I know a lot of people (including myself) are disillusioned with the England team. But somehow when games come along, I can't help but be interested. We seem to have a lot of offensive options, but look pretty poor defensively. Italy seem to be having a few problems currently, so that might make for a good game. I'm predicting a rare English win in Turin. Anyone else interested?

Have always loved watching England and this current team looks a lot better now some of the youngsters have lost there nerves and settled down. Tonight has 1-1 all over it but it's about time we beat them on their own cabbage patch :-) 2-1 Harry Kane and Rooney to score!!!

A D Bonds

If woy plays townshend, barklay, sterling, kane, carrick, rooney, wellbeck all from the start, then i feel that as an attacking option they could surprise a few of the bigger nations..

So friendlies are about learning stuff, so what did we learn? That Clyne is poor (actually rubbish) and Delph isn't fit to clean Nobes' boots! That Jones is NOT a midfield player. That (as we already knew) technically English players are still years behind Italians, and we need thousands more coaches from the youngest levels on up.

Leaving him out of the squad was one thing, but picking Phil Jones out of position in his place was an insult to him and West Ham, that's what there saying bully!

Agreed Mooro. Playing Jones in midfield was a pretty stupid idea anyway. And while I'm not sure Nobes is genuine international quality, England don't exactly have many who are! Some players who are very good in the PL play crap when bumped up the international level; some who are simply good at league level up their game when playing for their country... Nobes might be that type -- but we wont know if he isn't played!

Delph what's the point? Couldn't trap a bag of cement, or pass water, or run a bath let alone run midfield....My Gran could do better and she's dead!!!!

I think the majority accept we are no longer a world force or top 10 team, so expectations are now arriving at the mediocre level, which is where we will reside whilst sky run the FA.
We have a good to decent keeper and an abysmal defence. Therefore the premise is definitely on hitting teams on the break. We have an abundance of pace and will hurt many teams this way, but against top class opposition we will a) struggle to score and b) never keep a clean sheet, so a q-f place is the best possible.
Until we find 4 defenders that can defend this will always be the case.
Barkley looks a lovely player, and with the likes of Sturridge, Sterling, Ox still to come back and challenge Kane, Rooney, Walcott, Townsend, we do have some depth offensively for a change. However, whilst the back door is wide open you'll always be in trouble. Just ask Freddie Mercury.
