Noble a Tevez Prodigy?Submitted by WestHamTiliDie on 4 October, 2008 - 15:13.
Amid all those complications at the time, Tevez's ability to ignore the controversy surrounding him and adapt his game to English Prem was beyond doubt by the time we met Bolton in the great escape year. Remember in the opening half-hour Carlitos destroyed Bolton with a mixture of guile, touch, work-rate and clinical finishing. His first goal - which involved a scrap to win the ball back, he gained a free-kick from the tussle and then hit that curling shot into the top corner (Oh man remember that moment) - that summed up his qualities. Tevez's second was more straightforward but again well finished after he was set up by Luis Boa Morte, yep LBM assist. Our third was the pick of the bunch; again Tevez was instrumental by showing wonderful vision to lift the ball into the path of Mark Noble (peach of a pass), Nobes emphatically volleyed past Jaaskelainen. ~ We won 3 -1 ~ who will play the role of Tevez tomorrow, if anyone? Who has the right ingredients, a “mixture of guile, touch, work-rate and clinical finishing”, is Di Michele the man for the job or is Zola going to play slow possession footy with a patient build-up or maybe sit deep invite them on and hope to take something on the break? Could we play 2 up front Di Michele & LBM with Noble playing a Tevez type of role in the hole just behind them, kind of 4-3-1-2? What’s your take on it given what you’ve seen of Clarkie & Zola so far, are they man enough, I don’t think this game is gonna be as easy as we think it is?

Your dreaming!! The team
Your dreaming!! The team aren't that good, we don't have any exceptional players....Also talking about Tevez highlights another point we don't have a great freekick taker do we?......Always telling it how it is!

Dreaming NBM? Always, thank God, always. Comes with being a West Ham fan - one a these days eh, one a these days. Not yet but Faubert and Noble have potential, don't they?
Fanno, remind me of what 'Prodigy' means please Trev, I've forgotten

Noble playing a Tevez role? F8ck me, let's go the whole hog and imagine Davenport playing a Maradonna role whilst we are about it! Here comes Johan Boa-Morte! Who is this, is it Carlton Cole? No! I do believe it is Pele! In goal, Robert Banks! Is that Lucas Moore? Why, who is that? Is it Scotty Robson or Scotty Hoddle or Scotty Brooking, or Scotty Robson-Hoddle-Brooking all rolled in to one! Carlito Noble! If it wasn't so f8cking tragic it would be hilarious! I know, it's cos you're a 'Ammer! Brain cells and optical nerves at a premium down Green Street way!!!!!!!!!
I couldn't but for one solitary minute expect you to understand what I meant - I did however expect the very clever but obvious irony from the special one
What did you mean? Tevez plays that role because of his ability. Noble's credentials? Did you see his passing today? And his finishing?
Exactly you don't understand - if you had read further down where I talked about a lack of spirit you may have got an inkling, but I doubt it, too busy being clever with the obvious irony
Your closing words of your post: "Could we play 2 up front Di Michele & LBM with Noble playing a Tevez type of role in the hole just behind them, kind of 4-3-1-2? What’s your take on it given what you’ve seen of Clarkie & Zola so far, are they man enough, I don’t think this game is gonna be as easy as we think it is?" That's not about spirit, that's about a role in the team - with Noble "in the hole".
But can Tevez play in the hole? That is the question. We know he can play with spirit, he saw a red against City and could have seen another against Bolton!
It certainly won't be easy B never is against Bolton. As said below I take us for a win but to answer you're question I think the way Zola has got us playing it will be a team effort rather than one individual standing out. He is setting us up well and has got us passing & moving & interchanging which creates a great team spirit among them.
I think the theme of my post D, is that we need a champion and that has been so for a long while, Tevez filled the role temporarily but we need a home grown champion. If the Zola/Clarke partnership have half a footballing brain they should see that. The natural choice for that role has got to be Noble. It's time for someone with some sense to see it - for Noble to pick up the gauntlet and then for the management and the rest of the team to make it happen - WE LACK SPIRIT
Well I tell you what if Fergie keeps leaving Tevez out then we should make a cheeky bid for him. Can you imagine that Twat up in Sheffield it would probably finish him off. Noble's taken a bit of stick lately but for me he had a bad spell like anyone his age would do but seems to be playing a lot better now. He has set up a few assists lately and no doubt Zola will like having a local boy in the team and lets hope he brings the best out of him.
Is it just me, or does the whole Zola thing just ooze positivity? I feel so good at the way the playing side of things seems to be developing. Carlitos back where he belongs in Jan on a 10 year deal would just be the iceing on my lil ol' West Ham cake!!!!! COYYouCanHaveYourCakeAndEatItIrons
Truly great memories of the great escape season B. That curling Tevez free-kick was a beauty. Tomorrow, I think Zola will stick with a 4-3-2-1 formation, with Parker anchoring midfield and Noble being given licence to bomb forward. My guess is Di Michele will make way for Bellamy who will play in a free role along with Matty behind Cole. This will make him very elusive to mark and if they time their runs, can beat Bolton's off-side trap, like Matty did against Fulham. Their pace and Cole's hold up play will prove too much for Bolton and predict a 3-0 victory. Yes I am predicting a clean sheet, which would be the first in 20. We just need to watch out for set plays and hope Lucas Neill doesn't screw up!
Del, Noble could be the key to this I feel, not just for this game but for our long-term future too. We need some real heart and passion, who better to charge down the valley of death leading the Claret n Blue 'heavy' brigade than Marky Noble?
I hope you're right Del and I to would like to see Bellamy let of the reigns but think Zola might stick to the same starting line up. Its about time we kept a clean sheet but it wouldn't be West Ham if they didn't give us a few nerves. I go for us getting an early strike again and go for a repeat of the Toon game and a 3 - 1 win to us.
Morning D, possession football, slow build and a clean sheet will do me today - but if you look at the bottom of the table 1 point should do Bolton today gets them away from the rest depending on the spuds result. With the Toons not playing today S***s could get themselves off the bottom (hope not though) Stoke are away to Pompey so I reckon they'll lose. Bolton will come for the point, 10 behind the ball and wait for us to try and break 'em down. We gotta be patient and just try to sneak the one goal. Spuds and Stoke to lose, 1 point does Bolton - Gonna be a cagey game I feel, ours if we don't do anything rash or stupid and defend well - not as easy as it looks
Morning B, Newcastle are at Everton today. I take a lot more interest in them lately as have taken a few to many bets with the locals so for a change will be cheering on the Mickey Mousers!
