Encouraging images of Jarrod Bowen and Angelo Ogbonna moving freely during light training are a sight for sore eyes, David Moyes's first team squad is already so silver Rizzla light that it cannot afford the loss of either player. For a long time there have been salient observations made with regards to Hammers' training facilities, or lack of them as is the case.

First hand accounts of how bad the playing surfaces at Hammer Rush (Goose) Green training ground have done the rounds for years, the club's ridiculously huge treatment list of injured players bearing testament to the just how bad! It was the same at Chadwell Heath, the club's previous training ground, except worse if that can be imaginable, there was also the added 'bonus' of the 'road to hell' journey to get there. Many a new player ended up calling for help in order to navigate their way through what appeared to be never ending traffic.

So it should come as no surprise that the first team squad are doing their training and fitness assessments at the 5 star Pennyhill Park hotel complex instead of 'Goose Green'. The facilities are 'state of the art' and so far there have not been the usual reports of training ground injuries that have blighted the club's pre-season, year in year out.

With what looks on the face of it, until you delve, a stunning stadium with a massive capacity that is impressive especially when viewed from a distance under the lights, the club is badly let down when it comes to showing it's training facilities to potential new signings, you can't gloss over Portakabins!

The investment in training facilities might detract from the club's overall transfer budget, but better facilities would entice better players and help avoid unnecessary injuries. We accept that the club is paying for Pellegrini's profligacies and will continue to do so for another year at least, but surely the relatvely minor investment required to upgrade Goose Green is an expenditure worth sanctioning? - Ed
