Is BG Really Committed To West Ham?Submitted by Themanfromdelmonte on 7 October, 2008 - 19:00.
BG has denied speculation that he is looking to off-load West Ham in spite of losing a small fortune on Landsbanki who are now Iceland's equivalent of Northern Rock and as an XL investor and guarantor. I believe he is looking to sell and is just putting on a front to keep the asking price up. The clues are easy to pick up, as are the indications that he has no further plans to invest in us. New stadium and new training ground on hold. New strip after one year. Wasn't prepared to pay Curbs off, so forced his resignation. Engaged a low cost rookie replacement manager. Was not prepared to invest in new players not even on loan last January despite depleted numbers. Made over £15M in summer sales with only one purchase Behrami who was bought on tick and was evidently open to offers on most of our squad and has admitted that any future purchases have to be financed from sales. Net of sales, has only invested £10m on new players since he bought the club. Is standing by Scott Duxbury instead of paying him off. Yes he did bring in new sports scientists and medics, but their cost is chicken feed in the light of players salaries and the need to halt the waste of re-occurring injuries. The debate is, in the light of all this and the Sheff U compensation scenario, is BG really committed to West Ham or are we another investment that has gone wrong and are available at the right price?

TOTALLY OFF TOPIC, but had to share this, the funniest comment on sky sports: Unknown fan, "In response to the many comments on Juande Ramos not knowing what his best team is I think he knows full well that it is obviously Seville. Denada". LMFAO

OH MY GOOD GAWD!!!LMFAO!!! That is just brilliant, Thanks for sharing I.G, COYLet`sAllLaugh@TottscumIrons
I think he is badluck. I would like sir trevor to buy us. He surports west ham dnt he :D
Tony Cottee was trying to get a pool of investors together at the same time as Kia. What if Trev were to get involved? COYBeNiceIfIt'appenedIrons
The way i heard it was Tony Cottee was the one who got the icelandic investors together but Terence brown told BG that he wouldn't have any dealings with Tony Cottee so they BG dropped him.CJ
Chicken feed, chicken feed. Who in their right mind would buy a football club at the moment? You would have to be SUPER RICH. I must admit that the irony of a "wog" owning the 'Ammers has a delightful appeal so I hope the Indian buys us. All those tatooed British Bulldog types who moved out to Essex because a f'ckin' Pakki moved in next door to them in Chester Road, East Ham, only to find one owning their beloved 'Ammers! Delicious!
Fanny - a very peculiar post by yourself here. I think i kind of understand what you are trying to get at, but would have been just as easy to say... "can you imagine the reaction of our still racist supporters, who have moved out of London as they could not be personally involved in the multi cultural changes around East London, to now find out West Ham will be owned by an Ethnic person from which they moved away from". Not sure the use of derogotry(sp?) names is any where near appropriate on the site, and strangely enough i thought you were the first to agree with this, even if only "quoted".
I can't believe you are that thick! I'm obviously using the word that the Essex bulldogs use to describe anybody of Asian origin. Apart from anything else, the guy is Indian and the two nations are about as endeared with each other as West Ham fans are with Millwall fans. Catch up, my brain seems to have left yours trailing!
So because you say the Essex bulldogs use it makes it ok for you to use it on here does it. Fanno why did you need to bring it up in the first place, sometimes I think you just go looking for trouble!
Reread it Aycliffe, I also use the term "wog", a favourite, along with "coon" and "Paki" of my grandfather's and most of my uncles and cousins. Looking for trouble? No, amused at the prospect of an Asian owning West Ham though, knowing the endemic racism amongst a sizeable proportion of our once "local" fanbase. I'm up for it, I'm just highlighting the conflict of interest that many others will surely feel.
I don't need to re read it Fanno. I know the point you think you are making but I see no need to use the "language" that I am sure some users will find upsetting. I'm no prude Fanno but how do you think good users like Apache will feel when they happily log on here only to come across this. It may amuse you but if any other user had used them terms you would have exploded.
