Pool v Hammers

West Ham take on Liverpool at Anfield, still hurting from the 'Nightmare on Green Street' against Chelsea. Hammers have nothing to lose and everything to gain from this game in hand, there is a chance to put things right, and of course there is the possibility that it could all go horribly wrong! Liverpool (from): Reina, Arbeloa, Carragher, Hyypia, Aurelio, Riise, Benayoun, Gerrard, Mascherano, Alonso, Babel, Kuyt, Torres, Crouch, Skrtel, Lucas, Martin. West Ham (from): Green, Wright, Pantsil, Neill, Spector, Upson, Ferdinand, McCartney, Faubert, Ljungberg, Noble, Mullins, Solano, Boa Morte, Cole, Ashton, Camara, Sears. PS: Apologies for No Polls No Next Match details etc..We are in the middle of an upgrade to stop 'ze hackers' and cannot do anything until the extensive archive and database has been uploaded, thanks for your patience! - Ed

4-0 three times in a row is not acceptable. this just says loud and clear that the players are not up for it. I know people have been calling for Curbs to be sacked no end and these voices will just get all the more louder and perhaps now with justification. However, West Ham have never been a sacking club..we usually (Roeder & Pardew apart) stick with a manager and let him turn things round. Personally I dont think Curbs deserves the sack yet. If nothing else the astonishing feat he performed to keep us up last year should give him time. Lets face it we were doomed when he took over and he has saved us in no small way financially ...we would be in the Championship with players like Chadwick right now dreaming of being 10th in the premierleague. at the end of the day 3 defeats at 4-0 is not good enough at all but the players are to blame more than Curbs. obviously they feel the season is done and cant be bothered anymore. doesnt matter how much ranting and raving Curbs dishes out to them..if they dont put in they dont put in. yes ultimately this is the manager's responsibility but all in all i say if we sack Curbs who's coming in? Mourinho would certainly improve the club..but Di Canio? he would be fine if things got off to a good start..but as soon as the wheels fell off what then? Bilic? correct me if I am wrong great player for us...but his loyalty extended to him saying he's leaving us for a 'bigger' club and went off to Everton after a year and a half. He's no club management experience too. Do we really want Allardyce in for Curbs? no thanks. For all those doom mongers...i say look at the season overall not just the last 3 games. We've had some good performances even with the squad being bereft of our best players.

What an embarrassment our last two results were, I was well of the mark, might as well played the reserves. I'm 50/50 about Alan Curbishley staying on, we are boring to watch now but do have some stabillity and no threat of relegation. Saying that West Ham fans expect entertainment and drama and Upton Park has always been a soap opera with relegation and promotion every few seasons, but there doesn't seem to be anything to cheer about these days, I almost miss last season with Tevez and those 10 remaining games. Basically I want Paulo Di Canio to become our next manager and bring back the good old days, change my mind like the weather!

so many fans are suddenly talking of the embarrassment of loosing so drastically to chelsea and liverpool. But to be honest I was more embarrassed about us drawing with ten men reading on boxing day(when it was televised, with so many watching), loosing to wigan, drwing with brum, scraping past fulham so pathetically(with a goal that should have never stood for 2 reasons), our FA cup game against man city which was televised as it was expected to be the best game turned out as the worst game of the season, and probally the newcastle game after seeing their real quality this season.

JS, does PDC have a coaching ticket?
Submitted by Johnny Saccromoni on 9 March, 2008 - 13:35.
I don't think so, although it doesn't take too long to get your coaching badges, and by then Curbishley would of had long enough in the job. I don't want us to turn in to Charlton, boring.

Cheers, Johnny, I was pretty sure that PDC wasn't qual'd. Meanwhile, not everyone is up to being a student and what makes us think that PDC could be too arsed doing homework on our behalf only to get wrath about being this or that in a years time? (...I get bemused at rants about our destiny being one of blockbusting generalisation and/or gobshite ideas)

Some hammers fans I know were jumping up & down cheering that first chelsea didn't win carling cup & then that they & man U were knocked out of the cup. The reality is that now 2 uefa cup places have gone & we have no chance of getting in europe. They were 2 games we perhaps hoped that chelsea may have got through.

