England WILL win the next World Cup

Submitted by hammersfanno1 on 15 October, 2008 - 21:22.
I've said it before and I am going to reiterate it now. We have the best team in the world and, at last, we have a winner in charge. Tonight we survived a difficult 45 minutes and then so dominated the second half that I don't remember a single moment of anxiety. Heskey was brilliant, Lampard looked to have 10 minutes on the ball as he received it, a sign of a great player, Gerrard scored one great goal and should have tucked away a second, Ferdinand was awesome, Walcott looked raw but full of potential and Rooney was sublime. You need three world class players to win a World Cup and we have four - Rooney, Lampard, Gerrard and Ferdinand. In two years time, Walcott may be a fifth and Ivebonkedawhore may be something very special too. And remember, there is still Joe Cole to suppliment this team and Owen getting hungrier and hungrier by the game. Defoe is also developing! Please God that Foster returns fit and brilliant to offer an alternative for James! Tonight we were stunning second half and overall it was a great game of football. What a goal from Belarus! They will take points off Croatia and the Ukraine!

What did I tell you? That was the reserves! Carson's England career must be over, but Upson is a capable deputy, Terry is immense, Ferdinand is brilliant, Barry is superb, Carrick can boss midfield, Wright-Phillips is looking the business, I'vebonkedawhore doesn't need a pimp, Johnson second half was fantastic, Downing looked like an international at last. We ARE going to win the next World Cup. I hope to God Newcastle go down!

Wasn't Terry and Carson at fault for the equaliser? Again didn't watch it, just reading (bias) BBC report!

England should be challenging the worlds best as the players they have are amonst the best in the world. They have always under achieved and not sure if this has been the players or the manager, but in Capello i do think they have a natural winner and leader, so 2010 will be the best chance they have of winning the worlds ultimate trophy. If walcott keeps progressing he will be worldclass, but its still early days with him. I dont rate Ivebonkedawhore, and owen is past his best. For me if England are to win the world cup the need someone of similiar quality to rooney upfront, as Heskey will be past it in 2010. Also injuries happen and the lack of quality in the forward department might be the only thing stopping your prediction coming true.

LOL They will be saying you are me at this rate! What a selection from Zola. Today is going to be very interesting. Hull surprised Arsenal by attacking them and it looks like Zola is thinking the same way. I called Mullins and Bowyer!

You did mate, and can understand the thinking but to play 3 up against arsenal maybe like comitting suicide. But you never know, they are not usede to teams having a good go at them, so tme will tell.

Fanno, I would break down into tears in public if I live to see the day England win the World Cup! Despite what many peope say, we DO have a fantastic crop of talented players to select from, with a number of emerging talents coming to prominence over the next couple of years. I am really optomistic about our chances of lifting that most coveted of trophies, especially with the number of fast wide player that can play either left or right, Young, Bentley, Wright Phillips, Joe Cole, Walcott, Lennon or even a fit Dyer. Defensively we are sound, blessed for centre Midfielders and with either, Hargreaves, Barry, Carrick, Huddlestone holding we can cause any team major problems. If you watch a lot of youth level fotball you will know that Le Arse a several top notch English players breaking through, Wilshere and Lansbury along with Gibbs stand out. England for the cup? Stranger things have happened, think of Greece!!DJ Hammer

The history of International football is littered with teams that have stormed through qualifying only to buckle during the tournament (i.e Spain for about 50 years before last Euros). You need a bit of luck to be successful in big Championships and an injury free squad - its easier said than done. I think England have a decent chance although I remain unconvinced that Lampard and Gerrard can play together against better teams than Kazakhstan. What do you do with J.Cole if you're gonna play Gerrard on the left? The balance of midfield looks better with Cole, Lampard and Walcott with Barry sitting and holding. I do like Capello though, a winner & a proper boss at last.

It's a good problem isn't it Den, too many good players to squeeze into the team. It will be hot in South Africa - the ability to bring on top players to replace others may be crucial. Imagine Ivebonkedawhore, Young, Wright-Phillips and Cole (or Gerrard) waiting in the wings and coming on with 30 minutes or less left to go at exhausted defenders. I accept that luck is crucial, but we have had more than our fair share of bad luck - the sending off of Beckham, the disallowed Campbell goal, Gazza so nearly touching in that goal against Germany, the penaty shoot out defeats, Rooney's sending off, that disallowed goal against Portugal, Rhonadinho's fluke goal, Beckham, Rooney, Gerrard, Neville and Owen injured going into or early in tournaments - surely it is our turn to enjoy a bit of good luck?