Reread it Aycliffe. I'm not using the word, I'm condemning the use of the word by putting it into the mouths of the Essex mongrels who have the racist attitudes. It is a commonly used word amongst our fan base; it will force a few to confront their demons if an Asian takes over our club.
2 things, you do use the word "Wog" & it is offensive, I hate that term, it died a long time ago & the last thing I want is for it to get a revival on here, no matter what context it was meant in. Secondly, why Essex, why single out Essex, I live in Essex & know a lot of Westham supporters who would be offended by your "Mongrels" comment, did the racists of yesteryear only move to Essex then, I suppose the plains of Guildford are only inhabited by the creme of modern society whilst us poor Essex mongrels. . . D`ya know what, I haven`t got time, this Essex mongrel has got to go to work, Morning People!!! COYWorkingIrons
Two things. One, it was used because it is used by the mongrels with racist attitudes. That is like saying a journalist cannot quote what somebody says in his newspaper article - it is the fact that these racists use words like wog and Pakki that makes an Asian owning West Ham so ironic.I did put "wog" in quotation marks! Secondly, just because there are racist mongrels in Essex, it doean't mean everybody in Essex is one! Why single out Essex? Because ALL of my relatives now live in Essex and, as it happens, 80% are racist and use the terms wog and pakki and coon quite freely after a few drinks, and always have. Of course there are racist morons in Surrey too, but not many West Ham fans as it happens. Think of Venn diagrams. A circle of racists, a circle of West Ham fans, and not much of an overlap in Surrey; but a much bigger one in Essex. There are still racists that are not West Ham fans in Essex and West Ham fans who are not racists in Essex, but a much more sizeable number in the slither where the two circles overlap. Most in that slither also have shaved heads, ugly wives, tatoos on the backs of their necks and a Staffy. Clear?
You are without any conceivable doubt one of the most self-righteous, unfriendly, self-loving, stereotyping, pompous, over-bearing, intelligence-insulting, crass, hypocritical bigots it has ever been my displeasure to cross paths with be it cyber or otherwise. Your use of long words, generally passable grammar and spelling are however no sign of intelligence as one need only read a small cross-section of what you write in order to draw the correct conclusion regarding your obvious stupidity and utterly Victorian outlook toward 21st century life. You have some very serious issues Fanny m'boy . . . . . Your poor children . . . . . With you for a role model they're unfortunately not that far away from their first dig from one of their less "educated" peers . . . . . . . I blame the parents myself! Sorry if I've given away my mongrel, East London and Essex upbringing/dragging there by the way I've written this post.
I take it that "dig" is another reference to violence? If so, yes, unfortunately, you are conforming, again, to the stereotype. My point remains. that unfortunately we have a large racist element within our fan base and they will be pissed off if we get an Asain owner. In fact, given a choice, I suspect that element would opt for Fizzy Pop under Brit ownership over Prem under an Asian. As for my Essex jibe, check out this link: http://www.bnp.org.uk/2008/04/bnp-targeting-six-second-spots-in-basildon... I am trusting, of course, that nobody would be stupid enough to use this link to sign up - but then Irons, they quite like people who threaten violence against people who they disagree with, who celebrate the mass extermination of Jews and who mouth off against intellectuals. There's a thought!
Oy Ive got a shaved head a tat on the back of my neck an ugly wife and a staffy r u callin' me a bleedin' racist?
OK, there's this Venn diagram: A circle of staffy owners, a circle of guys with shaved heads, a circle of guys with ugly wives, a circle of guys with tats on the back of their necks, a circle of racists, and a circle of West Ham fans. Where all those circles overlap is a place called Basildon! Joking people of Basildon! I know some of you have got pit bulls!
Not sure what "To infinity and beyond" has got to do with anything! Thought you'd see me more as the Cowboy, aint he the miserable one? Old Buzz is full of optimism isn't he? Long time since I watched the movie with my son! It's a shame that in the case of BG the catchphrase is going in reverse - From infinity to sod all! And just when we thought happy days had returned!!!!