We are all talking about signing this player getting in this manager, what we need to do first is make sure all our good young talent such as Noble, want to remain with us and not chase glory with one of the so called bigger clubs. I agree we need to start blooding some of our young talent for the rest of this year. This will have effect of both giving new excitement and energy to the team and it will also hopefully fire a rocket up some of our bigger named players if they know what sought of players are coming through the ranks. We only need a couple of quality players next year, mixed with our bit of experience and some young energy and we can improve. The only thing i ask of West Ham is keep our good youngsters

I wasn't going to bother watching MOTD tonight (saturday) but I've just got to see a re-run of chelscum losing at Barnsley! and hearing Fergie's ridiculous rant because they lost to Pompey (at home) .... the man has lost his marbles - too much whine! lol .... and last week I tipped the Barcodes for relegation, and they "got done" (as Curbs would put it) at Anfield, and after tomorrow's matches, they could be deep in the brown stuff! I don't think they would have been in this trouble if they hadn't sacked Fat Sam, lol. Anyway, can we please have a fighting display against the spuds tomorrow ???? I'm off to my local pub (Hastings) where I will be joined by about 20 other locals who will be wearing the C&B with pride as usual. I'm a lot more chirpy after today's results - lets not forget that Reading beat Man Citeh 2-0 !!! We MUST NOT let the spuds do us tomorrow - we need what Curbs last year called a 3 pointer !!!! Iron Man since 1974 - come on you IRONS !!!

Does anyone else think the Barnsley centre forward Odejani (not sure if spelling is correct) is like Dean Ashton USED TO BE! I hope Dean is watching because that is how strong he used to be on the ball, wining headers, holding the ball up and bringing others into the game. Chelsea can not handle him and Dean used to do that for us - but not this season. Don't get me wrong, i love Ashton but at the moment he couldn't even beat Razor Ruddock in a race! and we all know what DiCanio (correctly) stated - that Ruddock had .. the pace of a pig! Come on Dean, get back to your best and help us do the Spuds tomorrow ..... PLEASE.

To all those people saying bilic wouldn't come here and we've got no chance of getting anyone like that I completely disagree. I think after the euro's he will be itching to get into a club side and we all know how much he loves the irons. The only problem is it will be too late at the end of the summer. IF the board decide to make a change it will have to be soon for a new man to get acquainted with the side & the club before next year & have the opportunity to have a real go in the market. Having said that I don't think curbs is going anywhere. He deserves a chance after last year & lets face it for this year as well. We've never really been in any trouble all year - have we. As for Mourinhio, I have a feelking he would love to manage us - but I don't see it happening. Can you imagine the thrill he would get beating chelsea in the premiership in claret & blue - also I think he will adore the passion we have for our team, which is lets face it, better than the chelski boys.
Submitted by KingPaulo on 8 March, 2008 - 19:37.
Personally i think we would have a really good chance of getting Bilic but it is a matter of 'if' he wanted to come; he has proven that he can do a good job at International level with Croatia and i think any manager in that situation would love to ply his trade in the best league in the world; the fact that he is an ex-player is to our advantage. But let me ask one question - if he has the same sort of season as Curbs has had this season, how many people on here would be calling for his head after a relatively short period of time? My guess would be quite a few; he might make us play prettier football, he may even get us to win a trophy but as much as i would like to give him a go, is he really going to be any better or worse than what we've got? Is he, or anybody else, going to take us to the like of Wigan, Bolton and Birmingham and get us playing free flowing, exciting football that everybody craves, and get 3 points? I would hope so but there is no guarantee with West Ham but that is why we love them - it's never a dull ride being a Hammers supporter. As for Bobby's point about Mourinho, it's a nice thought that he would like to come and manage here but i think we have more chance of getting bitten by a daffodil. having said that i remember a few years ago when we were linked with buying MArc Vivien Foe and so were Manure - when interviewed Harry Redknapp said "didn't you know, all the footballers in Cameroon grow up dreaming of pulling on the C&B of West Ham?" As it was, we signed him a couple of weeks later, so you never know...stranger things have happened!!COYI
Submitted by A Hammer on 8 March, 2008 - 11:10.
Bobby, re Bilic: I'm sure we'd like to believe that '...we all know how much he loves the irons...' but are we living in a bubble? He did a cracking job for us and with utter passion - but what if that is his life/work ethic anyway? He is foreign and human but was he an iron in his cot/school/teens like a lot of us? Are we deluding ourselves about how flippin nuts he is for us?