You Forgot that South Africa is in the Southern Hemisphere, Fanno. June and July are middle of Winter down here. Average high temperature in Johannesburg is 16 C in June, 17 in July. Cape Town is only slightly warmer at 18 average for both months. So it's not going to be like that swelter in Kaiserslautern where Beckham threw up after 15 minutes from exertion in 38 degrees. Maybe ALL world cups should be held in the Southern Hemisphere. GO AUSTRALIA 2018!!!

Bloody hell, you are right, so South American teams don't have such a huge advantage!
Submitted by asheshammer on 19 October, 2008 - 10:38.
Won't THAT be great! I still think England had a great chance in Paris, but for that flukey free kick from Ronaldinho. That team was in form. But the present team has better players still, I agree with you there.

England Won't win the next world cup, fanno, Australia will. :) --- But seriously, --- it's too far away to get excited yet. Great goals against Belarus, Brown DID duck under (Crikey! what a lapse!). Perhaps the most encouraging thing was the passing. Was that really England??? Now, please tell me we are going to beat Hull CIty.

LOL I can get 11.5 to 1 off Betfair so please excuse me for not taking up your offer. But thanks for suggesting it because I've just put £20 on in a double with Newcastle to be relegated at 5.4 to 1. That's a return of over £1200 WHEN it happens. My money is where my mouth is!
Submitted by choo choo on 18 October, 2008 - 18:56.
No i dont think Newcastle will get relegated and certainly dont think Endland will win the world cup. Walcott a world star lol. One good game against an average side and he is a world beater. Heskey will never get the goals he should as a striker and could scupper his world cup chances if he moves away from Wigan.
Submitted by Barking Beck on 19 October, 2008 - 10:12.
Sorry mate but Heskey isn't about getting goals. His purpose is to hold and pass out to players that will score goals. Just because he is a striker doesn't automatically mean he should score. As long as the team do he is doing his job.
Submitted by hammersfanno1 on 18 October, 2008 - 22:57.
See Walcott's goal today? He is still a kid. If he was French or Spanish, you would be calling him awesome. Just watch him develop under Wenger and Capello! If Heskey drops off the pace, step up to the plate Carlton Cole!

LOL. Why.... do you keep yr money down the crack of your arse? Because clearly there is only one hole your talking out of there!!
Submitted by hammersfanno1 on 18 October, 2008 - 09:39.
What, don't you think Newcastle will be relegated? It's a black and white double, the Barcodes to go down and the white shirts of England to re-establish white supremacy in South Africa; only in the sense of the shirts of course, because, by then Rio will be captain, Walcott will be a World Star, Heskey will be returning a goal every two games, Ivebonkedawhore and Young will be coming on to stretch defenders in the last twenty minutes and Micah Richards will be voted best defender in the competition. We are going to win the World Cup!

Far be it for me to dampen down your enthusiasm but I think we have a way to go before we can be considered the best team in the world. While I would agree that we are moving along nicely under Capello there has been too many false dawns for me to get to carried away at the moment. What I like about Capello is that he seems to spot what's going wrong and is capable of changing things and more importantly getting the team to put this into action on the pitch. As a result our second half performances are vastly improved once Capello has observed how the opposition are set out and he then puts in any changes he thinks necessary. Our first 11 is looking pretty strong but I do worry about the back up as was proved when we had a few missing against Croatia at home. Still not convinced re James but is there any better at the moment. I agree that Heskey was great again and he does have a habit of bringing the best out of others which is just as well considering his goal record. Great goal by Gerrard but over the 2 games he stills gives the ball away far to often for someone of his "quality" Rooney, Rio and Lampard were all very good and I think Bridge did ok considering his lack of football. Walcott has got that essential pace that can be so crucial and lets hope he can become consistent with it. Barry is steady but against the very best I'm not sure. At the back 3 seem to pick themselves but think in the long term Richards will come in for Brown. Overall things are looking good but lets get to the World Cup first before we can too carried away but once there I will happily jump on the "We're going to win the World Cup" bandwagon!!

