West Ham In Crisis!

Submitted by Themanfromdelmonte on 6 August, 2008 - 17:19.
West Ham are in crisis with 10 days to go and with over 2,000 season tickets left unsold and loads of spare seats available for the Wigan match. The injury prone players signed last year (Dyer & Bellamy) are crocked again or in the case of Ljungberg given the mother of all golden handshakes. Of Curbs signings only Parker and Upson have worked out with multi-millions squandered on dud players and their astronomical wages. The jury is still out on Faubert, LBM is hopeless and Neill is a liability, Quashie and Davenport are Championship players. Our wage bill is officially the highest to turnover in the Prem and we have a manager with no tactical nous, no personality who is out of his depth at our club and who tried to turn us into Charlton with his negative style of football. We cannot sell our deadwood, because they are crap or on too much money or are injured and are in dire need of a quality; striker, a creative midfielder, a left winger and a cover left back ( please not Ben Thatcher..how desperate is that). BG isn't going to throw any more big bucks around until the outcome of Sheff U's high court action is known, we reduce the wage bill and have got our new sports science and medical team in place and Nani has had a chance to get his feet under the table. We may have to sacrifice Rob Green, Ferdinand or Ashton to raise cash and that would be taking a massive retrograde step. The place needs a massive lift to rekindle season tickets sales and to create a buzz and restore belief and I think that can only be achieved by making big name signings or sacking Curbs and replacing him with a top drawer manager. Given that money is tight the latter seems to be the most viable option! What do you guys think?

I don't think that justifies a crisis. Being honest, I was in to mids weather to get a season ticket or not, I can see everything going to pot, but hey, it's properly gonna get better, its not as bad as what everyone thinks. As for injuries, we survived with a battered squad last season, who said we can't do it this?

Couldn't agree more del i think what is happening at our club at the minute is seriously worrying. Yet again we are being lied to by the board, didnt duxbury come out less than 2 months ago saying that freddie ljungberg was a player who they were not looking to get rid of, he was a player with experiance and he had a part to play, this week they've not only relased him but they've paid him off. I just dont understand surely they could've just put him on the transfer market, even if they sold him on a free they would still be getting rid of his wages without paying out millions to buy him out, i really dont understand the logic behind paying him off, surely someone would've come along and bought him on a free??? Ben Thatcher being given a trial, if he ever plays for West Ham curbishley does not deserve the air he breathes let alone managing our club. Since curbishley has been in charge we've spent millions on players fees, millions on players wages and millions on players injury treatments. Combined with the fact the football last year was surely the most boring and dull in the premiership what is he doing here? We still have boa morte and ethrington as our only recognised left attacking players and both of them are injured as well as being useless. They've sold Richard Wright so at the minute if anything happens to Green we've either got to player jimmy walker or a 17 yr old in goal. Collins and Gabbidon are still a long way from being fit in defence, dyer and bellamy are out for at least another month minimum and if theres any truth wahtsoever in the ashton to tottenham rumours then blow me, we are a joke. Villa are strenghening like nobodys business, pompey now have a front line who could potentially be the highest scoring duo in the prem, tottenham will finish well above us, man city now have a manager who will take them up a level and as everton showed last year they are far superior to us. Where does that leave us, about 13th place in my reckoning if we're lucky.

I must admit I like you Basildon have run out of almost ALL my positive vibes but you might be a bit more doom and gloom than I am. The TEAM needs to progress and Im sure we ALL agree with that BUT We DO have a reserve keeper we bought last week. I seriously cant believe the club would have the balls to get rid of Deano, I would seriously give a monkey to a bookie on that bet! I dont see Sp*ds cut and dry as a good season at all!! They have an untried keeper at pre level with NO back up! With Berbatov gone (if) they will ONLY have BENT as a trusted prem striker! Then with inury prone Woodgate and KING it wouldnt take alot for them to STRUGGLE! Villa? Who have the bought? 2 full backs? Hardly overtaking us is it? Man city? If its true that finances have been frozen then its gona be alot harder for sparky than he first thought (both Villa and Man city only slightly finished above us despite our Horrendous injuries!) Everton? Far superior to us? I DONT THINK SO! they are currently weaker than last season and performing way above their LEVEL! So not all is as bad as you seem to think. I totally agree that we should have given Ljungberg a free transfer or even loaned him as we wouldnt have to pay ALL his wage. And the worst of the lot, the amount of lies we are being fed!

