Should BG Sell Out To Multi Billionaire Arabs?Submitted by Themanfromdelmonte on 6 September, 2008 - 15:43.
Prior to selling Chelsea, Bates had almost bankrupted them and was saved when Abromovich stepped in. Old white beard bought recklessly and had players like Winston Bogarde collecting £60k week for 3 years in the stiffs. Magnusson almost took us down that same road. My question is given our false dawn, would you welcome mega rich Arabs buying out BG like what happened at Citeh with Sinawhatra or do you think he has the ambition and money to still achieve Eggy's business plan?

We've been taken over by
We've been taken over by moneybags foreigners already. However, their moneybags are no longer really big enough now - we might as well 'trade up' for some properly minted investors if thats the way its going. The City owners have moved the goalposts, Abramovich is worth $11bn - these geezers are worth $550billion! The mind boggles and where it will all end.

Any fan would be mad not to want success for the club they love, reagrdless of how it was achieved. The premier league is getting richer all the time and for us to even stay where we are we are going to need investment, and if BG cant do this then i would welcome any invester that is going to show some ambition for our club.
I want us to remain West Ham. I would not enjoy the success of Chelsea if I was a Chelsea fan because it is false success, bought not earned. I am quietly pleased that BG wants the club run along sensible financial lines. I don't want a Brown style like Board, I do want a Board willing to invest sensibly to build a team, but not what has happened at Chelsea or City, thanks. I'm a traditionalist and I like West Ham playing at Upton Park, punching ABOVE our weight and entertaining.
It's that mentality FANNO ,that will NEVER make WESTHAM into a top club.In this day and age, without big money being pumped into our club we will get nowhere. We will just be ,where we are now ,a mid-table mediocre club.MAN CTY, I envy,as I do CHELSEA,they can buy there way to success,as you rightly state. But you need to have a good manager as well, one without the other ,will not work.......Cannot believe you can come out and say you would not want "bought success".I'm sure if you polled every hammers fan in the stadium ,by far the majority, would want it,whatever way it comes.I can see your point of view, and I can sympathise, but unless WESTHAM move with the times they will never see any trophies.Your still living in the past,in the good old days, where club spending was more on an even playing field.I would love to return to those days where clubs could compete more fairly, where the youth system was the primary way of introducing new players to the team.Where the manager had full control over team selection, transfers, coaching, tactics, etc, but those days have gone.Unfortunately, money has ruined this great game of ours.
If the economic structure of the PL and its constituent clubs was to grow at any given rate and one or any of those clubs did not grow at the same rate, they would effectively contract. It matters not what created that growth. As time progressed, any club not keeping up would ultimately become less and less relevant – to the extent that its relevance may even be inconsequent in the lower leagues, let alone the PL. Though it might be seen as desirable, the romantic notion of the ‘old’ standards of being true to the culture of the club, building a team organically and punching above our weight would more than likely become unsustainable – sad as that would be. If the economic force of the league was to grow and expand as a result of pure financial clout from ‘new’ money; that would be the end of the story. In essence a case of sink or swim for all concerned. As it is absolutely relevant to this discussion, the debate of ‘Salary Capping’ would have to become a central feature.
I'm pissed as I type this but I hope it makes sense. West Ham as West Ham in the Fizzy Pop is better than West Ham aka Chelsea in the Prem in my book. I support West Ham and everything the club has been, not WestHamCocaCola and everything we might be. Kill our heritage, kill our club. F8ck the trophies, give me a club which truly represents where I was born and what that represents. Sh1t, I can barely see the keys and in this state I'm likely to shed tears! COYIronsasyou'vealwaysbeenIronsbeforeTurdsexceptfortheMacaribitIrons!
Crickey Fanno; what you say makes perfect sense and I understand fully your sentiments. They are just as eloquent as any of your other postings. Does this mean you are likely to be pissed at the time of making all your postings? LOL. It's a good thing you're in tears, you have me so most of the time. Cheers.
Cheers mate. Actually I said that phrase roughly ten times too often last night! No headache though, too excited about what West Ham can achieve now the Turds have been flushed. I presume Day has gone? It would take a big stick to force him round the U bend!
Alot of premiership clubs now are being bought out by rich owners:LIVERPOOL,MAN UTD,CHELSEA,ARSENAL,ASTON VILLA,MAN CTY and the list goes on,and it will be more of the same as time goes on.Failure of a club's board to provide the necessary funding to progress will lead the club into free-fall if they don't take that option,as other clubs all the while will get stronger. It it the only way to maintain progress.I don't like it,in fact I hate the obscene amount of money in football today.Exhorbitant footballers wages, ticket prices, is all part of the modern game.Loyalty to a clubs heritage is one thing, but not moving with the times and investing big time, will only guarantee what saltbush stated above ,a plummeting of the club into the lower leagues.
Sensible investment is what I ask for. I know it won't happen but I think there should be a rule that every club has to balance its books year on year, to stop the Abromovitches taking over. The point is, just as I would rather finish 14th playing attacking football than 10th playing it the Curbishley way, so I would rather finish 15th by remaining West Ham rather than win the Prem by becoming a plaything for Arabs or Russians. I was uncomfortable when BG took over but I think he is ideal - wealthy but not reckless, willing to invest but only at a level which makes financial sense. We are a stronger squad this weekend than we were last and our bank balance is healthier - that is a well run club!
"BG wants the club run along sensible financial lines"? He'd better sell up then. Who brought in his old mate the maggot? BG that's who. This board is naive and out of their depth.