Indeed you can. This is the way the season ends, this is the way the season ends, this is the way the season ends, not with a bang but a whimper. Just like my dreams and all that...
I'm not sure what to believe with regard to his commitment Del but with the current climate out there feel sure he would sell if a decent enough offer is put on the table. Putting aside our Claret & Blue biases could you actually blame the bloke. He must feel as if he has been cursed since he took us over and feel he has been in charge for 20 years rather than 2. Since taking over he has overseen all the issues that have blown up over the Tevez saga and that has hardly been put to bed. He sacked one Manager early then heavily backed another to then see us just survive then see all his investment in new players all take their turn on the sick! We have continued to be in the headlines for all the wrong reason and he has also seen the club sponsor go down the pan. Apparently now he has huge cash flow issues so whether he wanted to be committed or not I think he suddenly has had the decision made for him. I only hope this can all be sorted out sooner rather than later as I would quite like a couple of weeks where we are not in the headlines and we can all have a little Siesta!!
I totally agree Aycliffe, I wouldn't blame him either, it is a shame though if we do have to get new owners in though as you can't say the guy hasnt put good stuff in place for a future owner, also contrary to what the papers and Nev has just posted, on the official web site last night Duxbury posted we won't be selling and it's business as usual and surely he wouldn't of been able to release that last night without the Boss knowing about it?
You woke me up when said siesta Cliff! The predicament the board finds itself in, is almost entirely of it's own making. As I said before. This board have been in charge for nearly two years now and what has their tenure brought us? Well they’ve turned us from everybody’s second favourite team into one of the teams that everyone wants to fail. They’ve got rid of a manager who took us to the best cup final in years and replaced him with one who it is generally agreed did not set out to play the West Ham way. They made such an amateur job of “due diligence” that they were unable to prosecute the previous administration over the fine incurred for the signing of the Argentineans.. They broke the rules over Tevez’ registration which has necessitated a pay off to Joorabchain and may well incur a compensation payment to Sheff Utd. They put the manager in an invidious position such that he had little option but to walk without lining up a successor. Thanks BG. Naïve, incompetent and out of their depth. Not waving but drowning. I was wrong! They are waving, waving goodbye.
Think you find it was Eggert Martillo, that did all those things and now BG is trying to clean up the mess and so far I think he's been doing a good job, not his fault Eggert was so care free and misguided with the funds, he thought he could trust the guy and thought he was completely competent, especially judging by Eggerts football back ground, I'm at least fully behind BG and believe once this season is out the way things will be put into perspective and the future will be alot brighter for West Ham,
Don't get me wrong Marty! I wasn't trying to defend BG I was just answering Del's question re his commitment. I'm in the undecided & not sure what really has gone on camp re all that you mention since he took over. He probably started with good intentions but by God there seems to have been a few cock ups since this Icelandic invasion. Is it all BG's fault or more likely the people he put in charge to run our ship either way I suppose the buck stops at him. I suppose the truth will all come out one day but for now I won't be HAMMERING him as hard as you as least we forget the Brown days where everything was hardly rosy in the garden. The game as we know it has changed forever and my dream of having a Chairman in charge who as well as being a passionate Hammer could also bring us a little success seems to be ending like our famous song!!
Marty? I like that! A lot better than Emo anyway. I agree with you, my gut feelings for what they're worth are that the intentions were good , but the decision making has been awful. Maggert, XL, due diligence/legal team.... very poor; look at the people around him, Duxbury and most worrying of all Ikea. Sadly the game has changed for ever and although you and I probably sit on the same side of the table regarding how we would like the club run, economics will make pragmatists of us all.
I will stick with EMO if that's ok? The image of the black spiked hair and the boots laced up to your knees brings a smile to my face whenever I read your posts, especially since you're meant to be me!!!