Just read Neill's Blog on the OS. He's calling on all of us to get behind the team for this match, and he pledges every ounce of energy and wit from the players. Made me feel terrible for griping about the last two matches. It's clear to me now that it hurt the players more than it hurt us. OK, then, Lucas--I'm laying down my grudge and getting behind you, the captain, and the manager and everybody for this big match. Get out there and do us Aussies proud, mate. COYI!!!

Whilst this is a fans Forum and everybody is entitled to their opinion, who exactly are we going to attract as a manager if we oust Curbs?I can't see the likes of Ericsson, Trappatoni, Mancini, Rijkaard or any one else of that calibre coming can you? Unless of course they are just here for the money and what good is that? The same applies to players - can you see the likes of Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Shevchenko fighting over who is going to get to pull the Claret & Blue shirt on first? I don't think so!! I have never been a fan of Alan Curbishley, as a player or a manager, but nobody on this site can say that he hasn't improved our position on last year - he might not have improved the football but he has improved our position with limited resources i.e. injuries and players that were available to be bought. The last two results were more than disappointing but to build a team takes time - look at David Moyes at Everton, he has taken quite a few years to build a good solid team but even then they don't win every game. Some of the people on the site whilst entitled to their opinion really do need to wake up and smell the roses becuase we have acheived far more than last season. Again, i don't believe Curbs is the person to take us to Champions League football but sacking him now or in the summer to replace him with someone else who won't deliver that seems stupid; if the right manager becomes available then that is a different matter - Bilic would be my best bet for someone to take over from Curbs but a) that won't happen until after the Euro Championships and b) there is still no guarantee it will be any better than it is now under Curbs - he might bring in more foreign talent but anybody who knows anything about English Premiership football knows that it can take a foreigner anything up to a year to get used to the Premiership. Whilst i agree with some of the points on here about the way we are playing, i ask you is there really anything better out there that will come to West Ham? Di Canio? Good idea - the man was a god to me as a player but let's be realistic, a) he didn't travel North of Watford, b) he had more fallouts than Bellamy - we wouldn't have any players to play as he would have suspended them all, and finally c) he hasn't got a scrap of management experience at any level let alone Premiership. Let's me honest but the best players don't always make the best managers. My final point is that no matter what is said on here, nothing is going to change anyway unless the players do it; you can say the managers got it wrong as much as you like but unless all 11 players go out on that pitch with the passion and desire to win, it ain't gonna happen, and that is what we've lacked recently - PRIDE AND PASSION!! Get that back and we can beat anyone as we proved against the Gooners and Manure. PRIDE & PASSION!!COYI

Regarding what big names would come here,VENABLES would be a realistic option. The only drawback is that he has been out of the game as a manager so long.

