Any other controversial Hammers?Submitted by hammersfanno1 on 17 May, 2008 - 10:15.
The debate about Anton's worth to the team has been quite lively. Are there any other current players who would generate such polarised views? Mullins perhaps? LBM doesn't count, he is so poor that anybody defending him starts with zero credibility. Noble perhaps? Neill maybe? McCartney perhaps? Etherington? Gabbidon? Take your pick and share your view on why one of that list either definitely should or should not be in West Ham's first 11. And if you want to defend LBM, go for it. Only, please post your address so we can send around the guys in the white coats. Broadmoor in the summer can be quite pleasant I hear - unless you are the Yorkshire Ripper!

Not quite - I go to the West Ham statistics site that, ironically, Davefking told me about and then do the calculations. The site is superb, logging every game, every result, every team, scorer, booking etcetera. That said, it takes some time to do the Maths on individual win ratios etcetera.
fanno. what is our win rate when parker noble and ashton have all played in the same game?. just curious as i thik nobes and parker are a great partnership and ashton is class. should be a regular england started in my honest opinion.
If that is your dream team, it is bad news I'm afraid. West Ham have only won 27.7% of their games with Parker in the team - that is a massive negative drag factor. In league games that have featured Parker, Noble and Ashton together, we have only won 23%! Back to the drawing board mate!
Current players? Yeah Ljungberg. Facking Swedish cheese eating, migraine suffering ,waste of space. You want to start a real argument why not pick on past players?
We have only won 32% of our games in which Freddie has featured. He has been substituted 11 times in 25 starts. He has contributed just 2 goals. He cost £4m and is the highest paid player in the squad. What does that tell us about Curbishley's judgement?
Well gabbidon can f8ck right off, last season he was saying 10 points adrift i'm off i need premiership football .the prick came from cardiff ,we beat the drop now he want's to hang around.
Not saying this chap should definately be in the starting 11 bust i think we should keep him for at least a squad player..... Lee Bowyer. He's a West Ham lad, when not injured he has a massive impact on the team, remember the start of the season, he has lost his excess baggage and grown up a lot, and for me i don't remember he was a massive sick note. Ok he came to us first time round and he was injured the whole time, but on his day he can definately change a game and more. I would love to hear the stats Fanny, go on give it to me guys....
You want the stats? We have only won 37% of our games in which Bowyer has featured - which suggests he has a negative drag on results. Seventeen yellow cards and one red in 53 appearances is shockingly bad! He has also been substituted 16 times in just 46 starts.
Fanny - give me the stats for his second term at Upton Park, as we know the situation when he first came here....
We won 28% of our games with him in the team in his first stint, but as that was only 11 games it will not raise his win ratio that much for his second term. Might just nudge 40%.
Fanno, who do we have winning percentage results with? Just curious...and don't say Tevez.West Ham Till I Die!!!
It's a good question! With a win % rate of under 40% of our games since Anton made his debut (he ups it to 44%), none are too successful! I'd imagine Etherington comes out well but that is a guess. I'll check it out and get back to you! Just checked, Etherington's appearances result in a 43% win ratio! That's not as good as I expected. Ashton, on the other hand, stands at 46%! That's why we shouldn't sell him! Over a season, that would give us 51 points from victories alone. Throw in 9 draws and we would be at 60 points!
Wow Fanno, you're like the Will Hunting of Hammers stats. Impressive. I'm surprised with the Etherington one though, BUT, "Statistics are like mini-skirts .. they give you good ideas but hide the most important parts." --Ebbe Skovdahl --West Ham Till I Die!!!
I think the Ashton one is VERY revealing. No wonder Fergie is sniffing! We must keep him! In what way were you surprised by Etherington, that it is as high or not as high as you expected. Personally, I think it was the injuries to Ashton and Etherington and the start of 2006/07 that cost Pardew his job. Had those two been fit at the start of the season, I think we would have been pushing for Europe regardless of Pardew's hand up a certain wife's mini skirt, allegedly!
I'm surprised they are that high (with Ethers). Here's an interesting stat...In 2005/2006 Harewood scored 14 league goals, just 2 less than Rooney in the EPL. Not sure where I'm going with that, but you are definitely RIGHT about Ashton. We need to keep him!!! And your insight into the winning percentage when he plays versus how much money clubs receive to stay in the Prem, and to finish in a Europe position certainly shows he is worthy of a large(er) contract.West Ham Till I Die!!!
We should be thankful for small mercies. Maybe next season none of our players will be distracted by criminal proceedings!!
An interesting one is our Mr Bowyer. Seemed to be on top form at the start of the season, but it seems a minor hernia operation has kept him out since then. So he arrived the forst time around injured and didn't do himself justice. 2nd time around he has done ok but not excelled really. Considering his age I'd keep him around for another year to see what impact he can have on a fully fit squad but to be honest he's not convincing me he can do what we need and cement himself in a midfield berth with Parker, Noble, Faubert, et al in front of him.
