Hammers v Toon

Submitted by Neville Nixon on 25 April, 2008 - 19:01.
West Ham will take on a resurgent Newcastle United at the Boleyn with the Hammers players still remembering the boos that were ringing out from the home crowd as they left the pitch following the 2 - 1 defeat of already relegated Derby County..................Sticks and stones Etc but does anyone think booing your own team off after a VICTORY, albeit against the worst team in the Premiership, could in anyway be constructive? Kevin Keegan has got the Toon up and running whereas to many Alan Curbishley has just 'done a Charlton'. If it wasn't for the ludicrous injury list Hammers could have fielded five ex-Newcastle players, as it is only Scotty Parker and Nobby Solano have made the squad to face their old club........................................... West Ham (from): Green, Pantsil, McCartney, Tomkins, Neill, Faubert, Solano, Noble, Parker, Ljungberg, Boa Morte, Sears, Cole, Zamora, Upson, Ferdinand, Collison, Mullins, Ashton, Walker, Spector...................................... Newcastle (from): Harper, Forster, Beye, Enrique, Taylor, Faye, Edgar, Butt, N'Zogbia, Duff, Barton, Geremi, Owen, Smith, Martins, Viduka, Carroll.

This was the style of football and commitment we have waited for all season long. But for a short period when Newcastle hit back with brute force led by the power, pace and quality of Martins, they were never in this game. This was a vintage West Ham tapisty of flowing, intricate passing and sharp, angular interplay all over the field. How Keegan must regret that Parker was not part of his Newcastle inheritance. The man was outstanding. When West Ham scored their second I really believed the foundations of Newcastle's game would collapse and that it would end up in a classic West Ham rout. All credit to the opposition that they did hit back and I thought they earned some good fortune with their second. Despite a couple of moments where he found himself awkwardly placed defending the counter attack, I thought young Tomkins was again strong and a great prospect. I too thought Pantsill was excellent, as were Faubert, Noble, and of course Parker. Green pulled off a wonderful save but still needs to come off his line sooner, Neil was more solid than he has been and I thought Cole contributed well for the short time he was out there. Ashton should have done better with Cole's deft lay-off at the edge of the box. All in all a terrific game from the Irons and a very positive way to be finishing what has been a disappointing campaign.

cant see Green leaving and that carr rumor has to be a joke. A transfer like that will not help us in moving forward what so ever

Couldn't Agree More! Hammerthon, I second everything you say. I would also add that the atmosphere seemed TERRIFIC. It seemed like the atmoshpere of Upton Park of old. And the fans didn't give up at 2-2, nor did I hear the boo boys this time (if they were there at all). I only wish that, for their own confidence, Hammers had held on to that 2-0 scoreline till halftime. I think they deserved a win, and Curbishley deserves credit for putting out a team with pace and flair. Don't miss Mullins, but I think we'll miss Freddie Lj. Well, now, we got a job to do next week, ain't we? COYI!!!!

I thought Keegans interview was probably more telling of how and why we performed. Well done the Hammers. The teams performance today was all important and they didn't disappoint. Of course if you want to be picky you can find something to criticise and no doubt someone will be coating Curbs still and say we didn't win because his laces were not done up right or some such thing. Now lets go and get a draw at Old Trafford, or dare we even hope for a win? I fancy we will get a draw at least, we always manage to upset the plans of the top teams, why should next week be any different? Well done once again lads!

About Time, Just got back from the game and that was the best we have played all season! good passing! great effort from the lads! special mention must go to Parker, Pantsil and Faubert who were all fantastic. I have been on here all to often moaning about the effort of the team, Well not today bloody great! yes we didnt win but we played FOOTBALL! Crowd was great today also lots of vocal support. When Boa came on a few growns went up but that was soon drowned out by applause (may be crap but he is our crap) Paulo was there! it was a nice sunny day with good football and a few drinks, Don't get much better. Oh and we are still five points ahead of the Spud Shits

Can't agree about Pantsil. It was his long ball along the ground to Faubert that was cut out that led to Newcastles goal. He could have brought the ball out himself. Boa Morte was poor and McCartney was tired out running up and down the wing for two. Losing Ljundberg was a blow. Viduka in the second half put himself about and began winning most balls against Tomkins and Neal. Midfield faded badly in second half.

You cant blame pantsil for one pass that led to the goal, anyway COYI well played today IRONS!!!

Great performance toady from the lads!Paulo Di Canio was in one of the boxes today and got a standing ovation from the crowd when he took his seat and during the match his name was chanted. There were only a few negatives from todays match one being we failed to put them away after being 2-0 up and the other being Freddie Ljungberg who was just getting back to form has suffered a broken rib more than likely. For the first 40 minutes we were playing beautiful attacking and flowing football. So I am one proud Hammer tonight and I would think there are many many more proud hammers tonight.

it emerged from the fans forum that it's part of our contract with Unbro to release a new home and a new away kit each year.
Submitted by DaveHammer99 on 26 April, 2008 - 18:34.
We will be getting a new home and away kit next season. Eggy's son in law was in charge of merchandise but has recently been sacked. All merchandise will be sold through the club and will be of a much higher standard. Hooray!!