Ricksta - Kingpaulo you've hit the nail on the head (with the west ham hammer) We have a mid table finish which is the objective for this season but we now need to look forward and build on what we've done so far, next season must see us qualifiy for Europe which in turn will attract a better class of player. Don't get me wrong losing to the blue gay pride brigade (Chelsea) at the park kills me but it goes to show how far behind the top teams we are. We have to put a good show on at S***s just to get some pride back so come on the lads WEST HAM TILL I DIE
Submitted by asheshammer on 8 March, 2008 - 02:39.
KP, I agree with a lot of what you are saying. I don't see anyone better to replace Curbs now or this summer. And while it pains me to admit it, it's plain that for some reason top managers and players are not attracted to West Ham. I wish it weren't so, because I love the team so much, but I think consistency, attractive football and a winning record have to come BEFORE the top players and managers take an interest. And that won't be easy. We do tend to forget how bad things were last year. And we've been up and down the table for years. My frustration, though, comes from having seen the team play poorly all of February, when we could have been picking up points against the leaders. Now we've been absolutely destroyed in two consecutive games. You can say, "But it was against top sides", but we only lost 1-0 to Chelsea at the Bridge (and THAT on a controversial Joe Cole goal) and we BEAT Liverpool at home. If we had lost to Chelsea and Liverpool 1-0, or even 2-0, I wouldn't have turned on Curbs. But the truth is, we lost both matches 4-0 and you can't say we had any serious attack or defence in either match. Given the poor performance against Wigan, Brum and Fulham, and the abysmal performance against Chelsea and Liverpool, Curbishley MUST now show that he is worth his salt against Tottenham. I don't mean he should be given an ultimatum (Win or you're out), because we don't have anyone better to replace him, but I mean that those fans who have stuck with him are going to feel like suckers if we lose 4-0 again. If we win, well, then he's got his foot back in the door, and we can see how the run-in goes. But this is the moment of truth.

It'll be on FOXTEL, at 2am Monday. If you're in a hotel that has FOXTEL in the rooms, it should be available. It is listed on the program as FOXSPORT 3, and it should be the main match. But if it isn't, there's a thing called "VIEWERS CHOICE" which allows you to see the other current games. Believe it or not, we've been able to see every single one of West Ham's matches live this season. Some people might say that's painful (LOL), but we've loved every minute of it. Well, except for the last eight goals against! Ask your hotel desk how to get Foxsports VIEWERS CHOICE. If you have neither FOX nor VIEWERS CHOICE, look for a sportsbar that is open all night and ask if West Ham is the main match. If you can't bear a 2am match, it's replayed at 1pm. COYI!!!!!

I can see what you are saying i really can and i can see you are trying to approach the matter sensibly. however i still think any manager could have come in and used the cash given to curbs to save the club, and pull off what we have done this season. Lets face it we have played like a team with no cause what so ever this season and constantly lack that something half special going forward. Really when you look at the money acctually spent how many of the players baught are that much better than what we had. Curbs is not the man to take us forward and we have to show ambition and look around long and hard. To us, yes it seems there are no over managerial options but there is enough quality out there for us to find someone and get them in. The very least i want at the end of this season is a technical director to step us up.
Submitted by nigedevlin on 7 March, 2008 - 19:29.
KingPaulo, Whilst you make some good points in your post i must disagree with your final point. Pride and Passion will only take you so far. Tactics and Tactical training is what is needed to open up good defences and score more than a passing goal every few games. Faubert made the point that he couldnt believe that he in all the time with the team had only had two tactical training sessions. We can all play five aside training games and practice crosses and free kicks.Noble in the last game showed his frustration at the lack of forward movement (i know will say what forward movement). Whilst this is partly down to the players the coaching must take its share of the critism. Curbs and Day may just be two similar in their approach perhaps we may have to bring in a strong tactical attacking trainer in the summer because at this point in time i cant see us scoring!
Submitted by clare15 on 7 March, 2008 - 18:37.
Put it this way guys ,say BG handed Curbs 50 million what do u think he will buy? and would u feel confident him spending it?.Personally i think Curbs is quite lazy when it comes 2 buying players, even now rumours are that we want 2 sign Sidwell and Bent ,now i would be hugely disapointed by these players as lets be honest they are perceived as not good enough at their current clubs ,y do we want them then.I want 2 see quality scouting i mean look at Benayoun he was a steal.West ham should be playing bloody exciting football and im afraid that is not what Curbs can offer us.I want 2 see quality full backs charging forward with pace and supporting the attack,i am incredibly impatient and i want glory 2morrow like everybody else ,but like ive said before i think we can only judge Curbs on next season but unfortunatly we might be in for more transfer mistakes and more boring boring football.
Submitted by asheshammer on 8 March, 2008 - 10:08.
Not that bad when you think about it. Curbs spent a lot less, net, than a lot of other clubs. Two good examples come to mind: Tottenham, who are on 32 points, and Man City, on 44. Sven spent so much money so fast you couldn't believe it, and at first everyone was saying what an ace he was. Look at them now, fading, fading, fading. I still think West Ham can catch them. And Tottenham spent more on Bent alone than Curbs spent, net, on all his players. No, the transfer market is actually NOT one of Curbs' big failings so far (unless you think the injuries are somehow his fault).

