Black Cats v HammersSubmitted by Neville Nixon on 28 March, 2008 - 20:28.
Sunderland are fighting for their Premiership survival, West Ham are looking for a bit of respectability and maybe a string of results that will give the fans something to cheer about.
Alan Curbishley is in a similar 'comfort zone' to that which he experienced for many of his latter years as Charlton manager, but while mid table suited everyone at the Valley the same cannot be said for West Ham and particularly Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson it's Icelandic owner!
Curbs will have to go into uncharted territory as he attempts to push Hammers up the table, OK Charlton were in 4th spot when they sold Scotty Parker to Chelsea, but that was the zenith of their achievements.
Curbs bashers will doubtless be annoyed if he does manage to pull off the blending of old and new players that he is currently attempting - Ed

just seen the team for today. I cant tell are we playing Noble on the wing, or 3 central midfeilders and ljunberg behind the strikers. I must say though while we are midtable i cant see the point in playing spector insted of preparing the likes of tomkins with games while we have chance.
If it is to be believed, it looks like Spuds are going to get rid of a number of players from their current squad:
Tottenham could allow Paul Robinson, Aaron Lennon, Jermaine Jenas, Tom Huddlestone and Darren Bent to leave as boss Juande Ramos looks to whittle down his English contingent. S***s coach Juande Ramos is considering bids for Valencia's David Villa, Real Zaragoza's Diego Milito, Toulouse striker Johan Elmander and even Barcelona's Ronaldinho to fill the void left by the departing players.(Daily Express). If true, I think that we should seriously consider bidding for Jenas instead of Bent. Today's game is not going to be as easy as it looks on paper. But our lads can do it and come away with all three points. Lawro was wrong when he predicted a 2-1 win for Everton last week. He is once again predicting that the Hammers will lose 2-1, and once again he will be proved to be wrong.
If we had to have a Spud in our team I'd choose Lennon, didn't Huddlestone nick Bobby Z's girl? With Wrestlemania just round the corner we could have a tag match Zamora & Dyer vs Huddlestone & Bowyer
Look up St Bartholomews Rd just off the Barking Rd on Google Maps. I always manage to park there, have a walk down the Barking Road and stop off for a pint or two at The Central on the way. Alternatively look at Tunmarsh Lane down the other end of the Barking Rd. and have a pint at the Greengate or one across the road (The Castle I think). Either way tho, they are a sod after the game so have another pint or two after the match to let the traffic die down.
I can't find any live streams for the game and liveonlinefooty has just sold out too. Anyone got any ideas? I can watch the whole game tonight but not until 10pm.
There is absolutely No point in playing Sears today. If he has been struggling with a groin strain since Saturday there is No way that he will be 100% fit to play.I would much prefer not to see Sears play in one game than not to see him in 3 or 4 maybe even 5.This will be the case if Curbs plays him. Also I would LOVE to see Collison get the chance to prove himself in the middle of the park at some stage in the match. He seems to have been playing very well and has been consistent for the reserves.3-0 to the Hammers.
!West Ham Till I Die !
!!!COYIrishHammers!!!
Does anyone know if Sears has recovered from his groin strain? I noticed Nev has him listed in the squad but the last I heard both Sears and Upson are out injured.
On the subject of injuries, I was looking at other clubs and what they have done to combat soft tissue injuries and Barcelona was the club that stood out. In 1992 they added a hi tech weights and fitness centre to their training ground which was designed to research and address their injury problems. Since they added this facility it has reduced their soft tissue, or "low impact" (I think they called it) injuries by 92%. That is an incredible improvement and something we need to look into. Freddy Sears picked up a groin strain when he went on against Everton last week so we have now lost him by the looks of things. I thought Upson would only be out for a week but that has dragged on. What is it with us and injuries at the moment? I hope Tomkins has a good game, he did well last week apart from the goal. I didn't see much on here about his two goals he scored for England. I can see Anton, Tomkins, Collison, Noble and Sears all playing a huge part in the next 2 or 3 seasons for us.
HELP! need parking 4 derby game heared denmark arms is best this, anyone help on directions to get there. Thanks 4 u time.
WH, the parking might be good by the Denmark Arms but getting there can be a nightmare. Maybe consider grinning at the grid-locked tractors by walking from a bit further out. Come south on the A406 (from M4? - but can get congested pre-match too), take the first slip-road at the A124 roundabout onto a trading estate which is usually OK: Have your post-journey leak at the Tesco on the roundabout and enjoy the swagger past stacks of chippys/kebab houses/programme sellers/wacky fruit-shops along the Barking Road. It takes about 25 mins but unless it's slashing down, it's better than spending the same time (often more) snarled-up in your wheels...
classic dave - "diehard curbs basher" made me chuckle .....
Nev there are two types of Curbs basher. The fickle one's that turn on him after bad results or the type from day one have constructively pointed out his limitations and that he was the wrong choice for us. The fact that our home crowd are often subdued and never chant his name..speaks volumes. I fall into the latter bracket, but nothing would please me more if he proved me wrong as that would mean we became successful after all Chelsea players have rallied round to drive their club forward in spite of Avram Grant!
I've tried chanting '...Alan Curbishley's claret and blue army...' It aint easy! We need a manager with fewer sylables in his name, eh... (Currently listening to Christian Dailly putting in a good game for the 'Gers, bless him)
It's CURB-ISH-LEYS CLARET AND BLUE ARMY but I'm definitely not gonna be singing that ever !West Ham Till I Die
COYIrishHammers!
You're being a bit cynical there aren't you Nev? Why should the Curb bashers (Of which I am one) be annoyed if he pulls off the blending of old and new players he is currently attempting? If it comes off and good football ensues I will hold my hand up and say Well Done ! But as a die hard Curb basher I am more inclined towards the fact that Curbishley hasn't got many options left so the current blend is more enforced as opposed to a bit of inspired managing. Inspiration is certainly one thing I don't give Curbishley credit for.
i would rather see camara playing tomorrow then lbm camara was playing good at middlesborough and i havint seen him play since so if zamora is not fit enough to play i think we should play him
i've seen him play since (everton at UP in the league) and he's not up to much. might have just been confidence but his first touch, passing, speed and positioning were all probably worse than LBM.
I wonder if we will see LBM playing tomorow, Curbishly certainly seems to think he has quality hidden away somewhere, but he must be able to tell know the fans cant stand him and even the pundits are starting to turn.
From what i have seen of Sunderland this season, which by the way is a fair amount. I do think with Deano on the up if we can get forwrd and ljunberg as well as bobby are putting in their maxemum effort we should be rewarded with some goals.
yeah it is typical, bloody Sears has a groin strain we'll miss him 2morrow.As long as players get forward enough 2 support Ashton we should win but u never know what West ham's gonna turn up.The Sunderland crowd are quite noisy 2 but im sure our lot will out sing them as always.C'mon!!!!CJ
I've read on the o/s that Sears is injured, and struggling to be fit for the game. That's typical of our luck,we find a striker to replace Bellamy, and he gets injured too.
hopefully they said sears was crooked so he did not play for endland i read that he was having a late fitness test tommorrow fingers crossed
