Just curious

I've been having an interesting conversation on another thread about Andy Carroll, which kinda got me thinking.on one side of the argument is Carroll is a one trick pony with no footwork and on the other side of the argument Andy Carroll footwork is under rated. So which is it for you guys? Discuss.

Good one red neck ,when he was with the geordies he scored some fantastic goals with his plates ,sinse then something has changed ,he was scoring on a regular basis and then of course the media took over and he was the greatest prospect in football and once that happens the big boys fans put pressure on thier owners and hes on the move to the hub caps for 35 big uns ,then the inevitable, he flops and everyone realizes maybe hes not the striker he's made out to be so his price slices ih half and he lands at Uppers ,anyway ,enough of the this is your life ,to answere your question no i dont think he's any good on the deck ,he's old school ,centre forward ,lump it up to him and he'll knock it down ,problem is you need fast agile players getting forward ,personally i dont think it will be too long before big Sam comes a knocking he is his kind of striker

Burkie 1

That's the trouble Burkie the media over hype everyone especially the English players, and have done for decades. They try to tell you how much greater these players are despite the more knowledgable fan now refusing to except the tripe coming from commentators, pundits, and journalists.

Hiya Burkie, I was at the West Brom game a couple of years ago and I think he was on loan then , he scored an absolute belter with his right foot at the BM stand end , I was in the Main Stand lower and it certainly made my day.

Didn't most of his Goals get Scored in the Championship ? .. He certainly is a one trick pony "imo" and at around £15 Million and allegedly around 85k a Week a Mega Expensive one at that albeit at least he is actually Fit and Playing for a change ! .. Just perhaps a potential Impact Sub at best for me .. Valencia and Sakho are always first choice up Front when Fit for me !

I agree Steve Valencia and sakho. I spent a lot of my football "career" at centre half and always played well against skilful a nod strong players but altho I'm not slow real pace slaughtered me at times, if you can't get close enough to players you ain't got much chance of stopping them!

If we are smart,he could be a very valuable asset...the goal against Chelsea proves my point.

Should he start games as a lone striker...no.The curve ball to that is he is probably the best option we have at the moment.

If we can pair him with Sakho or Enner when fit...i think both would be very good and work well, but the sacrifice would be playing a two man central midfield or three centre backs...which may create even more issues.

For me, he is underrated...but when we expect him to be like Sakho or Valancia he will fall short,he just brings something different to the table that doesn't really work in a counter attacking team.

This will be a slightly tricky period...but in Slaven we trust.

Carroll is very good with his feet but the problem at the moment is that he lacks match fitness. In my opinion he has been brought back into the first team too soon and should have played more games for the reserves/development squad.

Well he has had enough practice Moore 6! Ha ha. Seriously tho I can't help thinking he is only in the shop window for January. Maybe we should bench him and give him as many games in the developement squad to give him game time to gain his touch?

Have we not seen the same situation at Liverpool with Carroll.

I would like to get him fit and use him from the bench, but in hindsight, are we trying the fit a square peg into a round hole.

If we sell to a Newcastle or Sunderland, and get someone in the mold of Sakho/Valancia...would we have a plan b.

Selling and buying a younger, quicker, cheaper alternative sounds quite appealing but maybe we should be careful what we wish for.

If Sunderland want him for 8 mill I'd sell. We would save an awful lot on wages. After all a plan b is ok but we have yet to perfect our plan a yet! Bilic probably hasn't got a definate take on his best 11 yet. And if Carroll is plan b then would we/he be prepared to keep him doing nothing if things are running ok for a few games? Bilic has transformed by a long way but there is still a long way to go to improve the consistency and effectiveness of our defending whilst losing very little in attack. Rome wasn't built in a day but now let's see Slav earn his crust. It can't all be about players he buys, some of it needs to be done on the training pitch.

I think at the time Carroll is unfit to play in Bilic way, it seems slow and disoriented, maybe has not yet recovered, he should enter from the bench. anyway if sunderland offering is true, accept and take an attacker to another level and that gets injured a little less

Personally I think bilic is ramming a square peg in a round hole. At the very least he should now be dropped to the bench with sakho back, and brought in more gradually to try and give him to to adjust at least. Then go from there in january
