Cant help but feel sorry for Adrian, being demoted this season to backup keeper... I really liked him, I think he was the best keeper we have had in a long time and may even still be. His only weakness is his eccentricity, which has cost us in the past but I think in equal measure also saved us in a few games from defeat. Randolph offers a much more level headed option but he has had his wobbly moments too, some saves he has missed going through his legs and his positioning sometimes in goal have been suspect. I think he is a good keeper and has pulled off some great saves for us, but not quite the reflexive shot stopper/sweeper keeper Adrian is. Apart from the odd howler, coming off his line I think mostly Adrian added another safety barrier to our defence - always ready to chase down the ball and narrow the gap or smother the ball. I wonder how long he will be content to stay on the bench?

of being a GK expected to save everything and when you let one in its a major cock up....I think both of our GK's are of the same ability and each has there faults but the one thing Adrian has over Randolph is the iconic penalty shoot out winner hurling his gloves to the side running up and smashing home the pen to send us through one of those great moments and memories that will stay with all of us..

You know what I'm not gonna sugar coat this. Adrian isn't an amazing goalkeeper. However he is by far the best keeper at the club. Unfortunately for him because hes eccentric people try make out hes worse then he is in certain areas. What I will say is Randolph is getting the same treatment the likes of Gary O'Neil and Matt Taylor used to get for us. Because he was absolutely terrible to begin with, now hes improved people make out hes much better than he is. The reailty is, he lets in more soft goals then Adrian ever did, the biggest difference being Randolph now has a much more competent defence in front of him, a team with much better work ethic then at the start of the season and the payet saga no done. Randolph has made errors or let in soft goals in nearly every game hes played. Couple of stats for you aswell, they've kept the same amount of clean sheets this season but Adrian has played 4 less games and in the worst 'team', Randolph has made more direct errors leading to goals, has made only 3 more saves then Adrian in 4 more games. Yes Adrian had a shaky start and needed a rest but why has Randolph now become undroppable when hes cost us more points this season then Adrian has. New GK is a must for the summer

To be honest I feel that the squad needs an overhaul in the Summer and that a Goalkeeper of genuine quality is high on the list of priorities as both of the current 'keepers in the squad are overall average.

Surely the priority is a world class striker ,the situation re Carroll canot continue its a joke no other club would go on this way a croked striker that spends half the season on the table ,sorry Andy not at 100 grand a week?

Personally I dont think it is, a striker is a must yes but why do we need to sign a proven world class one? We just need to do some proper scouting and look around for good goalscorers or good finishers etc... The issue we have at the moment is we have two very good strikers in Sakho and Carroll who are both crocks. We dont need to go spend 30 mill on a striker if we do our homework correctly. Try find a younger less proven striker like we did with Sakho who can hold the ball up and finish. Personally I still think the biggest mistake we made over the last few years was getting rid of Sam Baldock. Blokes quickk, good finisher, runs in behind, makes clever off the ball runs, was young. Didn't fit Sams mould of being 6ft4 so was shifted out to the wing. A proper manager at the time wouldve developed him and we would be reaping the rewards. All that being Said having a top goalkeeper will spread confidence throughout the team.

World class???? Yes, a striker is also high on the list of priorities, top of it even, but "world class"? That means a striker who'd get into any team in the world, and we're not going to sign someone in that bracket.
But to get back to the point, this thread is about goalkeepers and that is what I made the point about. I maintain that a goalkeeper genuine proven quality is extremely high on the list of priorities when it comes to summer signings.

Thing is our defence makes mistakes, but then so does every team in the league. Big difference between us and them which has gotten even worse since Randolph became number 1 is when we make mistakes our goalkeepers dont bail us out of trouble. Adrian does to an extent like when we handed Khazri a one on one vs sunderland and he saved it because hes quick off his line and has good reflexes. We need a top goalie because it helps the defence and also covers us more when they do make mistakes.

It's time to get Adrian back in the side in my opinion - defence was much better with him at the back than it has been this season with Randolph and look at the difference v Leicester on the weekend - our keeper versus their keeper, Schmeicel won them the game

Both them early goals that were conceded were more our keeper then defence Imo. Said it from the start the reason Adrian gets a hard time is because hes eccentric. Randolph makes mistake after mistake and just always seems rooted to his line. 2 potentially 3 of them goals dont happen with Adrian in goal. For all the criticism Adrian used to get about 'flapping at crosses and set pieces' we have conceded more from set pieces especially with randolph in goal then ive seen Adrian concede in 2 years.

I think you are right, Randolph was definitely to blame for the first goal against Leicester and has looked decidedly shaky for ages, but bringing Adrian back in to a team that will be devoid of three of it's best defenders is a bit of a poisoned chalice.

Maybe, but I also think could be a blessing in disguise. People won't agree but Obiang hasnt been at his best for a whilen ow, and to be perfectly honest this will go against the grain big time i said it last season and i'll say it now, Reid is massively overrated. Wouldn't be shocked to see us look more solid without him at the back.

Yep, I think it's long overdue tbh. Randolph seems to be getting worse each week. I feel like this season we've been leaking goals more than any time I can remember.

Now im not one for stats. But out of interest I used the Squaka stats comparison. Makes an interesting reading. Disproves quite a bit about Randolph. In fact the only stat Randolph came on top on was goals conceded all done on per 90 metrics. Randolph has played 7 more games yet has the same amount of clean sheets as Adrian, Adrian makes more saves, more catches, more punches, more saves per goal and better pass completion then Randolph, and has made less Errors leading to goals. Adrian is solid Randolph is championship standard.

Just kidding and interesting reading but Adrian makes stupid mistakes at times and doesn't give me the confidence that keepers should in my opinion. Agree Randolph is not a first team keeper in the PL.

Haha, ye I know stats can be misleading. Just think that an issue with some of our fans is that there blind to certain things. I speak to people who say Adrian flaps at crosses and Randolph. Everyones entitled to there opinion but when you then get them talking you realise there opinion isnt based on fact or whats happened in games its, Adrian makes alot more mistakes then randolph and is more of a liabaility based on the fact that hes eccentric and randolph isnt. Adrian isnt a great keeper but then most teams outside the top 6 dont have great keepers. What I do Know is Randolph gets that same treatment matt taylor and gary o'neil and to an extent cole used to get. They play better then awful consistently and everyone then says how good there playing when its just because how low the expectation were of them. One thing Randoloh does aswell that really annoys me is hes always standing still. Gives up on shots way to easily.