That's just fine Fanno, if my posts bring a smile to your face...even better. It is true that I go by many names anyway, most of them not printable here!
despite all the goings on, and you could be right Del, as personally I think what your saying rings true, althouhg I think in defense some of my points do too, who ever is right, I'm kinda hoping it's me, not because if I am I can say told you so, but because if i am then it means we have a chairman that is sticking to a commitment even with all the bad luck and wants to see us grow, which can't be a bad thing, I don't want to see us sold, it took so long getting rid of brown and who'd to say if some other investor does come in he won't make mistakes or just be in it for a quick bit of amusement or turnover, I want who ever that does run this club to care about it and I honestly do believe he does otherwise why didnt he just put it up for grabs the minute Eggert was fired? and he still comes to see the team play, personally if you had no love of a club and had payed out so much money to continually have all this bad luck and crap crappy klint thrown in your face, would you still bother turning up to the games when you don't have to? I'm just praying I'm right, this club needs some stability.
I agree with you Del,I do not think BG is in this for the long haul now.The credit crunch has had a big impact on his investments, billionaire or not,his back pocket is alot lighter since the global financial downturn. He is a business man after all,the opportunity to make a big profit when he sells must have great appeal. His NO.2 Fridgeirsson said today that there have been agents all around the club trying to get their attention but they have been turned away......(for now,it should be said). This Indian billionaire looks a strong possibility ,he might just be biding his time.As far as the SHEFF UTD fiasco is concerned,I think that will die in the water.McCABE is out of his tiny mind if he thinks he is on to a big earner. No law court in the world would support that £30 million compensation figure that's been banded around. If they did they would be setting a dangerous precedent for every compensation claim in football, which would destroy the game itself. The huge parachute payment that SHEFF UTD received in getting relegated would have more than made up for any losses the club experienced in that first season. The fact they were not good enough to get promoted straight back is just too bad.If anything WESTHAM should sue SHEFF UTD for bringing the game into disrepute. If there was a case at all for SHEFF UTD then it should have been with the FA who saw fit to only fine us.
Hi Del, very valied points, but as I said to DJ in another post, why spend so much on the backroom staff and training facilites if this was the case? also only last week have opend talks again on taking over the olympic stadium, so maybe thats why the other stadium is on hold? truth is we are all going to speculate until either a statement comes out by the man himself on the official web site or until the club is sold, which I hope and don't believe it is going too, as for the spending, no secrets there.,they said right from the start they wanted to cut the wage bill,I think he is just being a sensible business man right now, he's gettign a return on his investment and trying to steady a rocky ship after the Tevez affair and now with all this sheffield scumsday business, I still hold faith with him, so for now I am being patiant.
Medics, Physio's and sports scientists are low cost in comparison to players wages and something had to be done to halt the wastefulness of having so many re-occurring injuries so that was a shrewd investment looking after the club assets. Of course the club are going to be open to discussion regarding the Olympic stadium because by having such options makes the club more attractive to buyers.
I reckon we could have new owners before Newcastle do as we are relatively cheap and have the mother of all potential!
Me thinks something is afoot and it's not me socks!
Why would the vice chairman state that we are not 'actively' looking to sell and in a following sentence claim that there are many interested suitors? Classic negotiation signals.

We are also in the mother of all pickles. Would you buy us with the Sheffield United compensation claim pending?
I think if it wasn't for the Sheff U compensation claim, the club would have already been sold. I discussed this at length with WHTID recently that the way BG was so open to flogging players indicated that he was on a mission to recoup some of his investment before selling up.
I guess it would depend on how much money I needed laundering, remember Chelski were in a far worst financial plight than us when the Roman invaded!DJ Hammer
Good point DJ. I reckon that Shinawatra's problems helped Citeh raise their profile in terms of being available. A similar scenario is happening at West Ham right now, is it not?
Yeh, that was a little naughty of me, but the PL's fit and proper persons act is a joke, listen to Triesman's interview in the Beeb he nearly jokes on his words when pressed on this subject by the interviewer, as CJ once said to Reginald Perring 'I didn't get to be where I am today by being...........
