Anton Or Lucas

Its well known we will have to offload a few players to help reduce the overheads. So who would you rather leave Anton or Lucas? Personally i think Lucas' captaincy and defensive organisation is priceless for us and I expect his form to improve this season he would be the difference between panic and calm in our defence and then Anton, his form is BETTER and he represents the future and hes an acadamy boy! I wouldnt get rid of either but if antons contract is due up in a year or 2 then he needs to sign a long one! So here it is who would you ditch and why?

I can't believe your asking this question! Lucas to stay! Anton has potential, but non the less, is a lazy assed bugger, who wants a gangsta lifestyle.

No contest. Keep Anton, ditch the Koala. Anton is younger, cheaper and has room to improve. We have seen Neill's best and he won't get better. Both have suicidal tendancies in the box but I'd rather Ferdi's occasional wild tackle to Lucas' ongoing habit of sexually assaulting his opponent everytime a ball is pumped into our box! Also, he is so slow and these days you can't get away with it. Put it this way - if Bruce Forsyth (Stokes new signing) got through one-on-one with Greeno, Anton would have caught him and be going upfield before you could blink. Lucas would stop running, turn to Mark Noble and say "strewth mate, that blokes a bit quick!"

If Lucas is a koala; your a pig mate. (At least kolala's are cute!)

Your right, I am a pig...surprisingly itelligent critters the old pig you know? Here a song for the terraces next season (Galatasarays terraces hopefully); He's fat! He's round! He's slow to turn around! Lucas Neill! Lucas Neill! (Repeat to fade).

LOL Then Lucas would chin him! Even LBM couldn't miss that target!

Anton every time for me. He is still an improving player that can grow with us and is on less wages. Lucas is one of our highest earners and has i think reached as far as he is going to go and looking at last season if he is now at the top of his game then thanks, but no thanks!!!

Hmm. Difficult one this is, difficult. Of course we've got loads of Centre Backs and only two left backs assuming Faubert is playing left midfield. So maybe not so difficult after all. Lets face it. If anyone is mug ebough to pay 5 mill for FAT we could buy another Right Back and move Lucas into the middle.

Still awaiting your explanation of our win ratio with and without Anton in the team Dave. Should I relaunch the thread so you can add your reply?

We'd have swapped an inept RB made him into an inept midfielder then Dave, if we're gonna move him anywhere solely because he's no good in the position he's in, what chance we got he's gonna be any good anywhere else? Nah once he's actually moving (for a change) move him on

One more inept midfielder won't hurt will it? Can't be worse than LBM ?

Two entirely different and contrasting styles in personality. With Anton’s I would say you have to be a little bit better at delivering on the pitch if you are to have an ego that size. I exaggerate to make the point but Mourinho only got away with his massive arrogance because he was so successful. As Anton gets older and wiser (like Rio) the arrogance of youth will naturally dissipate and his game should mature and improve. He is still comparatively young, a Hammer himself and a product of our academy, I see him (all things being equal) as part of our long-term future. Lucas on the other hand is somewhat of a journeyman and mercenary, someone has said on here recently that he didn’t take the Liverpool ‘job’ because he is not good enough at that level and would have been found out and sorely wanting at Champions league level, I fully agree with that evaluation. I would like to see Neill go for various reasons but purely footballing ones for me, he is not good enough with us (he came to West Ham for the wrong reasons and now rests on his laurels, job done) It’s a no brainer for me keep the young Hammer with potential who is part of our long-term future and let go the mercenary journey man, who has no pace, lacks concentration and is continually getting caught out of position, getting ‘skinned’ or keeps giving away potential penalties and fouls to compensate for his inabilities. He earns a lot more money than Anton too

I too wouldn't want to get rid of either of them but if I was pushed on a decision I would let Lucas go. The jury is still out on Anton myself included but he is a decent player and can certainly play his part in our squad over the next few years. This is of course as long as his signs an extension to his contract otherwise sell him. Lucas like Curbs IMO needs to deliver early on this season. When he first came I thought we had got ourselves a Bloody good player with the added bonus of some balls. He did disappoint last season and I do worry that he gets caught out of position too often and also gets done for pace. Keep the pair of them as there are plenty other options to shift on as long as they can be shifted on of course!!

Neither Red Neck! There are plenty of others who should be sold off before these 2. Agree with you that Neill will have a better season this time around, he had no break last summer, came straight out of internationals to play for us and continued in that way throughout the year. He's had a break this summer and i think he will be much improved on last year. There is now way Anton should be sold, Upson and Anton should be the heart of our team this season and a for a good few more seasons on top of that. I dont think we're desperate to sell a defender so personally theres no way either of them should leave.

Some well thought out coments on here, most i have to agree with but the one that sums up the best in my opinion is basildons. After all, if it does turn out that Neil isnt up to it then we can sell in Jan. I DO believe his lack of preseason break amounts to the majority of his bad form it normally happens if a player hasnt had the break E.G world Cup. Having said that I do think Lucas has to win the fans over quite early on or they will never change their opinion