Fanno, question for you, if West Ham had played like England did last night and went on to put in a great second half performance and win, you would have been on commenting on how dire we were and how usless we are, now don't get me wrong I'm quite enjoying this new optimistic fanno, don't get me wrong your normal posts are always valid but the new 'The Glass is Half Full Fanno' needs to be seen a bit more on this site. I've been trying to work out why you are so happy, and unless it is chemically induced they only other option is you are wearing a sombrero and pancho, no one can be upset or mad in a sombrero / pancho combo, you'll be off your tits on happiness, so lets hope the mexican fanno stays around a bit longer COYI

If West Ham EVER performed like that, I would be walking on air. Imagine Rooney, Lampard, Ferdinand, Gerrard and Walcott in claret and blue! The trouble is, the only West Ham player on duty was the most ordinary performer on the night. For Ferdinand, read Luckless or Downpipe, for Rooney read Bellyache if ever fit, for Gerrard read Noble, for Lampard read Parker and for Walcott read Behrami. Sorry, but they aint in the same class are they? When was the last time you saw West Ham utterly control 45 minutes of football in the way England did last night? We couldn't even manage it against Macclesfield! If your glass is half full then fine, but not if the amber liquid is in fact urine! So, when West Ham deliver a Stella performance, I will be as happy as the next Klansman!

Wes Brown was "The most ordinary" player on show last night, he ducked under the pass that was the header that was the goal, He Ducked Under It!!! What the f8ck was that all about??? Upson wasn`t as bad as that waste of oxygen. . .
Submitted by hammersfanno1 on 17 October, 2008 - 16:57.
He didn't duck under it Pete, what are you talking about? It was a BRILLIANT goal. 26 passes wasn't it? It went right, it came inside, it went left, it came inside, it went right, it came inside, it went left, it came inside, it went right, then there was an explosion of pace and a sublime cross was delivered. We were sucked all over the pitch by a truly brilliant move. Yes Brown had been sucked in, yes Walcott was dozey, yes we missed two opportunities to win possession with tame tackles in midfield but that goal was a footballing work of art. As for Brown, he made a brilliant interception second half when the lack of pace of Upson had been exposed - remember that thumping challenge in the box, without which the player would have been through one on one with James? That waste of oxygen, as you term him, was up against two very speedy players on their left, one of whom did Walcott for pace, and chances were kept to a minimum. I'm far from Brown's biggest fan but until Richards is ready, I can't see a replacement.

Fanno how can you say that Brown didn't duck under it? \That is one of the most blatantly obvious ducks I have see! Go to Specsavers! (I allowed to say go to Specsavers because I have glasses)

Blah blah blah, He ducked under the ball thus allowing the header, it was a great bit of football but he did duck under it, watch it again, http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=pOqdOFH7_78 About 40 odd seconds in, then be honest & tell me he didn`t duck under it, That one mistake made him worse than Upson because it resulted in a goal, I`m right, you`re wrong & you F8cking hate it. . . Which makes it all the sweeter, La Le Lalala, ;)
Submitted by hammersfanno1 on 18 October, 2008 - 08:56.

Methinks you spent too much time by yourself last night; clearly with your mind and behaviour fixed upon your “new bird”. I would wager that you didn’t see our Lucas and his Aussie mates bash up the Qataris 4 – 0 in their qualifier this morning. Football at its most sublime it was. Didn't see the game as I will not subscribe to Setanta when I have Foxtel. Rip off. Just found out I could have watched it on the internet for free. Spewing. I agree with the fella below that we will be bridesmaids again when we get to South Africa if they let this unbeaten run go to their heads as of course they will. Looking forward to the weekend trip to Hull with trepidation. If we don't mark up at set pieces we'll get smashed. Rule No. 1 will have to be no free kicks to be given away in our half..........COYI

Reckon Hull's unbeaten run will go to their heads plus they've had a fortnight to wallow in it. Reckon we'll beat 'em good. Also the curse of Manager of the month for Phil Brown will come a calling. Rare to win a game immediately after receiving that accolade. COYlookingforasign.anysignIrons

