Maybe, just maybe Curbs ISN'T to blame for our injuries...

I've just looked at physioroom.com for the first time and in the light of the recent debates about Curbs and our chronic injury list, I thought I'd see if I could find any evidence to back up my assertion that this is a freak season for us. 04-05 we were not in the Prem, but Charlton had the LOWEST number of reported injuries that season (joint on 9 with West Brom) http://www.physioroom.com/news/english_premier_league/2004_05/injury_ana.... In 05-06, we had the lowest number of injuries with 12 (joint with Chelski), Charlton were next with only 14 http://www.physioroom.com/news/english_premier_league/2005_06/injury_ana.... Someone said the big competitive squad causes injuries, but there have been very few impact injuries. Other than Dyer, I don't think any of the players are overly injury prone (Upson used to be in his younger days). I think it's Soggydog who is a sports scientist and as has said there is nothing wrong with the medical team or methods at UP. So, freak season, or is it still Curbs' fault?

Well we all know curbs is already looking at pre-season right now and so he should be. If we can get dyer bellamy faubert etherington parker ljungberg gabiddon fit for the season next year then i think the majority of us will be prepared to forget but perhaps not forgive. However, if the injuries continue into next season then we will have a right to further question the root cause of the injuries.

I really don't think we can lay the blame for all the injuries on Curbs, he has fetched in a couple of injury prone players but for now put a lot of the injuries down to bad luck! I can remember back to when Harry was in charge and he would regularly come out with " we are down to the bare bones" Are the training facilities up to scratch? I don't know but I'm sure it will come out in the wash but would hope to see a vast improvement next season

Yep, I'm determined to go to UP and ask one of the guys whats going on.... I can speculate but I don't have any hard facts. The overly competitive squad theory is completely wrong though, as usually there's only 12-14 fit squad players anyway at Chadwell. The team kinda picks itself at the moment !

Speculate away mate, that's all we ever do on here anyway! It'd be interesting to get a more medical opinion...

Whilst I'm concerned that quite a few of the newer players are prone to injury, I don't think AC is responsible for the incredible number we've had this year. Harry was always going on about being down to the bare bones despite also having large squads; nobody ever seemed to blame him.

Harry would buy players and they would get in the team and play. Curbs has bought players to strengthen and then we've had to suffer them being on the sidelines all f'kin year meaning we've had to use a lot of the crap we had left over from Pards' reign and the other MAJOR CRAP that Curbs bought in ie LBM. Now I'm firmly on the Curbs out bandwagon and have been since our piss poor draw to Birmingham and whilst I agree not all the injuries are his fault what did he really expect buying a high number of injury prone players into core positions. Parker & Dyer in midfield, Bellamy up front, Ljnuberg/Solano on the wings? Not rocket science as those rocket engineers say...........

M2C, as I said in the header, Dyer IS injury prone. Parker and Bellamy are NOT overly injury prone from what I know of them and I'm pretty sure that Ljunberg only had one injury hit season at Arsenal.

Parker and Bellamy have always had niggles which have kept them out. Parker wasn't always 'not selected' at Chelsea, he wasn't available. Bellamy, as with a large majoriry of pacy players struggles with muscle injuries a lot, hamstrings, groin etc so rarely plays a whole season. Ljunberg we pick up as he enters the twighlight of his career and is more prone to niggling injuries. But Curbs believes he has healing hands or the best medical team available around him so can deal with these. Not working so far is it? How many operations has Bellamy had since he joined in the summer, 3? Parker has had knee problems since he joined albeit unrealted to previous ones, but that means they're new knee problems to add to the old ones. Be looking at new knees later in life I suspect? His summer buys, if any, need to be crock free and have little or no history of injuries to be on the safe side. faubert we was unlucky with so hopefully he'll be fit and ready to go next season.

Everyone liked Old 'Arry though didn't they? Also, our expectations seem to have gone through the roof this season. With Curbs, I think everyone is either tolerating him as our manager, or hating him with a passion. Those that hate, are very vociferous in blaming him for pretty much everything under the sun which I don't think is healthy for the club, hence this attempt at balancing out the argument.

Agree apache mate..I am neither a lover or hater of Curbs and West Ham always seem to have had injury problems..it is more accute this year but to lay it all at Curbs feet is a bit OTT for me...Next term I feel will be more bountiful for us fans I feel..

Agree with Isaac and AIH. Too much blame on Curbs, it will be better next season for sure.
