6 January, 2007 - 14:41 — Neville Nixon
Alan Cubishley has selected a team with five changes from the one that was humiliated by Reading last week. The most notable absentees are Nigel Reo-Coker, Marlon Harewood Mathew Etherington and Paul Konchesky, none of whom even make the bench.
Starting Mark Noble will bring a cheer to many fans as will the inclusion of Carlos Tevez in the starting line up, as expected Luis Boa Morte makes his debut alongside Yossi Benayoun and Hayden Mullins and Noble in midfield.
George McCartney replaces Konchesky at left back and Christain Dailly is preferred to Spector at right back. Curbs also gives a rare start to Carlton Cole who must have thought that his days at the club were numbered until very recently.
The exclusion of the Bentley Boys will surely add to the speculation that one or all of them will be on their way during the transfer window and is a sign that Curbishley is about to stamp his impression on the squad in no uncertain times.
These changes are what most fans have been calling out for, it is hoped that they will be productive and the new line up will help shake the club out of the poor run currently being experienced. - Ed
