Ashton to Spurs for £15M

According to Newsnow the Daily Mail have quoted that 'Ashton will complete a £15M move across London to White Hart Lane replacing the Real Madrid bound Berbatov'? I hope this is just a load of tosh as we will never be able to replace Deano. It makes you wonder if there is an element of truth as there has been no sounds come out of Upton Park regarding the initial contract talks with Ashton.

I think letting go of Ashton would send out a message to everybody, including the fans, that West Ham haven't changed one bit except they play worse football now. Whilst Ashton has had his injury problams i still think he could be every bit as good as King Teddy given a good steady run - he's already shown that he can with the chances he has had. You can moan about his attitude but if i were him i might be a little pissed off that i was one of the biggest signings we have ever had and is on less money than players who i don't think are as good. Look at this way, he's scored 11 goals this season and probably only featured in half of it - looks like a 20 goal a season man to me and of you can get Bellamy or Sears along side him and firing on all cylinders, there's a 40 goal-a-season patnership there...if we serioulsy want to challenge for Europe in anyway,we have to keep Dean Ashton...

This has just been cut and pasted from newsnow. Personally it looks believable to me! Ashton set for more Hammers contract talks By Rob Pritchard Comment WEST Ham striker Dean Ashton is set for further discussions with the club over an improved long-term contract after holding "productive" initial talks with the Irons' board. Ashton, 24, scored five goals in his final eight appearances as the Hammers ended the season in 10th place in the Premier League table. However, despite finishing the season at the club's top-scorer with 11 goals, the frontman earns considerably less than a number of players signed by Alan Curbishley during the past 18 months, including Lucas Neill, Craig Bellamy, Kieron Dyer and Freddie Ljungberg. advertisement Following the club's last fixture, a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa in which Ashton scored a superb 88th minute equaliser, the forward told the Echo he wanted the club to show their commitment to him. In response, chief executive Scott Duxbury sat down with the £7.25million signing from Norwich City last Friday to discuss the player's future. "We had a very productive meeting," Duxbury told the club's official website. "Dean wants to stay and we want him to stay. "We are committed to finding an agreement on a new long-term contract."

So if the price tag is 15.000.000 then that should give the Willyshites a bit of room for negotiation. I think they'll have haggled his price UP to about 21.000.000 by the end of talks! You gotta luv 'em. Half of the spares are now saying they've 'gotten rid of' Berbatov (was he not very good then?), the other half are still rather too busy with their sisters/brothers/household pets or just plain can't read the news . . .

Hold your horses guys, the club only opened contract talks on Friday, it is very rare when a deal is struck over night even if the player wants to stay, I don't think we will no one way or the other until at least the middle of next week or should I say this week? you know what I mean anyway this Wednesday lol, personally I think Ashton will stay as he is more or less guaranteed first team football here and at the other so called bigger clubs he won't be no matter what they tell him and I'm sure he's smart enough to know that, I do however believe Ashton will only sign an extension if he is given assurances on where the club is going etc and he might even say he don't want to sign an extension till the end of next season to see how the club is developing, if I was him I certainly wouldn't be hurried into signing anything right now and thats why I believe he will definitely be here next season.

I bet Curbs lets him go and sees this as an opportunity to swap him for Bent or something. You just know Curbs is idiot to do something like that. The main way we must continue to push forward is to not sell our best players, but I can see Curbs doing this, its basically him in a nut shell.

Come off it mate why would Curbs seriously want to sell Ashton. The only way we will sell him is if the player wants to go. I really hope all these rumours are just paper talk and desperately want Deano to stay at least for another season.

I'll give you 2 reasons, Ashton can't fit into 4-5-1 and Bent can. I'm worried!

I tell you what Fanno I wasn't to start with but must admit I am getting a bit concerned at the moment. I don't know if it is me showing my age but I was hoping he would show us a bit of loyalty at least for another season. I hope the situation concerning him does not drag on and if the worst is to happen then lets get it sorted and try in some way to get a replacement.

We don't do it that way. Look at Joe Cole. I went away to Bulgaria on my holiday, missed the league kick off, was in a pub in England on the Wednesday to watch an England game and Joe Cole came on as a sub. The caption read, "Joe Cole, Chelsea and England" and I laughed and said, "They've got the bloody caption wrong!" My best mate, a Cockyfool laughed and asked, "Haven't you heard?" So, pay his wages all summer, then sell him on the cheap just before the season kicks off - that's how we do it!

Spuds have alway's been feeding off us for our talent down the years ,f8kin parasites. I would hope now though BG would be saying we are the bigger club so why take a step backwards. It's up to us to offer him an offer he can't refuse(not a horses head in the bed).

Read the comment from the S***s fan on this story - http://www.footballpools.com/pundits-corner/2008/05/18/15million-rated-w... - what an imbecile - I tried to reply but I imagine it will censor me haha. The media are cretins .. "Striker set for Tottenham" when they have absolutely no evidence to support he would even consider it.. The S***s fan said something like "West Ham are going nowhere, Ashton would have no trouble stepping up to the next level"... We played AWFUL this season and still finished above them. Going nowhere? It'll be funny to see his views this time next year.

Yes but Ashton could be playing in Europe NEXT season if he joins Tottenham!

If we sell Ashton to Tottscum, then we might as well all give up and start supporting Dagenham and Redbridge! You'd think the club would be rushing to secure him to a new contract, but this is West Ham United, nothing's ever that easy with us!

the daily snail talks absolute bollecks!! they claimed we bid £15m for Anelka offering him £90,000 a week in th e summer, i wouldnt trust them at all , i respect the times, telegraph and the guardian, all of the other papers talk crap crappy klint and its obviously just an attempt to unsettle this club because if you havent noticed we are now fastly becoming an unpopular club because of the tevez affair and our recent booing of curbs etc etc ..... COYI

I will walk to Upton Park (yes, from Kuwait City) and swear at him and Mervyn Day, and I guess Nani too, if they sell Ashton; to Spuddies, to Manures, to anyone. Period. Yes, I'm not having a good day.
