Ljungberg offered £3m to quit!

The Times are saying Freddie has been offered £3m to rip us his contract worth £75k per week that has 3 years to run. If this story is true, it makes West Ham a laughing stock and just highlights how wasteful Curbs and Eggy were with BG's dosh and that they are looking to tighten their belts big time even screwing loyal fans with a 5% rise in season tickets. We have sunk so low it is embarrassing! Thoughts!

First Fiorentina wanted to bid £4 mill for him, then we were prepaired to substidise his wages just to get him off our payroll, Scott Duxbury saying that Freddie's going nowhere and now we're going to give him £3 mill to quit. I think, apart from Duxbury's comments, the rest of it is a load of old BOLLOCKS printed by the tabloids, he is a Hammer and I can tell you now, that if he went we would all miss him so give the guy a break and be thankfull that he chose to play for us.

Don't think that will happen as there are clubs such as Fiorentina interested in Freddy. It just doesn't make sense to pay him off.

I have a feeling the story might have legs because it came from the Times and not the gutter press and West Ham have not denied the story!

West Ham can't deny every untrue story, there'd be no space on the website for the fans favourite articles such as Manager on Monday or Captain Log!

Sorry Del but looks like I spoke too soon. I just read the article. I didn't believe it at first as it sounded like bad business, but looks as if it's true. I believe this will end in Curbs being sacked and all ex Charlton staff with him. This is not common practice to release and pay off players after one season, if the board has decided this over Curb's head then doesn't that make his position untenable(is that spelled right). Don't think Curbs will quit he will prob wait for his payment too. Can he really be the long term choice of the board to manage this club if his signings are been released. Why keep Neill as captain if he was going to release him at a cost to us why not give the captain's armband to someone like Parker who was going to be around next season. I honestly think Curbs is going to go as well

Leaving aside the fact as to whether he is on £75k a week or less, this doesn't make sense from a financial perspective. We'd have to find the best part of £12m to get rid of him! Surely it would make more sense to pay him £75k a week and keep the interest on the rest? And this was from The Times was it? Blimey, we're gonna have 2 crap summers in a row full of crap speculation!

The offer is to give him £3m severance pay leaving him a free agent to sign for another club. If he goes, we would have blown almost £10m on him. £3m transfer fee, £3.9 wages and £3m good riddance payment. That even makes Harry Kewell cheap by comparison!

£3m pay-off is more sensible than paying off the whole contract, didn't realise that. Two points; 1) Just because it's The Times, doesn't mean it's not bullshit. I mean they weren't exactly falling over themselves to correct the fallacy that we'd 're-signed' Tevez last year were they? 2) What is it with professional footballers and money? Doesn't anyone just play for the love of the game anymore? If you paid me £75k a week, I'd retire in 6 months!

Yes £75k a week is a vast amount of money but surely we must keep players with his experience and skill. I'd rather keep Freddie who can change a game with a bit skill and get rid of Boa Morte.
