The Sunderland game

In West Ham history, this game would be a nailed on Sunderland win: we've got the best away record in the league, most goals scored and least conceded... and they have the worst record AND have one of our ex-players bound to notch one against us! How could it be anything other than a Mackems win!?
So this will be a good test to see how far Slaven Bilic has changed us. Their captain has named this a 'must win' game for them. A dangerous tactic in only the 8th game of the season, because where does he go from there if they lose? Do we keep exactly the same tactics and try to hit them on the counter early (they might then collapse), or do we go at them fast and try to take the initiative and take the wind from their sails that way?
How do people think we should approach this game, and what side would you pick (Carroll and Reid might have small knocks and might not start)?

carroll ever have a small knock!! but I will be at the match tomorrow with my best mate a sunderland fan and in the home end to!...and your right it has all the ingredients for an upset but if we keep calm in what will be a fierce opening 15mins we have the better players to punish them but the key is not to give them anything to gain encouragement from..if ginge starts because reids injured then we have to make sure he does not get caught one on one with defoe as there is only one winner in that race but if we take control of the middle of the park early enough we have the pace down the flanks to do them and goals in us which makes a refreshing change...personally I would not start lanzini in this one purely on a tactical basis IMO have Adrian jenks/cress/tomks/ginge/at the back moses obiang kouyate noble in the middle and play payet in behind sakho sicknote on the bench with lanzini I think we will be set up to win with that team COYI

I've just seen what crap he's put on the BBC site, he's telling everyone that the Black cats are shite AND STLL puts them to win....Hatrick from Sakho for me..

Well i certainly wouldn't pile forward for 20 mins, we should try and pick their pockets same as the other away games. Think I'd drop Moses for obiang

Obiang to keep it tight in earlier stages, introduce Moses from half time. I'm gona be slattered here put Moses has yet to impress me as a whole. Thought Carroll tweeted he wasn't injured

But Reid has and could start........can we keep our 100% away record? Or could we lose to the worst team in the PL? Hope this is not yet another banana skin.

Cant see anything but a win here, 3-1. 2 for Sakho and 1 for Noble (repaying his mistake last week). I have a gut feeling that Defoe is bound to score against us.

Gave himself a bug with his own cooking so he doesn't have to endure the stick that will make his ponytail curl, bless him.......

certainly leave no room for Defoe, is still a dangerous player. they will want their first win of the season and we must not grant the first few minutes as we did with Norwich. Stay focused and take home the victory COYI

He was shocking again from what I saw in the first half and I'm seriously wondering whether he's up for it?

Even though he scored & i am thankfull for that,he does appear to be the weak link this season..

Burkie 1

You're right about both full backs burkie, I think they are now expected to defend and defending isn't the best part of their game, now we have decent wide players they don't need to bomb forward which is the best part of their game, we need full backs that can do the defensive work and keep a decent position

Why didnt he try to head that chance at the end?would have surely scored if he had!Out of the signings we made he is the one who i wasnt too keen on...

Hammer65 I agree it was a headed chance but to me he saw it so late he couldn't adjust to head it. Stick to what I said for this match we needed obiang to start instead of Moses to give us some early bite and discipline. Also agree with jenks and cresswell more wing backs than defenders. Strange thing, defenders whose first function ISNT defending! These two could be on their way if they don't shape up. Early days yet but think bilic will send jenks back and buy a proper defender at the end of the season and a proper left back too with maybe making a lovely profit on cresswell
