Tact and discretion,
Tact and discretion, loyalty, savvy, not biting the hand that feeds you, using the brains you were born with, not shitting on your own door step & so on and so forth - yeah, think it or say it to the right person in the right place at the right time, even do it, but isn't what he said just the same as Ince wearing the Man U shirt in word form, if not what's the difference?

And he would be entirely in his right to suggest we are a 2nd tier club, maybe even 3rd tier, we certainly arent in the top 4 so why all the nonsense?
read his blog, he claifies his comments
Lads might be worth finding the actual interview and reading it for ourselves apparently its been taking entirely out of context, this is a reply on Sultana's website to the article "Setanta are just stirring up nonsense. He referred to us as "second zone" meaning "second tier" as we are not 1 of the big 4. He also said he did not use the phrase in a "pejorative" way i.e. there was no negative meaning.
Also, he said, word for word, "I really hope that I stay at the club because I am very happy there."
This was from an interview in a French website, not from his blog though it was copied to his blog... Setanta of course may not be stirring trouble, they may just be too thick to be able to translate French properly."

Regardless of whether he was "just being honest" or "saying what all the other players think"... you just don't say something like that. I really like Ilunga as a player - he'd become a big fan favourite with his performances but you just don't say that. Hardly a boost for morale! The club are idiots if they don't bench him next game.
He is just being honest and probably most of the squad agree with him. Under the current regime we will never be a top side, and any fan that thinks so is kidding themselves. It hurts as us fans deserve so much more, but we will never be more than a mid table team at best, selling our promising youngesters to balance the books. You cannot blame someone if they have ambition to win things in there football career to use us as a stepping stone to achieve that, as unfortunately we will never challenge for honours regularly.
True i,m afraid but you dont say those things to the media esp- at the mo.i,m not saying start a witch hunt i,m just dissapointed if the quote is accurate . Don,t buy the hand that feeds you and all that :)
Come on guys let’s not be so precious. He hasn’t had a pop at his team-mates at all. Ilunga is saying no more than what was understood with Tevez when he came to us – there was no outcry then. What he is quoted as having said is; “We discussed it with other players and believe the coach could help us solve our offensive problems if he played with us. He is immense.” Clearly Zola is not going to don the boots again so even ‘snowy on the trams’ could see that this was said tongue in cheek. Give the guy a break; he’s giving us a sight more of himself than others on the list atm. молоток
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1092001/Ilunga-West-Ham-just-second-rate-stepping-stone.html...... did,n take the snail long to latch onto it . Should he be benched for comments like that , how do you think the rest of the squad feel esp- the ones that cant even get into the side , my pholosophy is if you dont have to many nice things to say then shut the f*** up :)
Indeed! Whether we're a "second rate" club or not, he shouldn't say that. If he really meant it, then why is he on the squad? F**K I hate football today.. it's ridiculous. You have Illunga, who's been starting for us for ages...but calls us a second rate club and uses us as a stepping stone..then you have Widdowson, who's working hard to make the first team. I hate how arrogant so many footballers are today. Illunga might be a good player, but he'd be f**K-all in the premier league without us.
he can piss of if he wants. doesnt really bother me. he aint all that crash hot. personally i think neil had a better game at liverpool than he did. you guys overrate him. i mean the guy gets foward but his defending skills are average and i honestly think we can do better. i would like to see us go for joe mattock. we were linked with him during the last transfer window and i think he has the potential to become one of the best left backs in england. as for illunga, good luck trying to get picked up by a top four club. wats really annoying is that we have much better players than him and they are commited to west ham. upson and green have publicly gone out and told the club not to break up the squad. illunga should be ashamed of himself whether he means any disrespect or not
I think with it's poor phrasing that this could be construde as hugely derogatory... I do believe though, that it's because his translating skills aren't that clever... I've been onto this blog site and his english isn't so good... It's clumsy and on reflection he'll probably think twice before making such a statement again, even if it is the way he feels (or get a better f**king translator!) COYlet'snotbehastyI John Henry
To be honest, Ilunga is only saying what everyone else is thinking. He qualified his statement in the first instance by saying “without being pejorative” i.e. without wanting to offend. The reality is that a professional competition such as the PL is just that – a competition for professional footballers. The days of playing for the shirt are long since gone and people shouldn’t really come down on someone who is honest enough to say what he is thinking. In every walk of life people are going to want to want to advance themselves in their careers in whatever way they see fit; including each one of us. Everyone has their price and it would be hypocritical for anyone to argue differently. Speaking of ‘honest’ I doubt anyone could say that Ilunga has not been one of our most honest performers this season. In making his comments Ilunga has also acknowledged West Ham as having “values and a history”. For him to say that we are not one of the top four is correct. I think we as fans shouldn’t be so quick to take offence – where’s Realistic Ronnie at a time like this? Just when you need him he’s hiding again. молоток
That pisses me off so much...
So he not only admits we`re just a stepping stone for him to get to a bigger club but he also say`s our best chance of scoring goals is if Zola plays!!! http://www.setanta.com//uk/Articles/Football/2008/12/04/Prem-Ilunga-on-Z... It`s unbelievable, in one swoop he`s alienated the fans & had a pop @ his team mates!!! Next week he`s releasing a book entitled 'How To Win Friends & Influence People' lol!!! I Like Him!!! COYFootInMouthIrons
Did you see him on Monday, I think he is a frustrated keeper - five times, I counted, he deliberately handled it and when it did hit him in the face he went down like he was pole axed, tart – Fergie get yer cheque book out you can use Carlito as a make weight
What a stupid comment. He was brilliant at Liverpool. The ball hit his hand a number of times because he closed so well that, unlike Neill, he was about 3 yards away from the opponent every time Pool tried to cross from our left. It was a masterclass in how to play full back all night. Your comments betray a churlish and immature attitude. Do we hate Carlito for moving on to United? No. Ilunga has been honest. I, for one, have been wondering how on earth we secured him. He is on loan. We should count our blessings. If he moves on at the end of the season, we have still benefited from seeing him in Claret and Blue. Are Wigan fans moaning about Zaki? Get real!
LOL, I thought I heard the fans singing "Congo`s No 1, Congo`s Congo`s No 1!!!" He`d be great back up for Greeny though!!! COYLeftBackInTheGoalIrons
We just have to make sure that we sign him on a permanent basis, lets be honest the noises coming out of our club at the minute arnt exactly healthy are they?,i think we should get Zola to persuade the guy to stay and then we are all happy. To suggest that we should drop him because of this article is madness,Ilunga has been one of our most consistant players. The guy should play every game when fit, cutting your nose off dispite your face springs to mind,id prefer that we stay up and if he goes at the end of the season to a so called bigger club then so be it.We know as West ham fans of the talent that has been allowed to leave our fantastic club but players come and players go ,not one player is bigger than the club, that includes Rio and Frank,WHTID!CJ
id rather watch us in the third division then second rate left backs from congo have a go at our club.
we are west ham and we are proud!
I Agree with you all the way Surely time to give Lopez a try i believe he ia a attack minded left wing back. Who the hell does Ilunga think he is, DICKS He aint!!!
i total disgrace and even though he has been out best player this season he should be dropped
