Not a brilliant result but a very decent point against a top 5 team who are worthy of their position.
I am Happy with a point although the Carroll injury does put a downer on it especially as he should not even have been on the pitch.
Adrian also lost his brain and got sent off but on the whole a good defensive performance against what could have so easily been a defeat. Yes Southampton were not at full strength but nor were we.
I know many would have loved to see Sakho and Valencia on from the start me included but I can sought of understand why they were not as Southampton can be very decent on the counter.

Magnificent combative hold out by our back four last night. Woeful midfield performance by Song and Amalfitano etc. Our front two couldn't get going. Cole got a few header knockdowns but all ineffective. Carroll should have been left out with his injury record. Tough on Adrian. Maybe the appeal will work in our favour but doubt it. What team will Sam field on Saturday I wonder?

I thought it was very poor from Allerdyce from the off last night.
Starting with Cole? for the love of god Im an accepting man and love everyone, but I know a peripatetic carthorse when I see one. Yet again he forces round holes into square pegs. He could have easily played Drowning behind Enid and Daffy with Song accompanied by Poyet in the middle with Armadillo as the creative hub. But no. He plonks the dozy plodder at the top.
How we got a point from that god only knows. But of course he's already crying about the "effort" they put in, and how the little diddums will be tired on Saturday.
He really is getting under my skin now. Surely a manager lifts the environment? accentuate the positive? talk about the fantastic performance of Wily E Koyate? but no, the fat grumpy faced flickwit is oozing in the oil of his loathsome toad spill.
Ready to exit the cup saturday boys? you better be......he's determined it already.

I too thought that was strange putting Cole on and even stranger taking Sakho off instead of Cole (this was before Adrian was sent off) BFS does love a big man up front but I agree Cole basically did not do an awful lot last night. At least we now have Valencia and Sakho as our main two up front again :-)

Peripatetic carthorse? Isn't that copyright Olas, early nineties? I believe originally aimed at Trevor Morley?

As Hilary said to Bill.
Right player, but it was written in "Fortunes Always Hiding" still the best Hammers fanzine of all time. God bless North Bank Norman.

My memory is going, I used to buy about three fanzines, they were cheaper and less sophisticated then, but funnier in my humble, I remember North Bank Norman, now you mention him

A point in the end was pretty good, just hope we are ok for Saturday at the Hawthorns? At least they played last night as well but we virtually only had 9 men towards the end and fatigue might tell this coming weekend. We need to score twice on Saturday and early on imo to progress in the FA Cup. It will be a close game though, looking forward to it with both Valencia and Sakho up front.

Just a thought, if ADRIAN had just pick the ball up in the box, would it not have been just a free kick?? if so why was it a sending off for handball outside the box??

It wasn't, at least not by the rules. Haven't seen the ref's report, but the red card had to be for preventing a clear goal-scoring opportunity. Handball isn't even usually a yellow card offence (it can be if the ref considers it serious unsporting behaviour), and is never a red card offence, not in and of itself.
