Dec's Value Rockets

England expects is the sort of burden players have suffered from in the past when it comes to playing the actual tournaments rather than the qualifying, but this England team is exactly that, a team. Instead of a disparate set of players in cliques from their clubs, there is a genuine feeling of team spirit, and at the centre, literally, was Declan Rice.

Rice put in a superb performance, no thrills, just the 'ugly' stuff that doesn't really get noticed, but Declan's contribution drew a special mention and high praise from ex-Hammer Rio Ferdinand, and he knows a thing or two about defending. "‘I was very impressed with the patience of this team from back to front. I thought Declan Rice in front of the back four was superb in his positions, cutting out crosses, getting in great positions to cut the lines into the strikers." Rio told BBC viewers as he summed up the match.

What was really encouraging from the Hammers captain was how calm and cool he looked, even in the 'furnace' that was Wembley this afternoon. He went about his role efficiently and with no dramas or mistakes, the only criticism that could be made was that he didn't move forward more, but the security he provided for the other players enabled them to push forward, safe in the knowledge that he would be there to pick up the pieces if necessary.

The fact that fellow 'elite' professionals, and the International team's manager Gareth Southgate, have so much faith in Declan Rice goes to show how highly regarded he is at such a young age. Bobby Moore he isn't, but he holds his head high and never seems flustered just like the great man.

The timing of David Moyes signing his new contract, just before the start of the Euro's, couldn't have come at a better time, and may have taken on even more significance due to his close relationship with Rice. Having Moyes firmly in place will help fend off the top teams who will inevitably be wanting to tempt Hammers resolve for keeping their prized asset with large offers.

Retaining Moyes and Declan Rice are two of the key elements of what could be an exciting era at the London Stadium, one thing for sure is that if Dec keeps performing at the same level throughout the tournament, his value will sky rocket from the high, to the stratospheric! - Ed

Apart from 4 City players. 7 other teams were represented in the starting 11 & not 1 from Man Utd or Liverpool. Maybe that is why England look like a team. Rice is probably the most important player in the team shielding the defense. But he will go under the radar and make others look good by allowing them to go forward and grab the limelight.

Most of the top pundits will have understood that Englands's performance today was built upon the foundation of a player who is crucial to a successful England side now and well into the future.
Rice is that player and in Moyes he has a manager who is methodically shaping him and fully understands Declan's "True" market value and worth to West Ham. Moyes is selfish with only West Ham on his mind and this means that Declan won't be sold without Moyes's consent. Moyes has already laughed at the £100M tag and all of the big hitters are scared to test the resolve of this New version of West Ham..... Long may it continue. COYI

Declan Rice had a decent enough game against Croatia. Would be nice to see him score in the upcoming fixtures. Talking about scoring, two West Ham players have done so. Yarmalenko scored a superb one for Ukraine who were unlucky to throw away the points at the closing stages. The other one was the former Hammer Arnatouvic for Austria. Wonder whether Soucek gets on the score sheet for the Czech Republic against Scotland?

What I find refreshing about Big Dec, is his maturity in young years. He's always available to receive the ball.

But more importantly for the team, he's always pointing to other players for the out ball when not receiving it himself. Even before he receives it, he's looking around full 360 picture in his head. It's a joy to watch...

Funny you say that Nev because I think he could be the next " Moore". Was fortunate enough to have seen the great man over a long period of time and he is up there with Rio and Glen Johnson as comparison as the only other two players who I held in the same quality bracket. Let's hope Rice stays a bit longer than those two with us

Funnily enough, personally I think he could be the next Bobby Moore, I just didn't want to sound too jingoistic. I also had the oppportunity to see the great man himself play on numerous occasions, I even brought him a bottle of champagne once at bill stickers in wardour street, and had it sent to his table. He looked over and nodded, that's all he had to do. I had actually met him when I was a West Ham trialist, but he wouldn't have remembered me, so he was just being himself, polite and graceful.