Hmmmmm. Not enough exclamation marks and winky smiley faces for me Fanny. Anyhow, i am guessing this is the kind of response you would want to hear to enable further debate. Firstly, a difficult 45 mins against the mighty mighty Belarus. Can you imagine if we playing Spain or Germany of maybe Brazil on foreign turf. I think we would have been embarrased. Last nights defence would have been destroyed if up against a Torres or a Tevez of someone of that stature. They scored a very good goal against us again due to lack of defensive qualities. I mean Bridge and Brown as our full back. All credit to Upson, but to me he is not a International class CB yet for winning a world cup and neither is Terry. Therefore, if Ferdinand has a concentration issue, which he tends to have every few games, we would be up the paddle without a creek. Our midefiled looked ok last night but again against a better team i think Lampard and Gerrard would have looked average in that formation. Credit where credit is due, Walcott is improving, Young is waiting in the wings, Heskey is doing a job and SWP looks back to his old self. I just think we will have to rely on Walcot and SWP/ Young too much down the wings if we want to win anything in big games as we still dont posses the quality to open up a defense from our CM positions. Ok, we have 12 points out of 12, and you have to beat the teams in front of you, and we do have a good manager, who at last knows how to adapt formations before and during games, but lets just take it one game at a time, and see how we fare before claiming to be World beaters when we win 3-1 at Belarus. A working project as apposed to the finnish article by a long way. I wonder, we finished 10th in the league last year, and Engalnd must be about 10th in the world right now. If we go away to Hull at the weekend and play well and win 3-0 or 3-1 will you be saying WHUFC are Premisership beaters? Me thinks not. And i reckon Hull are better than Belarus within current rankings.
Submitted by hammersfanno1 on 16 October, 2008 - 16:54.
You are forgetting the 4-1 thumping of Croatia. That is like going to Liverpool and getting that result. If we did that, then I would be calling West Ham Premiership beaters! You guys are missing the key point, that this team has four great players in the ranks with at least one more coming through fast. That is enough to win a World Cup with a good manager in charge. In fact it is more than France had, and Argentina, and most of the German and Italian teams that won it. We will win the World Cup! Semifinal absolutely minimum!
Submitted by WrightyShanghai on 16 October, 2008 - 23:29.
How is Croatia like Liverpool. Croatia are ranked 6th in the world and have only just starting playing well over the last few years and therefore have been lower than this in previous years. Croatia have never won a world cup or European cup. Liverpool have been in the top 4 consistenly for the past 10 years or so, have a very good record before then and have won a few more cups more inmportantly a Euro cup in the last few years. Bad comparison.
Submitted by hammersfanno1 on 17 October, 2008 - 16:59.
Croatia had not lost a competitive match at home prior to that game. Anfield is a fortress but it aint that secure!!!
Submitted by WrightyShanghai on 18 October, 2008 - 05:01.
Fanny - i am just going by Stats like you do. Liverpool consistent 3rd or 4th. Croatia 6th after a one time good Euro cup. Ridiculous analogy to try and bring up unbeaten argument. Next you'll be saying Brown didn't duck under their goal. I saw your argument above. I think you watch a different game from everyone else. You had the audacity to try and argue the point aswell. Hilarious.
Submitted by hammersfanno1 on 18 October, 2008 - 09:06.
LOL See above. I didn't see him duck till I watched the Youtube link! What a useless c8nt! Thank God it wasn't Upson! Still, he did his best to give away a goal against Borat's Boys! As for Croatia and Liverpool, I will amend to, "It is like winning 4-1 at Villa" if you prefer. I would still be very excited if West Ham did that, especially if the result was followed up by a 5-1 win in the Cup over Millwall and a 3-1 away win over Bolton. If we were sitting after 4 games, 3 of which were away, with four wins out of four, I would be calling West Ham Premiership beaters, wouldn't you? All nonsense anyway but you were the first to try to make a country to club analogy.

Hammersfanno1, I must respectfully disagree with you. England will not win the next World Cup. The United States WILL win the next World Cup... HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA, yeah I couldn't say that with a straight face. England has a great shot at winning the Cup, good luck to your boys. The U.S. will see you there. One last thing, nevermind about the Trinidad loss; we were playing most of our young guns.
