and blue, and the odd good season, I've witnessed one relegation too many.
I'll stiil look out for their results and care for them but we never learn our lesson, I can't stand another season of crap football, and pay £40 a match to watch it !
life sucks for this hammer. not only do my 4 boys support blue shite chelski, they clint clints flipping slaughtered me this afternoon, even my 4 year old was ripping me.
Well done Pards, I said when when curbs joined us that Charlton will prob stay up and WHU would go down, hope I'm not right. Is it just me or has curbs got his head in his hands everytime he's in the papers? I think we all need to boycott a match and see if that shakes em up. £515 for the B M lower, Mmmm what can I spend next seasons dosh on?/