We keep on saying oh once Curbishly has got his attack minded players back we will sort things out, but i watched our game against Wigan at the start of the season, that gamw saw bellamy, dyer and zamora play. We hit the target about twice and our link up play was absolute rubbish. I have know seen curbishly play ljunberg and faubert as well as ashton for a few games and still we have been shiit going forward. Face it no matter how much time you give the man he will not be able to deploy an attackive west ham side who will grab goals. He didnt do it at charlton and he wont do it here. ill be at totthnam on Sunday and it will be another one of curbs boring displays, the only thing that will happen if curbs is given time is that our top players (and im talking about our midfielders and forwards) will leave from frustration and probally boredom
Submitted by rmoore on 7 March, 2008 - 12:38.
How can any one say give curbishley time. Will you say that next season when we are 3rd from bottom " oh just give him more time". He has been in charge for 49 league games and he has won 19. That is a very poor record. Explain to me what his proper 11 should be cos who would you add only bellamy thats it. He has wasted big money on crap players. Bellamy is the only person you could add to the 11 but I dont think bellamy will play again for the rest of the season. I wouldnt be surprised if bellamy, ashton, dyer, boa morte, and neill are gone. Why are we allowing players to be on big wage packets and not perform for us week in week out or else sit on the bench. I cant wait for the season to end cos its appaling to watch every week. we have been 10th from the start and thats where we will end up unless S***s catch us.

Do you honestly think that with the players available they could do better? are you a supporter or just on here to abuse the manager? LOL you're not expecting much then. If you follow a lot of the active forums you will know I have supported Curbs all season. I was not that excited when we appointed him but once he was our Manager then he had my support. With recent performances and especially some of the team selections that support is beginning to turn but unless there is some super Manager lying in wait then I don't see the point in changing. I do think though that if the style of play and his inability to introduce a couple of fresh faces continues we may well be looking for a new Manager sooner rather than later.

My sentiments exactly !!! Extract the dead wood in the summer...bring in a few fresh faces and give it a go...if he cant attract them and we continue to apply the same boring tactics next season then he will know himself he cant cut it...Lets live in hope like we have done all these years snd u never know he might just surprise us !!! I think the chances of us ever seeing our best eleven are pretty slim unfortunately. whilst I have given him my backing I do think he has rather overloaded us with injury prone players. Perhaps that's all he could get, if they could all be fit togethor I think we might see some much better football.

The Boxing Match Round 1: West Ham hit by hard left jab (Chelsea 4-West Ham 0). Round 2: West Ham hit by hard right hook (Liverpool 4-West Ham 0). Round 3: Will West Ham be hit by the uppercut? KO'd, laid out, done and dusted, finished??? Our Lad West Ham has been stunned. He's in the corner, cut and bloodied. One eye is swelled shut. The other is going around in circles. He can't seem to land a punch! -- What will the manager say to him before he sends him back into the ring? Will he say, "keep your hands up and guard your face, maybe if you can go the distance we can get a split decision"? Or will he say, "Get out there you no good sonvabich and show me what got ya here, or else die tryin". There's still some claret and blue in our fighter's veins, he's a 'Noble' lad after all.
