Striker summer signing dilemmas?

So we apparently have money to spend 'again' bear in mind we made no marquee striker signing last season so in my eyes we under spent/ spent poorly, January especially.
Everyone has us nailed on for Defoe which adds depth, but surely we can't rely on him to be out and out no1.
Then there's the sturridge links, he'll be off to Everton when lukaku leaves (who by the way I reckon the spuds will go in for him which is a shame) so count him out.
Modeste from Germany looks a prospect and links to him might actually carry some legs. Decent but again not proven.
There are a few more names I could rattle off, but if I was slaven id be on the phone to pep and ask how much he wants for iheanacho. Offer a buy back clause and watch him bang them in for us.
If we got that lad for 15/20 mill he'd be worth every penny.
Nobody is coming for Carroll so we use him when he's fit along with hopefully modeste and iheanacho throw in Defoe off the bench and we look handy.
Sak will be off which is a shame as on his day is a very talented boy.
Wish list maybe but definitely attainable unlike the icardi's and lacazettes of the world.

But at the end oft he day for all the supposed cheap signings there is undeniable proof that we were the 5th highest spenders in the league.

we need two. remember when arry bought hartson and kitson. we need a modern equivalent. we need to buy two players who can form an understanding. two with pace would be ideal. however I dont have faith in the board getting anything other than a pair of turds

those were the days Dicksy ....I expect to get abuse for this lol but I would for a season take negrado from boro offload carroll get in my mate assombalonga and take a punt on the lad from leeds. but apart from defoe I cannot see what they are going to do on the striker front this summer...of course I am assuming we stay up which after this weekend could very well be in the balance again!

Chris Woods who is in our price range as a replacement for AC. Not as good obviously but there's no such thing as a man of the match performance from the treatment table.

What is this I read that Defoe is demanding £80,000 per week for a three year contract? A 37 year old in what would be his third year on that much is taking the mick.

well that's what will be sold to us...the £80grand is what he's on at sunderland and with no fee they can cover the wages but yeah 3 years a bit much.

i thought he'd be good on a free but those wages and length of contract forget it. he's 55 years old now so any injury will put him in the morgue.

You can just see that too with our luck. he'd play a game or two then get a career ending injury and we'd be lumbered with an astronomical fee to get him off the books!

If no top goalscorer wanted to play for us last season, WITH Payet, I can't see who we are going to get with a team that has flirted with relegation this season. I don't think Defoe is great value on a 3 season deal, but as mcbikeman says, the salary is more than covered by the fee. You can think of it as £40,000/week and £6M in transfer if you like and that's not too bad, even if we just get one good season out of him. Apart from Defoe, the only thing I can think of is trying to sign a young, hungry striker from the lower leagues or Europe, and pray that our scouting is worth its pay.