Sports Scientists albeit we've still lost Bellamy(hamstring), Dyer (Stress fracture) on the same leg, obviously that didn't work. Sorry to sound so negative but in the paper a couple of weeks ago albeit a Red Top, Curb's said we'd be signing at least 2 more players, we did a GK Lastuvka when we already have 3 on the books Green, Stech and Walker. Ben Thatcher albeit a controversial character aswell as Bellamy. Negativity? the signing of a Goalie when we're crying out for a Creative Midfielder and another left sided player does not exactly inspire confidence. We have No money basically because of a frivolous Chairman with no long term future who wanted a quick fix. Same Old West Ham, BUT B***OCKS COYI

I agree with you DEL ,it doesn't look good does it?I am not so sure it's the SHEFF UTD high court action alone that is responsible for putting the brakes on the spending.I think also it is a case of GUDMUNDSSON not having confidence in the manager.I feel he is biding his time to see what action he will take.By Christmas,or even before, based on team performances and where we are in the league will determine his moves.

Alright Del I agree with you about the Season tickets it's not the best position to be in at the moment. I don't think anyone wants Thatcher. I don't think we will sell Green, Ashton or Anton. There is still alot of time between now and the end the transfer window. I expect us to make the bulk of our transfers during this time as most clubs do. What is your definition of a Crisis by the way. You posted a link to a list of the top twenty revenue generating clubs in Europe and we were 19 on it. I think the ground will easily fill if we put a good run together and look like early contenders for a European place(easier said then done but we have a nice early few games).
Submitted by Red Neck Iron on 7 August, 2008 - 20:52.
To be honest Del Im glad there are still season tickets unsold. Im hoping it will send a message to the board. They need to sit up and take notice of us the FANS! Like we have said before 1 exciting signing will make the tickets disappear. The very least us fans deserve is the board being open to us!! To many things dont add up and people dont have much positive to cling to. At least if they tell us the truth we know what to expect! Are we in for Thatcher standard of player OR a Top international? which is it? If its a Thatcher type then be open and honest and tell us europe is a pipe dream! They could easily say its gona take more than a year or 2 to get Europe! At the moment some of what is coming out of the club seems nothing more than blatent lies designed to sell tickets!

My definition of crisis is simply a lot of fans have voted with their feet and that doesn't bode well with the new stadium in mind. BG is hardly gonna fork out for a new stadium if boxes and season tickets are not selling at UP. Also the Ljungberg pay off might mean that money earmarked for buying new players may have to be scrapped. Reoccurring injuries to squad players means we are unable to sell them and take them off our payroll. I am hoping that BG will find the money to finance one or two signings and give the place a lift but a barometer of our desperate situation is handing out a trial to Mr Thatcher! Having said that as and when we get our injured players back we are still capable of a top 8 finish.PS Not having experienced quality back up for an injury prone Bellamy is a bit of a worry too? Do you agree?
Submitted by windowblocker on 7 August, 2008 - 20:15.
I like the idea of Bellers and Ashton up front but they will prob start less than 50% of our games this season together. I agree we need back up. Sears is unproven(but has potential) Cole works hard but is not a prolific striker. We need someone else. Knowing Curbs he'll ask for someone strong, Fast and good in the air(an Emile Heskey type). Nani may give him something different maybe even somebody with a hint of flair, technique and an eye for goal. Who i knows what we will end up with. Ljungberg was touted to just about every potential club but there was no takers so they paid him off would love to know the figure. I really don't get the Thacher signing/trial(although he is ex Charlton). I though Nani acquired new players if he suggested Thacher shame on him. They have said wait till the end of the window and I will wait expectantly but if Thacher is the high point I will feel lied to for the sake of spin.

