West Ham majority shareholder David Sullivan has told his Claret & Hugh website about the club's intentions with regards to extending, or at least renewing, Angelo Ogbonna's contract which is due to expire in June of next year.

After having sustained an ACL injury that more likely than not will require surgery followed by a very lengthy rehab period, many thought that they had seen the Og in claret and clue for the very last time, however that is NOT the case.

In a rare moment of 'kindness', Sullivan has confirmed that the club would be offering 33 year old Ogbonna an extension to his contract for a further 12 Months. Normally Sullivan's 'interference' with player recruitment and contracts is met with annoyance and derision from Hammers fans, such decisions should be reached by the manager and newly in place head of recruitment Rob Newman is the general concencus. However in this instance praise is warranted for the much maligned owner in taking the initiative to 'do the right thing' and NOT put Angelo Ogbonna into the same bracket as others who have stolen a living from the club, they know who they are!

"We are honourable people and as a club have to do the right thing by our players and thus we will take up the option/offer him a new deal. I believe in Karma and doing the right thing is very important to me, even if it is a gamble".

Talk about "Karma Chameoleon”, what's got onto David Sullivan? Could it be the success his team is currently experiencing, or possibly the impending inbound investment from Mr Kretinsky, or maybe even that he has elevated to another plain which doesn't require an "I told you so" statement to be rolled out?

Whatever the reason, fans will welcome the decision as it is one where the outcome is of less importance than the sentiment. In the past decades PRIOR to the take over, West Ham treated players unwisely and ex-players appallingly, doing the right thing is to be admired and not scorned at, as it surely will be by certain elements.
