The academySubmitted by macca75 on 25 April, 2008 - 09:14.
While watching the CL semi's this week it struck me that there were four ex WH acadamy players...playing the combined cost of the players would be around 80Million or so...the point of this post is that if we can keep hold of the 6 or 7 youngsters that are in and around the first team now for the next four years we will have the base for a very good team...we seem to have the abilty to produce these player...but they don't alway get the chances as there seems to be a policy of buying proven pros...with the new MD in place i'm hoping that these players are kept together rather then sold on...think about Manure 10/12yrs ago when they had Giggs,Beckham,Scoles,Neville and Butt all making it from the youth teams...the future is bright...COYI

I noticed it too put a post
I noticed it too put a post in the current season form, along with the four there was Yossi Javier and Tevez. Seven ex hammers playing altogether. I'll agree with you that if we can create a spine of the team from our youth academy then we could have a very good team indeed. Ability to produce this talent is unquestioned. Look at Barcalona one of the biggest clubs around built on their academy base of Iniesta, Puylol, Xavi, Valdes, Messi(brought in to suplement academy), and the new kids Dos Santos and Bojan. They were able to sell Reina, Arteta, Pique and Fabergas. They retain that local link unlike say Terry(the only first team academy boy) at Chelski and his soldiers of fortune playing for the highest bidder. Would like to see us keep a core group of academy boys to build around. COYI the future is bright.