Crisis? What crisis? We have Faubert, Behrami and possibly Dyer ready willing and (almost) able to play right mid. On the left we have Ethers and LBM. So, no room for the right footed Freddie. Maybe we are also on the verge of signing the quality left midfielder that we have all been craving for, in which case Freddie is most definitely surplus to requirements. Imagine if the BG, Curbs and Nani are in the process of strengthening AND streamlining the squad? Beat that for a positive outlook suckerrrssss!!

When the Icelandic people took over Magnusson was put in charge, and told to improve the playing side of things. So he sacked Alan Pardew, who knew how to play attacking football, and replaced him with Mr.boring.Then he throws money after players with the promise of big name signings. Now everything's gone tits up,Eggy's gone, and his choice of manager is hanging on by his fingertips.I think that BG is giving Curbishley at least until christmas, because our matches up until then aren't exactly difficult. If we're not at least in the top eight by then he'll sack him and hopefully bring in Bilic. In BG we trust!

As anyone who knows me will tell you, I`m ever the optimist, with that in mind can I just say, "I Think We`re In Big Trouble!!!" It`s not the fact that we have a few season tickets left, if someone doesn`t want to renew theirs then fine, we`ll survive, I`m more concerned that we are losing the likes of Ljungberg & not the likes of quasie, it`s pathetic, if we have no money then why doesn`t the board do us all a favour & F8ck off & sell us to someone who wants the same as the fans. . . success!!! We terminate Freddies contract & get the likes of Ben Thatcher on trial whilst just up the road the likes of Spares are being linked with D Villa for 32 Squillion quid!!! AAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! COYI`mSickOfBGAlreadyIrons

Pete, don't be too hard on BG. This is all down to Eggy which is why he was outed. BG has brought in Nani and top sports scientists and medics, he has sorted out Brown and Kia and hopefully Sheff u too. Until he got to the bottom of why we had suffered so many recurring injuries he wasn't gonna throw good money after bad. It is unsustainable to have a £50m wage bill and that's why Nani is trying to get rid off the deadwood. If everyone is fit, we still have a top 8 side on paper if not then it's mid-table if we are lucky. Fans have voted with their feet because of the high cost and the quality of football played at home which apart from Man U, Liverpool, Newcastle, Villa was awful with only 7 wins recorded. All in all our away form from February wasn't too good either. In fact our overall results during the last 3 months wad relegation form and 10th flattered us because Newcastle & S***s were also shyte. Curbs is on borrowed time, which is why he is bookies favourite for the chop!
Submitted by old skool pete on 6 August, 2008 - 20:19.
Don`t be afraid Del, I`m with you, Curbs has to go, I`m trying to stay objective as far as he is concerned but so far for the 1st team he has bought a defender, got a keeper on loan & is trying out Ben Thatcher, that doesn`t exactly scream "Attacking Football" to me Del!!! Also, BG has sorted all these things out but that wont carry us through another season, we may have got Sheff U & Kia sorted, but I hope it`s not @ the expense of this seasons progression, & as for him bringing in this crack team of sports scientists, well if they are that good then why is Bellamy out already, why has Dyers rehab been put back already, why why why!!! lol, Help me Del, CHEER ME UP!!! COYNotVeryOptimisticIrons
Submitted by Themanfromdelmonte on 6 August, 2008 - 20:46.
The sports scientists have only just joined and not had a chance to work on the players. Bellamy throughout his career has always picked up hammy's a bit like Michael Owen and Dyer as fast players are more prone to these. Curbs needs shooting for not wrapping him in cotton wool. Dyer in 8 years at Newcastle averaged only a 50% playing ratio...he is the mother of all injury prone players and was a bad buy. With season ticket sales down, the board are not stupid and must have signing or two up their sleeve even if they're high profile loan players. Citeh are also strapped following the owners assets being frozen, Newcastle are looking for new owners, Arsenal have lost some great players, S***s have lost Keane and Berbatov will follow. Everton haven't signed anyone, neither have Villa apart from Sidwell so we are not alone Pete. Has that cheered you up mate?

