“Fate puts us on different paths” is what Argentinian national Paulo Dybala said on his social media post, confirming his departure from Italian giants Juventus F.C. this summer as a free agent.

With the soon-to-be free agent available on a free transfer this upcoming summer transfer window, a whole host of clubs are lining up for his signature these days. Above all, Chelsea F.C. and West Ham United reportedly could hold a crucial advantage over their rivals Arsenal and Tottenham.

Paulo Dybala’s Highlights

The highly-skilled 28-year-old Paulo Dybala is one of Argentina’s top professional football players. His innovative play and exceptional ability on the field are usually reflected in his nicknames, such as “the new Messi,” “the new Sergio Agüero,” and “La Joya or The Jewel,” to name a few. Moreover, he’s a favorite among bettors in online sports betting.

His youth career started at Instituto de Córdoba and debuted professionally in Primera B Nacional. He made 17 goals in 40 games for the club, making him the youngest player to do so. What’s more, he was the first person to play 38 back-to-back games in a professional league and the first to get two hat-tricks in a single season.

In April 2012, the Italian Palermo had him signed for a 4-year contract. Dybala made his first two goals in a Serie A game in Italy right on his debut that year, letting his club win over Sampdoria with a score of 2–0. He attracted more attention after finishing the 2014-15 Serie A season with 13 goals and ten assists, making him among the top assist makers in the league.

Dybala’s last year with Palermo turned out to be Dybala’s breakthrough season, where he attracted the attention of several top clubs in Europe, including Serie A giants Juventus. In 2015, The Turin club successfully had him penned in a 5-year deal for a transfer fee of €32 Million with an extra €8 Million as add-ons if he met certain performance-related targets.

Dybala didn’t disappoint Juventus. He was able to rack up 300 games with over 100 goals for the club for seven seasons, not to mention his key roles in five league titles and four Coppa Italia. He also had a host of personal awards, such as when he beat Cristiano Ronaldo, his Juve team-mate, to the 2019-20 season’s Serie A MVP award.

Now, Dybala’s current contract with Juventus is bound to expire in June, but he’s planning to leave the club as a free agent. At first, they had a verbal agreement for a contract extension last year in October.

Dybala agreed with the terms of a five-year deal worth €8 Million plus a €2 Million net salary until 2026. But Juventus suddenly changed their proposal with new conditions, resulting in their talks collapsing.
Chelsea and West Ham’s huge cash advantage

After his confirmed exit from Juventus, Dybala is currently in talks with other clubs. Just like any football or soccer betting odds, there are favourites for Dybala’s signature too. Here are the current odds:

● Spurs: 4/1
● Atletico Madrid: 5/1
● Inter Milan: 5/1
● Arsenal: 6/1
● PSG: 7/1
● Barcelona: 8/1
● Chelsea 9/1
● West Ham 10/1

Despite this list, only the London clubs were reportedly offered the chance to sign Dybala on a pre-contract agreement last February. Chelsea, in particular, could hold a crucial advantage over their rivals if their former midfielder Pulisic is moved to Juventus.

Christian Pulisic, who’s valued at £60 million by the CIES Football Observatory, has been on the radar of Juventus. The club thinks highly of the player as someone who can replace Dybala in Turin.

If Pulisic replaces him in Juventus, Chelsea could offer guaranteed game time to Dybala far more easily. It’s basically killing two birds with one stone. Firstly, Dybala can take advantage of Chelsea’s league standing over their London rivals.

What might worry Hammers fans is that David Moyes’ spat with Tomas Soucek has shown no sign of abating, leaving many to question as to whether he will be with the Irons by the time the transfer window shuts!

Lastly, Dybala is seen to have some emotional attachment to Juventus. Knowing that he is not leaving the club in a dire situation, Dybala might have peace of mind to transfer to Chelsea or Wes Ham. He admitted that he did not see his departure from Juve coming so soon. In his final home match last May 16, Dybala was repeatedly mopping his eyes while bidding farewell to the thousands of Juve fans who stayed behind to send him on his way.

Final Thoughts

Until the very end, Dybala is very proud of his Juventus stint. His latest social media posts showed his feelings about his exit. He said that the seven years with 12 trophies and 115 goals for Juventus are irreplaceable.

He added that he was very proud of wearing his shirt and captain’s armband, hoping he’ll be able to show them off to his future family. He went down memory lane, extended his gratitude, and paid an emotional goodbye once more to his supporters. - LN

Lingard is playing games and trying to hold out for more and more greed. I think that he is getting past his Prime Time. A player of his calibre should have made his final decision around two weeks ago at the latest. But with West Ham what has not showed any signs of changing is the scenario, he is coming........no, no now he is not coming!!

So unless they put pen to paper all we have to do is not hold our breath!!

Now an average midfield player like Dwight McNeil from Burnley as a target. Seems like desperation times creeping in before the transfer window shuts!!
