Säid Benrahma's Algeria side have crashed out of the AFCON tournament, despite being the current holders and the favourites to win again. Their 3-1 defeat by Sebastien Haller's Ivory Coast that guaranteed their exit is the shock of the tournament so far and had NOT been anticipated.

Beware Swiss Bearing Gifts!

Remember Albian Ajeti, he who arrived at West Ham with a good pedigree from Swiss club Basel for £10.17 Million in 2019? He arrived as a goal scoring phenomena, but left with goal scoring pneumonia by transferring to Celtic at a £5.5 Million loss.

Ajeti's failure in the Premier League clearly indicates the gulf in difference between the English and Swiss Leagues, scoring for fun in the land of Toblerone and dodgy banks simply doesn't translate into anywhere near the fortitude required to survive the hustle and bustle of the most frenetic league in the World.

Having emptied Hammers' bank account completely, in addition to leaving the club with a MASSIVE repayment schedule, ex-manager Manuel Pellegrini now wants to take advantage of one of his previous 'excesses'. Nothing wrong with that, given what other ex-managers have done to their previous clubs.

Are Irons In Lingard Denial?

"Nothing to see here, now move on please" is the phrase much beloved of 'Coppers' in old black and white movies, as they attempt to move onlookers on from the scene of a crime. There have been so many column inches devoted to Jesse Lingard's departure from Manchester United that we are inclined to use the old copper's advice.

lingard is leaving old trafford in the next 12 days

If ever there was an indication that the relationship between Jesse Lingard and Manchester United has reached its breaking point, Ralf Rangnick's decision to not even include Lingard in the Manchester United squad to play Brentord was surely more than a pointer that the midfielder will be on his way out of Old Trafford, BEFORE the end of the January window.

Ronaldo 'Aiming' For Irons Return!

Probably NOT the news Hammers fans wanted to hear is that the 'preening one' himself, Christiano Ronaldo is aiming to be fit in order to play against West Ham this Saturday. Ronaldo has missed United's last few games and could be fit to face Brentford tonight, but it is doubtful he will be risked, instead he will be saved for Saturday.

On the one hand it is a pity not to have faced the Old Trafford team without Ronaldo, but on the other hand at least David Moyes WILL have Kurt Zouma and Tomas Soucek available as well as Aaron Cresswell, so on balance it is a better scenario.

Schick or Twist? Or Just Shtick?

If we had a pound for every time we have mentioned West Ham's need for a proper striker to give Mikey Antonio support and competition, we would already be a long way to being able to afford one of 'Arry's retirement Villas on the South Coast.

Perhaps Hammers fans are in denial when it comes to acquiring top players? The Haller and Anderson 'experience' having done little to enhance a feeling of bonhomie among fans AND club officials, so when news RE-EMERGED of Hammers 'interest' in Patrick Schick, it was greeted with a more than considerable scepticism.

Irons U-23's Win Again!

Hammers 1st team might be short on players who can make a difference, but the U-23's seem to have them a plenty as they brushed aside Exeter City 3-0 at St James'Park this evening. Harrison Ashby, Thierry Nevers and Alexander Okoflex all chipped in with goals.

We know it sounds like a broken record harping on about the youth players, and to his credit David Moyes DOES as much as he can to utilise them. It is a difficult situation given the pressure cooker environment of the Premier League, a player needs time on the pitch, but there is little or no time available.

last train to mancsville

Just over one month ago, Mike Nesmith one of the only two of the original Monkees left, passed away. Only Mikey Dolenz is left now, it is perhaps fitting that the 'Elephant Boy' as he was called when he was a child star, still remains. As Dolenz concluded his epitaph for 'Nes', he closed with the words he shared with the 'leader', "None of us are going to get out of this alive."