I agree that BG has made one or 2 good decisions, the medical side of the club and maybe Nani, as for Brown and Joorabchian being sorted well he just backtraked and spent money on the problem to apease BOTH men! Not really what i would call sorting it. We can all throw money at people or give in it doesnt take a genuis. So far BG has spent more money on letting Freddie go, Getting Joorabchian onside and letting Brown get back than on the NEW PLAYERS! So if he pays Sheff UTD £10mill will that be regarded as sorted? Both the Brown and Joorasbchian deals suggest we have held our hands up to be wrong! We have since the season ended offloaded Dailly,Camara, Solano, Pantsil, Zamora, Wright and now Ljungberg. That MUST be a hefty saving! After no spending In Jan and roughly equal buys to sales last season BG needs to buy players for the team NOW not just ones that may be ok in 5 years time!
Submitted by Themanfromdelmonte on 6 August, 2008 - 20:33.
I think you are a bit harsh on BG. He had to get Kia onside before the Sheff U action. As much as I dislike Brown by all accounts he had a strong case and was a victim of an Eggy emotional decision. We at this stage do not know if we have to pay Sheff U anything but I can tell you he commissioned the finest legal team money can buy a bit like O J Simpson. Unfortunately the deadwood savings simply off-set wage rises meted out to Ashton and McCartney not to mention Ljungberg's pay off. Purchases last season came to £29.6m ( £7.6m net of sales) Ljungberg £3m, Dyer £6m, Faubert £6.1m, Bellamy £7m & Parker £7.5m, but wages for them plus LBM, Neill & Upson are estimated at around £25m a year and that's why we are screwed financially and had to off-load Ljungberg and sell Zamora and Pantsil even after promising Bobby a new contract.
Submitted by Red Neck Iron on 7 August, 2008 - 20:59.
Del you say BG had to get Joorabchian onside, am i to assume its because of the Sheff utds case? if so then its money wasted if we lose the case! Its also an admission of guilt!
Submitted by legend killer on 6 August, 2008 - 18:33.
i wouldn't say we are in crisis but we lack ALOT in certain areas that must be improved on...its all well and good curbs saying "WAIT TILL THE END OF THE TRANSFER WINDOW". But then you are paying well over the odds for sh**te players that we don't want..knowing curbs we will see camera back in the claret and blue. but apparently we must not be negative and get behind the manager..............YEAH RIGHT...be worried coz i am, i've been saying this for weeks and getting slaughtered for being negative about the players and manager...BOTTOM LINE..with the team we have and the injures to come prepare for another relegation fight..

I'm gonna punch (virtually) the first person who says "Oooh! You're all so negative, everything's great, give Curbs a chance eventhough he has had two seasons, the squads not his own he needs to sign more players, let him get the team get back to fitness eventhough they were injured because of him in the first place with his Charlton backroom". And by that I mean saying it seriously. Phippsy

"What can we do?", you ask Phippsy. I doubt it would ever happen, but now that I have gotten off the fence in respect of Curbishly, I would love to see 30 thousand fans at Upton Park chanting 'Sack Curbs' for a while, then walking out of the place; 'en masse'. I'm pretty certain it would send a fairly strong message. Our trouble is that too many are too willing to accept mediocrity at WHUFC. I despair. Bill

I was being slightly ironic on your post yesterday. If your read my earlier forums you would know that we are singing from the same hymn sheet Dutch! Actually a lot has happened in 24 hours. 1)Bellamy has shown what a twat he still is by needlessly causing trouble at Ipswich.2)He picked up another injury underlining how injury prone he is.3)S***s know we are strapped and are trying to lure Ashton away. 4) Newcastle are trying to lure Anton. 5) Curbs shows his desperation by handing out a trial to Ben Thatcher. 6) The ticket office confirmed that they have 2000 unsold season tickets and are thinking of doing a kid for a quid promotion to avoid empty seats for the Wigan match.7) We had to eat humble pie and show the footballing world that we made the mother of all mistakes by signing Ljungberg and paid through the nose to get shot of him! I will leave it there as I am about to kill myself! LOL
