Irons 1/3 Way Up 'Mountain'

Hammers '7 days of destiny' began with the hugely satisfying victory over Wolves, albeit against visitors who had made wholesale changes to their starting line up and according to their manager were 'tired' as a result of having played and narrowly lost against Arsenal on the preceding Thursday.

The next hurdle that needs to be overcome in order to achieve an improbable 'sporting nirvana triple header, is the visit to 'high flying' Southampton on Wednesday evening for the 5th round of the FA Cup. Along with Wolves the Saints are one of the Premier League's in form teams and are stringing together a very formidable run of results.

The third part of the triumvirate is a visit to Fortess Anfield, so often the burial sight for aspiring team's hopes and dreams. A packed house like Anfield is inspiring for the home side and intimidating for the visitors, it is NOT often teams get to play in front of just under 54,000 fans, that is unless you play for West Ham United where crowds way in excess of 60,000 are the order of the day!

Perhaps the large crowds at the Stadium in Stratford are the reason that Hammers seem to do well on their travels against the 'bigger' teams, well next Sunday's game against Liverpool in their back yard may not be in one of the biggest Stadiums, but it is definitely one of the noisiest UNLESS the crowd are quietened by a good performance from the opposition.

To many the Liverpool fixture is a 'dead rubber', with that appraisal though it is possible for teams to be able to play WITHOUT fear of failure, particularly the younger ones who have never experienced an 'Anfield Roasting'. We expect David Moyes to send out a full strength team on Wednesday in the FA Cup, as Hammers chase an unlikely trio of results.

At the end of the day, it is better to be 1/3 of the way up a mountain than to be stuck between a rock and a hard place - ED
